One of the biggest story lines of this year’s NBA Playoffs has been the post-game fashion choices of many of the league’s star players.
After Miami’s Game 4 win over Oklahoma City last night, Dwyane Wade upped the ante, taking questions from the media wearing a pair of the flip-up hybrid glasses made famous by Kadeem Hardison’s ‘Dwayne Wayne’ character on the late 1980s Cosby Show spin-off A Different World.
I fully expect Russell Westbrook to show up to the Game 5 press conference wearing Dwayne Wayne’s shirt-and-sweater combination.
For what it’s worth, when I first heard a basketball announcer call the name “Dwyane Wade,” my response was, “Dwayne Wayne? The goofy guy from A Different World plays for Marquette?” Really, if you’re a global superstar whose name is phonetically similar to that of an oft forgotten sitcom character, you have a responsibility to keep that character’s memory alive. Thank you for being responsible, Dwyane Wade.
LeBron James, meanwhile, had some fun at his teammate’s expense. Here’s video of his behind-the-scenes commentary of Wade’s post-game interview:
