The NFC East champion will be decided Sunday night in New York, where the Cowboys and Giants are squaring off for the last spot in the NFC playoffs.
The first time these two teams played each other was in Week 14, and the Giants won the game 37-34. That win set them up to stay alive in the NFC East, and gave them a shot to win it this week.
The Cowboys are coming off a loss against Philadelphia in a game that turned out to be meaningless in the playoff race. The part of the game that concerned Cowboys fans was the fact that Tony Romo bruised his throwing hand after following through on the helmet of an Eagles defender. He is going to play in this game, and it will be interesting to see how much the injury affects his passes.
Dallas has been on the decline since their controversial loss in Arizona in Week 13 in which Jason Garrett iced his own kicker. They followed up that game with a loss to the Giants, and then beat the Bucs before losing to the Eagles last week. They could have wrapped up the division already, but their shortcomings are the reason why they are in a win or go home situation.
The ‘Boys are without DeMarco Murray as he is out for the season, so Felix Jones will have to step up this week. With Romo having the bruised hand, Jones will have to attack the Giants’ 22nd ranked rush defense. However, he has been nursing a hurt hamstring, so he will have to play through the pain in order to help his team.
New York Giants
The Giants are 2-5 in their last seven games, but they still find themselves with a chance to win the weak NFC East. They easily took care of the Jets last week, 29-14, which was a must-win for the Giants. If they lost, the Eagles would have a chance to win the division, so now the Giants control their own destiny.
The defense for New York could get immense help with the expected return of Osi Umenyiora, who has been out with ankle and knee problems. His return could help bring pressure on Romo, who had four touchdowns and no interceptions in the first meeting between the two teams.
After last week, it seems that the Giants are the better team. They looked sharp against the Jets, while the Romo-less Cowboys could get nothing going against the Eagles.
The only problem I have with the Giants is that they have been inconsistent all year, as evident by their four game losing streak in the middle of the season.
The Cowboys have had their mental toughness questioned by Emmitt Smith, but I feel that they will pull through on Sunday night.
Prediction: Cowboys 31 | Giants 27
