Remembering 9/11: Video of Jim Cornelison’s Spectacular National Anthem Performance on Sunday at Soldier Field

While reasonable minds could and did disagree – especially here at MSF – on how the NFL should properly honor the 10th anniversary of 9/11, I don’t think anyone anywhere could have gotten anything but chills while watching or listening to Jim Cornelison’s rendition of the National Anthem on Sunday before the Bears-Falcons game.

All Chicago sports fans and most Midwest sports fans are aware of just how incredible Cornelison’s singing of the National Anthem is. If you somehow missed this yesterday, have a listen:

I wasn’t able to watch this on TV live, but we did listen to it on the radio while driving back from Chicago on Sunday morning. It gave me chills just listening to it, and listening to the cheering in the background, and I can only imagine how people who heard it live must have felt.

Actually, scratch that. I can’t just imagine it, I know. Cornelison sang the National Anthem on Saturday before the White Sox-Indians game we attended, so I got to experience it live. Simply fantastic.

What did you think was the most well-done or stirring moment from yesterday’s 10th anniversary 9/11?

    Wow!

  2. I was there yesterday. No words can describe the emotion that was running through the crowd. On our way into the stadium there were cheers of U-S-A and plenty of 9-11/Bears gear. I cannot tell you how many times we heard the song "Proud to be an American" while tailgating. To see them roll out the giant American flag across the field during the National Anthem had many fans choked up (including myself). When Cornelison began to sing, the crowd broke out in cheers before joining in and making it one of the most memorable National Anthems I have ever heard. I don't think chills can describe what fans were feeling. Truly made me proud to be an American.
