With a 13-0 record, a road game this week at Kansas City, and their remaining two games in Lambeau Field, the Green Bay Packers and their fans can taste an undefeated regular season.
But will they be able to go all the way and finish the season undefeated and back-to-back Super Bowl champions?
Green Bay’s Path To An Undefeated Season
The entire 1972 Miami Dolphins roster is sensing their perfect season may have some company soon, with a target date of February 5th, 2012. The countdown cannot be excruciating enough for Dick Anderson and the ’72 Dolphins team that holds their record so near and dear to their hearts, a badge of honor that most NFL fans would like to see at least shared. (Or broken, depending on your view of 19-0 vs the Dolphins’ 17-0.)
Aaron Rodgers and his offensive machine resemble the 2007 New England Patriots team that came within a whisker of finishing their season at 19-0, only losing in heartbreaking fashion to the New York Giants in Super Bowl 42. While the Patriots seemed to lose a little steam late in the season preserving their undefeated season, these 2011 Packers are gaining momentum and looking stronger, as evidenced by their latest 46-16 thrashing of the Oakland Raiders.
With a point spread that you would think should break the highest ever spread next week versus the offensively challenged Chiefs (actually, it’s only 14), the Packers can expect to go to 14-0 and then 15-0 with the Jay Cutler/Matte Forte-less Bears coming in to Lambeau Field.
That leaves the Detroit Lions in the way for the Packers to be 16-0 heading in to the playoffs. Despite clinching home field advantage throughout the playoffs, do not expect Mike McCarthy to pull a Jim Caldwell and pull Aaron Rodgers early in the 2nd half of a tight game. Keep in mind, the Pack have won the last 11 of 12 meetings between the two teams and have not lost to Detroit at home since 1991. With a hungry Lambeau crowd staying thirsty, expect the Packers to not only win game 16 but also possibly eliminate the Lions from the playoffs that day.
Then the fun begins for Green Bay and it’s loyal faithful.
Dream Playoff Scenario for Packers
Divisional round match up with the winner of the Giants-Falcons game.
The Packers should win this game handily after a slow start, 31-16. The Giants may be a tougher game here, but the Packers should still be able to outscore Eli Manning and company like they did before.
NFC Championship game vs. the probable 49ers-Saints winner.
Meeting the 49ers in Lambeau proves to be a closer game than expected but Aaron Rodgers leads the 2nd half rally and Green Bay advances to their second consecutive Super Bowl with a 27-14 victory.
Super Bowl XLVI vs. AFC champion New England Patriots.
The game of the century!
Brady vs. Rodgers. Belichick vs. McCarthy. Jennings vs. Welker. Gronkowski vs. Finley.
The media hype is at record levels as game day approaches. New England starts the game strong, going up 14-0 on two Tom Brady touchdown passes. Rodgers brings the Pack within 3 before halftime at 17-14 on a last minute TD pass.
The 2nd half seesaws back and forth, as Brady hooks up with Gronkowski with under 2 minutes play to take a 31-27 lead. It looks like the Packers may end up with a crushing defeat in their 19-0 quest, losing to the very team that had their undefeated dream season end with a late, 4th quarter loss.
However, not to be denied, Rodgers marches his team down the field and on a 4th and goal from the 3-yard line with just 8 seconds left, Rodgers drops back to pass, looks left, looks right, then tucks the ball and races for the goal line. With the entire state of Wisconsin experiencing chest pains and difficulty breathing, he leaps over the goal line while getting sandwiched by 2 Patriot defenders and tumbles to the end zone turf with the ball still intact, winning the game, the Super Bowl and capturing the undefeated 19-0 season. The entire Packers team rushes and mobs the end zone in celebration.

As most of the 1972 Dolphin players congratulate the Packers players in recognition of their accomplishment, Dick Anderson is taken to the ER room for the broken foot he suffers from kicking the concrete wall near the stands.
Nightmare Scenario for Packers
Originally there were 2 versions of this, with one being the Packers losing in the Super Bowl to Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos on a last minute deflected pass that replays showed actually touched no one, as Tebow credits the Good Lord for the deflection.
Version #2 and back to reality…
The nightmare scenario actually happens in the NFC Championship game vs. the New Orleans Saints in Lambeau Field. With the Packers holding a 35-30 lead with 1-1/2 minutes left, Drew Brees drives his team down the field and eventually throws a TD pass to WR Lance Moore with 2 seconds to play. Brees then runs and leaps into the arms of two Saints fans in the stands for the most vile Lambeau Leap Green Bay has ever experienced. The dream season ends at 17-1.
