With the majority of the Week 16 schedule occurring on Saturday this week, we are pushing our weekly start/sit live chat up one day to Saturday morning.

I don’t know who will be manning the majority of the chat, but I’ll start it off around 10:00 CT and then we’ll see if Zach can make it. If not, I’ll make sure you’re covered.

With one final game remaining, the Indianapolis Colts still control their own destiny in the Andrew Luck Derby.

Problem is, this team is peaking at absolutely the wrong time.

Infamous (Soccer) Football Hooliganism Worldwide

Email Post Email Post

Sure, we Americans like to think that our football players are pretty rough and tumble, and that our hockey players are more or less off the hook.

But compare our fans with soccer fans around the world? Please. There is no comparison. (Look, this is America, and we’re gonna call it soccer, not fooball, OK? Makes for fewer parentheticals.)

The Bottoms Line College Basketball Stock Watch

College hoops is essentially taking a few days off for Christmas, but after a number of close games and exciting finishes on Thursday night, I am almost as excited for conference play to begin as my four-year-old is for Christmas.  I say “almost” because there’s pretty much no way I will ever be as excited about anything as she is right now.

Some teams are entering league play brimming with confidence based on their recent performances while others are trying to prevent things from snowballing in the wake of a few losses.  Here’s my weekly look at college basketball’s risers and fallers. [Read more...]

All Eyes Are On Junior Quarterbacks’ Decisions To Stay In College Or Leave Early For NFL

Email Post Email Post
Andrew-Luck-Robert-Griffin

NFL general managers let out a sigh of disbelief on Thursday when Matt Barkley announced that he would remain at USC for his senior season.

It was just assumed that Barkley was going to enter April’s NFL draft as one of the top picks.  NFL Draft experts had Barkley projected as the No. 2 quarterback that would be taken in next year’s draft and well within one the top 10 picks.

Matt Barkley definitely changed the outlook of next year’s NFL draft and if other junior signal callers follow his lead, the landscape of the NFL will look a lot different for teams looking to select a quarterback. [Read more...]

Update: The late-arriving spreads are in…and now so are my picks for those games.

Three weeks ago, I was not feeling good. I was 78-87-7 on the season and so dejected that I let someone else do my picks for the week – a task I have faithfully completed here at MSF every week for the last three years.

But apparently the one week hiatus was exactly what I needed to get back on the right track.

Video: Nate Davis of D-III Heidelberg delivers one of the most remarkable putback dunks you’ll ever see

I just came across the video below, which was posted on Saturday at the official YouTube channel for Heidelberg Mens Hoops and has apparently made the rounds, seeing as how it is close to one million views.

Heidelberg University, if you don’t know (as I didn’t), is a private school in Tiffin, Ohio. It’s sports teams play in Division III. Over the weekend one of Heidelberg’s players produced a highlight that you might not expect from a D-III hoopster.

Nate Davis (no, not this one…or this one) delivered quite possibly the most remarkable putback dunk I’ve ever seen. Don’t believe me? Watch.

Indie Christmas: The 21 Best New Songs of 2011

Some time last year, our faithful leader Jerod introduced me to Indie Christmas. It was an idea some of his friends came up with to compile their favorite indie songs over the past year into a playlist and share it with their friends. Out of this idea, Jerod created his own list as well as a website and twitter page.

Indie Christmas is a great idea. As someone who listens to indie music more than anything else (other than the occasional 80s rap binge), this was something that I felt compelled to participate in as well.

As I write this, I know every single one of my in-laws is grimacing. They are all diehard Laker fans while I have always rooted for the underdog Clippers.

I know the preseason doesn’t mean anything as far as records go, but the Clippers impressed me and I think they surprised the Lakers.

The gilded cartridge

Hundreds of thousands of kids in the United States, Canada, and Europe will awake on Christmas morning to find a copy of Skyward Sword, the sixteenth game in the Legend of Zelda series. Skyward Sword, which hit stores just in time for Black Friday, is the fastest selling game in the history of the franchise.

2012—in addition to being a Summer Olympics year, a U.S. election year, and the end of the 13th cycle of the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar (be sure to order a new Mesoamerican Long Count calendar while supplies last)—marks the 25th anniversary of the North American release of Nintendo’s original Legend of Zelda game.
