NBA Trade Rumors: Los Angeles Lakers Hold Team Meeting; Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, Derek Fisher Speak

The Los Angeles Lakers have been in the news lately for their failures on the court and the incessant trade rumors swirling around the team.

On Thursday in Minnesota head coach Mike Brown canceled practice and instead scheduled a film review at the team hotel, then followed that by inviting the players and coaches to speak their minds.

Los Angeles Lakers Hold Team Meeting, Leaders Speak

From the sound of things, assistant coaches John Kuester and Chuck Person opened up and made their voices heard, but when players were asked if they had anything to say, no one stood up. So Brown called on his three leaders, Pau Gasol, Kobe Bryant and Derek Fisher.

They all spoke, though what they specifically said has remained behind closed doors. The Lakers went out and beat the Minnesota Timberwolves Friday night, getting a 105-102 road win. But that win came after back-to-back losses to the Detroit Pistons and the Washington Wizards.

While the Lakers have been outstanding defensively this season, they have had a serious issue transitioning to Brown’s offensive scheme. Brown runs the strong corner offense, whereas the team had been using the triangle offense under former head coach Phil Jackson. There are similarities between the systems but the overall philosophies are different.

With an aging roster desperately in need of a solid wing player to match with Kobe Bryant and a speedy point guard who fits Brown’s scheme, the Lakers have been mentioned in connection with several trades since the NBA’s lockout ended in late November.

On Friday afternoon rumors swirled that Pau Gasol had been traded. As we reported on Twitter shortly after that news broke, those rumors were completely untrue. In fact, while teams have continued to call Lakers’ general manager Mitch Kupchak inquiring about the Spanish post player, he is nowhere near actually completing a deal.

Our Lakers source is solid and he says there remains a chance that the team makes a move before the NBA trade deadline on March 15, but nothing is imminent. It is very likely that the Lake Show ends up heading into the playoffs with the roster currently on the books.

We’ll keep you updated with what we hear, but as things stand Gasol will be a Laker for the rest of the season barring any huge changes.

The Lakers can have all the talks they want but with Fish at point & World at small forward they won’t win anything… As long as they hang on to the 2 first round picks they will be doing the smart thing. NOW if they would only trade the dead wood they have now for more draft picks everything would be great. Forget this year, think tomorrow & beyond…

    • Kingl6lopez says:

Are you Crazy? and waste another year for Kobe? This team needs to win NOW!! and trading Gasol is not the answer. trade your first round picks for Ramon Sessions and Michael Beasley. That solves the problem at point and small forward.

  2. I simply figured out that my pc has this kind of trojan. I was running virtually all of the Anti-virus things my computer offers. The main one says there is nothing there and my Home windows defender says I have two trojans so I’m unsure what to do. Now i’m thinking of buying or building a new 1.. Right now I have intel. Im not sure which is best like Dell, Miscrosoft, etc . I need a video gaming computer which could also be used as a school work computer. Any kind of ideas?.
