NBA Rumors: Are Steve Nash and Jason Kidd Possibilities For the Chicago Bulls?

In an article written by Comcast Sports Net’s Bulls Insider Aggrey Sam yesterday, it was reported that the Bulls are going to make a run at Jason Kidd and Steve Nash this off-season to fill in for the injured Derrick Rose.

The hope is that one of these two savvy veterans bite on the sales pitch that they would have a great chance to win a championship in Chicago, as the Bulls likely will not have the money to outbid teams for their services.

However, how realistic is it that one of these players would actually take the bait?

After all, both players are future Hall of Famers, and the idea of either one of them playing for around $2.5 million dollars just doesn’’t seem right.

So, out of the two guys, which one is more likely to play in Chicago?

When the two are compared, Steve Nash is definitely the better player at this point in his career. Kidd has lost more than just a step, especially from a scoring standpoint, while Nash still has his moments offensively.

The fact that Nash is better also means that he’’s less likely to take a big salary cut. Sure, it’’s not out of the realm of possibility that he takes a pay cut to around $5 million dollars, which is what most contending teams will be able to pay someone with the Mid-Level Exception.

However, if the Bulls match any big offer made to Omer Asik, that will cut into their Mid-Level Exception money, and they will have even less to spend.

Steve Nash seems like a good guy who wants to win, but I don’’t think any player of his caliber is going to play for that cheap.

Jason Kidd has never been a go-to scorer, but he’s always defended well, run an offense to perfection, and he can hit an open three. Even though he is a shell of his former self, he certainly would be a better option than CJ Watson as the team’’s second point guard.

Also, due to his decrease in numbers, J-Kidd playing for what the Bulls may be offering is not out of the realm of possibility.

Kidd may also look at the situation and realize he could be a good fit to play alongside Rose when he comes back. At this point, Kidd’’s offensive game is centered around knocking down the three-pointer; so when Rose returns, he could play some minutes at the shooting guard position as a spot-up shooter.

Sure, Nash can knock down the three as well as anyone, but his offensive game is predicated around always having the ball in his hands. With Kidd, that’’s no longer the case.

All in all, the facts that Kidd won’’t demand as much money as Nash, and that Kidd may fit better with Rose when he returns, leads me to believe that Jason Kidd is more likely to become a Chicago Bull this off-season.

Keep in mind that there certainly are other alternatives to these guys, as players like Kirk Hinrich and Andre Miller are also possibilities.

Regardless of who it is, the Bulls certainly have a lot of options to upgrade themselves at the point guard position for next season.
