Alex Morgan continues to dominate the soccer universe, and despite a number of other worthy soccer stories that could be featured today, none are quite as spectacular as the teaser image of Morgan in bodypaint for the upcoming Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue.
Before We Get To Alex Morgan, A Quick Word of Fabio Capello…
After my piece ran on the Chelsea/Manchester United Barclay’s Premier League fixture last Sunday and did so well, I considered doing another soccer piece.
There was an explosive story this week were England football manager and Mark Attanasio stunt double Fabio Capello abruptly resigned over the manure storm of John Terry being stripped of being team captain. Terry stands accused of going Kerry Collins with some sort of racial barb towards an opposing player during Chelsea’s match with Queen’s Park Rangers earlier in the season. The case is scheduled to go to trial, but not until after this summer’s European Championships.
The job of England’s manager will now supposedly fall to Tottenham Spurs head-man Harry Redknapp, who was coincidentally cleared of tax fraud charges this week on cue with Capello turning in his resignation. Whatever happens, England football and John Terry can go back to doing what they do best – and that’s being a major distraction. Look for an implosive quick exit from the Three Lions in Euro 2012. Much more coverage on the continuing circus to come on your favorite UK tabloid.
But, of course, there was a much better soccer story that broke on Friday. So much so that even Jeremy Lin dropping 38 points on Kobe Bryant doesn’t even mean a thing…
Alex Morgan is in the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue. In ‘bodypaint’.
Body-painted Alex Morgan To Be In SI Swimsuit Issue
MSF’s Drew Lange said it best on Facebook a few weeks back when he proclaimed himself ‘to be in love’ with three-quarters of the U.S. Women’s National Team.
Everyone wants to see Alex Morgan right now. Al Michaels probably wants to see Alex Morgan. Alex Smith wants to see Alex Morgan. Alex Jones wants to see Alex Morgan. (No wait, Alex Jones is convinced that Alex Morgan is being used by the Illuminati to distract the American government while the One World Government is being implemented. If so, well played – we took the bait.)
The pink sports bra Morgan rocked underneath her kit at the Women’s World Cup last year was good enough. Anyone want to knock on the USWNT ‘s ‘nurses outfits’ now? Not when a pink bra is visible under that white get-up.
Now Morgan is taking it up to the next level by appearing in the annual SI swimsuit piece. Whatever beach that the photo-shoot occurred is immaterial. It is nine degrees above zero where I’m writing this now, but if Alex Morgan showed up in bodypaint on the Milwaukee lakefront, it would suddenly heat up like the Fourth of July.
Morgan spoke about her experience in a sneak-peek column for SI.com, saying that she was ‘a little nervous, but ‘this opportunity doesn’t come every day.’ Alex later added ‘athletes have amazing bodies, and my teammates are a great example. They work so hard day in and day out to compete at the highest level, and their bodies reflect their hard work.’
You can catch Alex Morgan and the rest of the SI swimsuit issue when it hit’s newsstands February 14th.
Happy early Valentine’s Day.
