After a brutal, injury-filled Sunday around the NFL, fantasy owners (especially depressed Jamaal Charles owners like me) will be flocking to the waiver wire (and potentially liquor stores) for some relief.

Luckily, a number of options emerged on Sunday, so here is the Week 3 list of potential pickups that are owned in less than half of Yahoo! Leagues.

Update: Jon’s Week 3 Start Em, Sit Em projections are posted. Click here!

Thanks to Julio Jones, the athletic highlight of a 35-31 Sunday Night Football thriller actually came during pregame

Last night, Falcons rookie WR Julio Jones caught just two passes for 29 yards and was not on the receiving end of any of Matt Ryan’s four touchdown passes. Yet Jones turned in easily the most impressive athletic display of the evening; it just happened to come during warm-ups.

Watching this…in awe that someone can be that much more athletic than you are.

Fantasy Football Week 2 Thanks and Shanks

Welcome to yet another new feature, which I’ve decided to call “Thanks and Shanks”. The goal of this new weekly feature, to be published every Monday morning, is to make me, Jon, Andy, Zach, Drew, and anyone else who offers fantasy football advice here at MSF even more accountable for our recommendations than we already always try to be.

Here is how it will work: I will run down some of the recommendations I gave leading into the previous Sunday that worked as well as some that didn’t; then, more importantly, the comment section will then be yours to dole out “thanks” to any MSF writer who gave you a good recommendation or to call out a “shank” of a recommendation that hurt your team that week.

St. Louis Rams v New York Giants: Monday Night Football Preview and Prediction

eli-manning

When I did my Week 2 picks way back on Tuesday of last week, here is what I said about the Rams-Giants matchup on Monday Night Football before picking the Giants to win but the Rams to cover the 4.5 point spread:

Two of the biggest Week 1 disappointments square off Monday night in a huge game for both. Going down 0-2 is a huge hurdle to overcome, especially for teams expected to be on the fringe of playoff contention anyway. Because the Giants are the more veteran team, and have the healthier set of skill position players on offense, I think they’ll win this game; but the Rams aren’t going to just roll over and make it easy. If Rex Grossman could have a good day against the Giants, then Sam Bradford sure as hell can too. He will, and this game will be a good one.

Almost a week later and with the game now just hours away, I still feel that way; however, it’s hard to have any confidence in a prediction of this matchup when so many of the key players are question marks due to injuries suffered in Week 1.

So before we get into any analysis, let’s see who is actually playing.

Fantasy Baseball Hitting Planner for Week of September 19th, 2011

Email Post Email Post
alex-avila-detroit-fantasy

Cold weather, low scores, and nagging injuries signal that the year is about to close.

As you know, the rosters get expanded in September, allowing players who were recently called up from the minors a chance to see what they can do in favor of aging veterans or inconsistent players.  If there is any advice you can take from this week’s hitting planner it is this: whatever got you to this point, don’t rely on it 100% to finish your year out.  Too many  variables can make a matchup swing one way or another with just one guy missing action so pay close attention to this week’s hitting planner.

Attention Ohio State Fans: The Buckeyes Are No Longer a Powerhouse (And That Must be Accepted)

luke-fickell

The Ohio State Buckeyes played one of their worst games in years on Saturday in Miami. The offense was nonexistent and the defense was on the field for far too long in a 24-6 defeat.

The loss plunged the Buckeyes out of the AP Top 25 for the first time in nearly seven years. They came in to the game ranked #17 after a close game against Toledo, but the loss to Miami was enough for them to drop out of the rankings.

Jamaal Charles Injury Update: Carted to locker room with knee injury

Email Post Email Post

Uh oh.

As if Kansas City’s crappy performance in Week 1 wasn’t enough to worry Chiefs fans and Jamaal Charles’ fantasy owners, now it looks like both could be without the explosive running services of Charles for a while.

Earl in today’s Chiefs-Lions game, Charles was carted off the field with an apparent knee injury. I’ll update this post when more is known, and let’s hope it’s not as serious as it looks, but according to Pro Football Talk Charles had the look of a guy who feared he had just suffered a very serious injury. Speculative yes, but not a good sign.

Be okay Jamaal.
