Several months ago, I posted about Nolan Ryan’s must-listen-to real story about his time working as the Snow Monkey Ambassador for the Parks and Wildlife Commission of Texas.
Key word: real story.
Before I tell you about the best baseball promotion of 2012, make sure you listen to this short bit of audio, which is one of the funniest segments I’ve heard on a sports talk radio station.
Again, this is really Nolan Ryan talking about a real story that really happened. Really.
Side note: moving away from the Midwest had many drawbacks, especially when it comes to sports since I don’t root for Dallas teams, but having The Ticket in my life now might just be a net gain, or at least a wash.
Which leads me into the next part of this post: the best MLB promo of 2012.
On July 1st (a Sunday nighter against Oakland), the Rangers and 1310 The Ticket are teaming up for Snow Monkey Night at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. The first 10,000 fans, 13 and under, will be receiving a free stuffed snow monkey in honor of their beloved owner and erstwhile Snow Monkey Ambassador.
Knowing the rabid following that The Ticket has here in Dallas, and the rabid following the Rangers have developed over the past three years, plus the overlap between the two, I have a feeling anyone wanting to get their stuffed snow monkey will need to arrive pretty early at the Ballpark.
Anyone want to tailgate? I’m not sure I can miss that, even if I can’t get a snow monkey of my own.

Note: I did not peruse all MLB promotions before proclaiming this one “the best.” I just can’t imagine one being better from my admittedly biased and proximity-influenced perspective. But feel free to post others in the comment section that rival this one for cleverness and fun.
