Image: John Axford Leaves Hilarious Note After Blown Save Ends Streak

Coming into last night’s game against the Cubs, Brewers closer John Axford had successfully converted 49 straight saves. He entered the 9th inning with a 5-4 lead looking to convert consecutive save #50.

He didn’t.

The Cubs scored three in the 9th to end the streak, though Milwaukee scored two of their own to send the game to extras where they won in the 13th.

How did Axford deal with his save streak coming to an end after the game? In absolutely the most hilariously appropriate way possible.

First off, congrats to the Axfords. That’s exciting.

Secondly, kudos to Axford for being a professional athlete who doesn’t take himself too seriously and has a sense of humor and perspective. (I’m sure the Brewers winning made it easier to stomach the blown save, but Axford strikes me as a guy for whom that wouldn’t matter.)

Thirdly, let’s hope he gets another streak going. Likable guy that John Axford.

  1. dumb. too bad he is on the Brewers and not the Cubs.

  2. Humility in a person is a good thing. It’s always nice to see pro athletes that are down to Earth.
