NBA Trade Rumors: Orlando Magic Targeting Golden State’s Monta Ellis To Pacify Dwight Howard?

The Orlando Magic are going to do whatever they can to pacify center Dwight Howard over the next week or so, in an attempt to convince him to stay in town for the foreseeable future. That may include some moves before the NBA’s March 15 trade deadline.

One player the Magic have discussed trading for is Golden State’s Monta Ellis.

Orlando Magic Looking To Trade For Monta Ellis

The 26-year-old guard would certainly create an intriguing inside-outside paring with Howard, as he has shown the ability to be a prolific – albeit streaky – scorer.

Ellis is a guy that Howard has claimed he’d like to play with, and the two years and $22 million that remain on his contract are certainly affordable by today’s NBA standards.

The problem for Orlando would be enticing the Warriors to part with the best player on their roster, after all the Magic aren’t exactly flush with intriguing young talent. In fact, a Golden State source told The Oakland Tribune that the team wouldn’t trade Ellis unless it got an All-Star (or someone of that caliber) in return.

Other than Howard who on Orlando’s roster would be an enticing trade piece? The list of players the Magic could send includes Ryan Anderson, Jameer Nelson, Hedo Turkoglu, Glen Davis and J.J. Redick. Anderson is a free agent after the season, so he is is unlikely to have much value, while of the other players named only Redick has any real value and that comes as a situational shooter.

So while it would be great for Orlando if the team figured out a way to get Ellis to town, it would take some kind of “Magic” for it to happen. See what I did there? Eh? Eh? Oh stop shaking your head in pity, writing this stuff isn’t easy, you know?

Unless the Magic get a third team involved they won’t be getting Ellis.

How are you going to call a player getting 22 a game a streaky shooter? That’s with 6 apg and 3.5 rpg, not to mention no center to get your back. Quit hating on Monta and watch a freaking Warrior game!

Im pretty sure the writer has seen a warriors game which is why he is saying that Monta is a streaky shooter…can definately put up 20 or 30 on any given night but takes 20-25 shots to do it. 43% from the floor and 29 % from three would definately qualify him as a streaky shooter…look at his last three games 10 for 22 from the floor followed by 8 for 22 and then 10 for 16 from the floor. Not exactly a reliable scorer as he doesnt get to the line very often either, although i do think him coming to orlando makes him better as he would be a better second option, and would definately help pick up the pace and score a lot of baskets in transition…problem is orlando gets evern worse in an area they are known to struggle in…DEFENSE!!!!

Kobe, Westbrook, D. Williams all have about the same numbers as Monta. I guess they are streaky shooters too? Not saying Monta is the best in the NBA, but he is more than a streaky shooter. Dude can flat out play.
