Wrong. A first round bye makes tremendous sense. The regular season is a tough road and having the best records in the conference ought to count for something valuable. Its bad enough that teams with mediocre records who win a crappy division can get into the playoffs over a team with a better record who played a tougher schedule. Playing for a bye provides incentive to play hard the whole season and it is a just reward for a great 16 game record.

The value of having the best record for the regular season is to play the 7 and 8 seeds at home on the day of your choice.

Completely disagree. The NFL has the best playoff format of all pro sports leagues. Having the bye creates more incentive in the regualr season for all the playoff teams. In other sports it doesnt matter nearly as much what seed you have going into the post season the only thing is home court/ice/field which is only 1 game. You pretty much start all square 0-0 in the series.

When you get an additional week to rest and game plan for your opponent their is a huge advantage to that team with the bye. They are being rewarded for their strong regular season play which is not the case in other sports. Therefore leading to games that don't mean anything down the stretch of the regular season. Any team that is that much better in the regular season deserves this advantage.

In terms of the financial situation the NFL can calm down they make tons of money, more so then other leagues playing 66 less regular season games and 146 of baseball. Plus, the further they go into the playoffs will help make more in the long run anyways because of the fan excitement leading to more merchandise sold in the following year. All more likely to happen due to the bye.

As for the conference/division determing the seedings Im impartial to that. But if you don't assign the top 4 seeds to division winners then their is no point on having them at all, it would take away the rivarlies and in shitty divisions have many more teams eliminated earlier in the year resulting in not caring and trying as much.

Keep the NFL BYE for life its amazing!!
