Viewer’s Guide: NFL Week 15 TV Schedule and Announcers

I surely do not need to remind you what the biggest game of Week 15 is.

The Patriots and Broncos take the field together Sunday afternoon in what is being billed as Tom versus Tim but really is a battle of a great (though one-dimensional) offense against a good-to-great defense and a good-for-one-quarter offense against a can’t-stop-the-pass defense.

Joe Webb Is NOT A Starting Quarterback

Email Post Email Post

Joe Webb is not a starting quarterback in the NFL. It is that simple.

Some people may disagree with that statement, especially those that watched him this past Sunday against the Lions or saw him lead the Vikings to an improbable Monday night win over the Philadelphia Eagles last year.

Joe Webb is a fantastic athlete. A former quarterback at UAB, Webb was originally drafted by the Vikings as a wide receiver. He jumps really high. He runs really fast.

But he is not a starting quarterback.

My first thought as I post this is: I’m sorry. I realize that none of us want to relive the disgusting and despicable details Jerry Sandusky story anymore, even though we’re all going to again whenever his trial starts.

But I had to post the video below, which is apparently a trailer for a documentary soon to come called “In The Dark: The Jerry Sandusky Story” by Illview Designs. Either way, it’s very well done…if you can stomach even seeing Sandusky’s face.

After weeks of reports and rumors swirled, suggesting that Chris Paul, Dwight Howard, and others had a reasonable chance of being traded, the first blockbuster trade has been finalized:

Chris Paul has been sent to the LA Clippers, while the New Orleans Hornets will receive Chris Kaman, Eric Gordon, Al-Farouq Aminu, Minnesota’s 2012 unprotected first-round draft pick, and two 2015 second-round picks from the Clips.

So now what?

Video: Detroit Lions Fan Performs Amazing Feat of Tomfoolery

Email Post Email Post
lions-fan-bottle-stacking

Things have not gone particularly well for the Detroit Lions since their 5-0 start. They lost a winnable game to San Francisco after which their coach came totally unhinged, which has been followed by the team coming intermittently unhinged while going 3-5 over the last eight games. The playoffs still look like a good bet, but forgive Lions fans if they aren’t taking anything for granted.

Also, forgive Lions fans who pass out in the middle of games in which their team gets up big on the hapless Minnesota Vikings and Joe Webb ends up playing quarterback.

I’m a couple days late on the power rankings this week, but there is no truth to the rumor that I went on a five-day bender following IU’s win over Kentucky.  In case you forgot what happened, here’s the video.  And in case you want to see a complete moron preview the game, here’s another one.

The magic of the Internet allows us all to be armchair archaeologists. Using devices that we can hold in one hand we can access old films and audio recordings that, less than two decades ago, would have been available only in museums, library back rooms, and private basements and attics.

tebow vs bears

The legend of Tim Tebow could reach untold heights with a home win over Tom Brady’s New England Patriots.

In what could be described as a matchup between New England’s “Golden Boy” and Denver’s “Chosen One” (sorry LeBron, but Tebow is like the anti-LeBron in terms of clutch play), we will find out much about the AFC playoff picture.

Fantasy Football Week 15 Start Em, Sit Em Advice, Player Projections, and Roster Q&A

I am skipping an introduction this week because I’m too mad at fantasy football.

In my league of 14 teams, I finished right in the middle of the pack in terms of points…but because I had the third most points scored on me, I missed the playoffs…by a lot.

I finished second to last.

Lame.

Sometimes, fantasy football goes that way. I will spare you my three heart-breaking losses of the year because, quite frankly, we all have them…and nobody else cares.

For NFL Teams Looking At College Coaches, It’s Buyer Beware

Email Post Email Post
Nick-Saban

On Monday, the NFL firing began around the NFL as both the Kansas City Chiefs and Miami Dolphins decided that they needed a change at head coach.

As the NFL season digresses, there will be more firings to come and many teams will  look to the college game for potential head coaches.  It didn’t take long for the rumors to begin about the next possible head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs being from college, as Iowa’s Kirk Ferentz was mentioned as a candidate to replace Todd Haley.  Kirk Ferentz will not be the only name tossed out there but other coaches from the college game will be floated around for NFL coaching jobs as well.

Because a coach has a lot of success in college does not always mean it will translate at the next level. More often than not former college coaches do not achieve greatness – or even just goodness – in the NFL. [Read more...]

Bless your heart Reddit. This is why I visit you daily.

Upon taking an innocent stroll down the Reddit front page tonight I happened upon a headline that read “Look who I found in my mom’s old high school yearbook.” Naturally curious, though not noting at the time that the post was from r/sports, I clicked on the link, which was posted by user SuperJezus (who I have yet to confirm nor deny is Tim Tebow).

And who do I find at said link but everyone’s favorite sports curmudgeon Anthony “Tony” Kornheiser.

Could Tim Tebow Become The Next Athlete-Turned-Politician?

He’s got folk hero status across the country.

He’s winning when everybody was betting against him.

He’s won over fans outside of football.

Could Tim Tebow one day win elections like he’s winning football games now? It’s clearly way too soon to predict, before you scoff at the notion of an athlete leveraging success on the field or court to success in politics, remember: there is a precedent, and plenty of it.

Unique Christmas Gift Idea: The ‘MintyBoost Kit’ Portable USB Charger

Email Post Email Post

In what is becoming something of annual tradition around these parts, it’s that time of year again for me to present you with a most unique Christmas gift idea.

Last year, I told you all about beard hats (and gave them as Christmas gifts myself). This year, I’m all about the MintyBoost Kit portable USB chargers, which are great for iPhones, iPods, iPads, other iThings, as well as any other devices that can be plugged into a USB port.

And yes, just like last year, I stumbled upon this most excellent gift idea while clicking on the beautiful blue links (this one in particular) at Reddit.

So what is the MintyBoost Kit you may now be wondering? It’s a neat little device that a Redditor’s mother made for him as a gift and is now smartly selling. I’ll let the photos do the talking and build the impulse, then I’ll let you know where you can get your very own.
