Fantasy Baseball Daily Picks: Albert Pujols, Yovani Gallardo, AJ Burnett, Andre Ethier, and more

After a short hiatus to recharge and refocus, and to let the decision-making sample sizes get a little bit larger, I’m back with more daily picks.

I’m also back with an especially exciting tournament to participate in: a freeroll tournament with a $350 prize pool. The freeroll begins at 7:00 ET this Friday is brought to you by our friends at DraftStreet.

The top 7 finishers will all be “in the money.” I’ll be joining, so go there to compete with me this week.

Now onto today’s picks.

Fantasy Baseball Daily Picks

Guys I Like

SP Yovani Gallardo

I know, I know, his numbers don’t look good: 6.08 ERA and 1.65 WHIP. But in his three starts against teams other than the Cardinals, Gallardo has gone at least 7 innings and given up 2 or fewer runs while striking out at least six. And he’s in PETCO Wednesday, where he is 2-0 all time with 2.08 ERA. And the dollar value is terrific.

OF Andre Ethier

You know Matt Kemp is a solid start, always; but give his teammate a look today too. Ethier already has 24 RBI this season, and he’s been very good against Jhoulys Chacin in his career: 1.105 OPS in 21 plate appearances.

1B Albert Pujols

I’ve had Pujols in the section below for most of the season, and with good reason, but now that the market has corrected itself Pujols seems like a good value again…because at some point he’s going to bust out of his slump. Why not against Liam Hendriks and the woeful Twins?

Guys I Don’t Like

SP AJ Burnett

Burnett has two good start this year, one of them coming against Wednesday’s opponent St. Louis. But he is being valued as one of the six best pitchers of the day, and I don’t trust Burnett nearly enough to spend that on hm.

OF Nolan Reimold

He has been one of the breakout stars of 2012, but he’s being overvalued right now in daily games. Reimold is 7th most expensive outfielder, but he has struggled a bit against Ivan Nova (.641 OPS in 13 ABs) and lately (4 for last 21).

1B Billy Butler and Eric Hosmer

I’m not really a big fan of any hitter going up against Justin Verlander. Plan accordingly.
