Jay Cutler Dominates: Cutler vs Phil Rivers

Email Post Email Post
jay-cutler-dominates

Back when Jay Cutler was dominating in Denver, posting jaw-dropping 7-9 and 8-8 records, which ESPN analysts called “almost good,” Cutler and San Diego Chargers’ quarterback Philip Rivers had a rivalry brewing.

Both would try to bring their team to a Super Bowl and both would fail miserably, but that doesn’t mean there wasn’t a winner.  Besides, rivalries where both teams win absolutely nothing are the best kind of rivalries.

So who’s the better QB? Is it the 3-time Pro Bowler or the man who’s highest claim to fame was being parodied on a South Park episode?

Let’ find out.

Tom Crean, Indiana self-report secondary violation related to recruitment of Gary Harris; a few brief thoughts

Email Post Email Post
tom-crean-self-reports-secondary-violation-recruiting-gary-harris

Tonight, news broke that Tom Crean and my beloved Indiana basketball program have self-reported a secondary violation to the NCAA. The violation involves the recruitment of Gary Harris, one of the top recruits in the class of 2012, and involved Coach Crean having contact with Harris a day after he was allowed to. For complete details, read this article by ESPN’s Pat Forde (via Inside The Hall), or peruse the official report send to the NCAA.

I posted some thoughts over at the Peegs.com message board and decided I might as well post them here as well for those of you who are interested.

NFL Power Rankings Week 6: Hipster Drew, Tebow, and Tits Edition

I don’t really have anything to rant or tangent about this week. I’ve been sick lately, and no one really wants to hear about me not being able to breathe or getting two new prescription inhalers to use. Yes, I am a nerd. I walk around listening to hipster music wearing glasses and keep an emergency inhaler in my backpack. [Editor's note: actual picture of Sick Hipster Drew Lange below.]

Fantasy Football Week 6 Start Em Sit Em Picks and Player Projections for Hillis, Hernandez, Dez, Stevie J, and more

Is 2011 going to be the highest scoring fantasy season of all time?  All signs indicate that it could be.  Last season, seven players finished the season with more than 270 points (ESPN Standard Scoring).  After four weeks this season, a staggering 18 players were on pace to beat that mark…and nine of them were QBs.

Like I said at the beginning of the season, gone are the days of fantasy rule by the RBs.  Of those 18 players, only 5 are RBs…simply a staggering thought to anyone living in 2006 or before.

[Editor's note: Tyler posted his Bears-Lions MNF Preview yesterday, but seeing a show this is Detroit's first time hosting a Monday Night Football game since 1856 having only one preview just didn't feel like enough. Luckily, Jake Perper of BearsBacker.com was ready to step in at the last minute and offer another perspective of this highly anticipated game.]

The Chicago Bears (2-2) and the Detroit Lions (4-0) will meet for the 163rd time ever tonight at Ford Field in Detroit. The Bears lead the all-time series 93-64-5.

Tonight marks only the fifth time the Bears will meet the Lions on Monday Night Football, who will be hosting a Monday night game for the first time since 2001.

There’s been a whole lot of bad to talk about in the context of college football lately, and all of the negative talk and tone has been justified. But there is a reason why college sports remain so popular, and why so much money is at stake in big time college athletics. That reason?

Passion.

And more specifically, youthfully exuberant passion, like the kind that was on display in Blacksburg, Virginia over the weekend.

Fantasy Football Week 6 Waiver Wire Advice and Pickups: Tebow, Torain, Colt, Carter, Cassel, and more

Email Post Email Post
delone-carter-fantasy-football-week-6-waiver-wire-advice-pickups

Compared to the last couple weeks, there were relatively few impactful injuries during Week Five.  Couple that with the fact that a number of the teams on bye next week (Arizona, Denver, Kansas City, San Diego, Seattle, and Tennessee) aren’t exactly offensive juggernauts, and you might think there aren’t many worthy pickups on the waiver wire this week.

To a certain extent, you’re right.  There are very few must-adds this week, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t guys out there who can help your team the rest of the way, possibly as soon as this week. (For more Week 6 analysis, here is this week’s Start/Sit column.)

As always, the players listed here are owned in fewer than 50% of Yahoo! leagues.

The 2011 Falcons: Disappointing On The Field, In The Stands

Matt Ryan is the quarterback of the Atlanta Falcons. He entered the league a few years back with a reputation for being cash in the clutch, a reputation that led to his spectacularly annoying nickname ‘Matty Ice’. Now in his fourth season, Matty Ice is 0-2 in the playoffs and is playing some of the worst football he’s ever played to begin 2011 while leading what was supposed to be the best Atlanta team in many years.

Regardless, Falcons fans – at least four them anyway – have their struggling quarterback’s back, support that they manifest with quite possibly the lamest fan headgear in NFL history.

Here are…the Iceheads!

Tim Tebow nearly leads Broncos to victory against San Diego – should he be the starting QB in Denver? [Poll]

The so-called quarterback “controversy” in Denver has been going on since training camp. The coaches were in full support of Kyle Orton, while the fans wanted to see Jockey model Tim Tebow take the reigns.

After Tebow relieved Orton today and nearly led the Broncos to victory, it may be time for the Tebow Era to officially begin in Denver.
