The Spurs and Clippers both had different routes to the second round, as the Spurs easily dispatched the Jazz in four games while the Clippers were taken to seven games by the Grizzlies. The Spurs have been off for over a week, while the Clippers won their series on Sunday.
Long periods of rest for a team are often considered to be bad, as a team can be rusty when they come back, but based on how the Thunder played after their long rest, there is no reason why the older experienced Spurs will not benefit from this long rest.
Spurs-Clippers Preview and Prediction
The Spurs come into this series after an extremely easy series against Utah, where the closest game was a Spurs win by six points. Guys like Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, and Tony Parker were able to get rest during the games and were always fresh when called upon to play.
This essentially gave the players a full two weeks of a light schedule, and they will all be ready to go against the younger Clippers team.
Consistency will be the key for the Spurs, who are the top seed in the West. The Clippers will come into this series with little preparation as they have only had one full off-day to prepare for this series. That, coupled with the fact that the Spurs have been ready for a week and get to open at home, makes it tough to predict that the Clippers will take either of the first two games.
The Clippers had a chance to close out their first round series in five games, but they let the Grizzlies hang around all the way to game seven.
It is easy for people, including myself, to say that the Clippers do not have a chance against the Spurs, but after their historic comeback in Game 1 in Memphis, anything is possible in the game of basketball.
The key for them will be production from Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan. Chris Paul is a proven scorer and the rest of the backcourt will score points, but Griffin will be going up against the ageless Tim Duncan. If Jordan averages in double digits for points, that could have a major impact on this series.
Shutting down Duncan will also be a necessity for Griffin, but that is no easy task. The inexperienced Clippers face a very tough series starting tonight in San Antonio, but they can never be counted out, just ask Memphis fans.
Series Prediction: Spurs in six
