College Football Upset Pick Of The Week: Why Missouri Will Beat #4 Oklahoma State

Email Post Email Post
Missouri-Tigers

With so many great games this week in college football it was hard to pick a game of the week, so instead the focus is on a game that upset written all over it.

#4 Oklahoma State is taking their fast paced offense on the road to Columbia, Missouri where the Tigers have won 10 straight at home.  This current winning streak has included victories over some of the top teams in the Big 12 and none was bigger than last season’s upset victory over #1 Oklahoma.   Many people think Oklahoma State is going to stroll into their final game undefeated, but this game has the potential to ruin the Cowboys’ perfect season.

Here is why the Missouri Tigers will upset the Oklahoma State Cowboys. [Read more...]

Jerome Harrison’s Life Saved by Voided Trade; Brain Tumor Discovered During Physical

Email Post Email Post
jerome-harrison-brain-tumor

There were few notable trades before this year’s NFL trade deadline, besides of course the trade of Carson Palmer to the Raiders. One other under the radar trade had to do with former Cleveland Brown and current Detroit Lion Jerome Harrison. The Lions needed a running back to help replace injured Jahvid Best, so they went to the Eagles for help.

The two teams agreed to swap running backs, with Harrison going to Philadelphia and Ronnie Brown going to Detroit. The trade was pending until physicals were done, but this is usually just a formality and rarely produces anything noteworthy. Most guys pass the routine physical and are on their way to their new city.

This time around was different.

Ray Rice

With six weeks in the books, you know where you stand and kind of team you have. You are either in coasting mode, maybe trying to find that one more player to complete your lineup, or you are barely breathing as you make every trade offer and waiver wire pickup you can. If you are in the latter group, take heed: there is help. There is still a way to win.

At this point in the season, we have collected enough data and stats to make more sound decisions. Then again, it’s all how you interpret those statistics. Here are a few I find interesting.

Packers-Vikings Preview and Prediction: Lawson and Lange “Ponder” the Outcome of Green Bay at Minnesota

[Editor's note: In this episode of  "Lawson and Lange", Packers fanatic Amanda Lawson and Vikings sufferer Jrue Lange discuss and predict this week's not-so-epic matchup between NFC North rivals. It's just not the same without what's-his-name...McNabb, I mean McNabb.]

*******

Amanda Lawson:

Drew,

I hope you are excited for Week 7′s game, Packers vs. Vikings, as the rivals duke it out. Of course “duke it out” could be changed to
“Packers trample over”. And I’m not saying that simply because I’m a Packers fan but am saying it because I have watched both teams this season. Any slightly educated football fan is aware that the Packers have the upper hand.

Viewer’s Guide: NFL Week 7 TV Schedule and Announcer Assignments

All you need to know about this week’s NFL schedule is that there is not one single game in which two teams with winning records will face off. That doesn’t mean there won’t be compelling action, but it does mean that there are probably very few potential playoff previews because top flight teams like we had last week when Detroit and San Francisco faced off. (Feel free to read that sentence again if still astounds you to see Detroit and San Francisco in the same sentence with the phrases “potential playoff preview” and “top flight teams”.)

What College Basketball Program Should Each Locked-Out NBA Fan Base Adopt for the 2011-12 Season?

The longer the NBA lockout drags on, the more likely it is that fans of NBA will have to find something else to occupy their time this winter and spring. The obvious alternative for NBA fans looking to satisfy their basketball jones is, of course, to watch old NBA Superstars videos on YouTube.

I highly recommend this one on Mark Price, not only because I can appreciate a white guy in short shorts who can shoot, but mainly because of the ironically named song “Black Gold” providing the background music. Other classics are Charles Barkley as “The Warrior”, Larry Bird and his “Small Town” roots, and, of course, Michael Jordan taking our breath away.

But once NBA fans are done reminiscing with these terrific videos, what then? I mean, yeah, Google Image searches for “kurt rambis mustache” and “brian cardinal” are entertaining, but it’s not replacing watching actual basketball games.

That is why NBA fans need to direct their basketball-starved attention one level down to the college game. And for those NBA fans who are not too distraught by the lockout to acquiesce, here is a guide for which college basketball team each should follow based on his or her NBA allegiance.

Well that sucked.

After going 21-11 during Weeks 3 and 4 to surge well over .500, I’ve hit the skids with my worst ever two week stretch during the 3+ years that I’ve been picking NFL games against the spread. I am 8-16-2 since the byes started in Week 5, with an especially horrific 3-9-1 last week. That’s just terrible. So I’m now 44-42-4 on the season, a 48.9% winning clip (since I conservatively count pushes as losses).

Let’s turn the page and move onto better times here in Week 7, and I’ll tell you why I’m wholly confident moving forward despite these last two terrible weeks.
