Video: Jamie Dukes bends over in front of female host on live TV…who does think he is? Mike Tirico?

The video below really is quite preposterous. It’s not that I’m necessarily offended by it; it’s just rather mind-boggling that someone could think this would be appropriate behavior while on the air on a major cable network.

We already have HuggingHaroldReynolds.com… Could TakingSnapsFromJamieDukes.com be next?

Video: Father drops kid to go after fly ball then catches evil eye from his wife

man-fly-ball-wife

This is one of the more hilarious videos you’re likely to see on the Interwebs today…and we can laugh at it because no one got hurt, except maybe the rather impulsive dad who made the split second decision that going after a fly ball was more important than protecting his kid.

But don’t worry…his wife lets him know how she feels about it.

The Bottoms Line Non-BCS Watch List: Gonzaga Bulldogs

Next up on the Non-BCS Watch List is a team that has become synonymous with the term “mid-major” over the course of the past 13 years.  In fact, that streak of NCAA appearances is tied for fourth, behind only Kansas, Duke,  and Michigan State.

The Greatest Fantasy Baseball Team Possible, Part 1: Hitters

Email Post Email Post
sammy sosa

Baseball, more than any other major sport, uses individual statistics to tell its story.  Records are cherished, benchmarks glorified, and the usage of modern era advanced metrics – while sometimes derided as “nerdy” –  is turned into bestselling books and critically acclaimed movies.

The tendency to evaluate baseball by adding up the sum of a team’s individual players’ performances lends itself seamlessly to fantasy leagues.

The Dodgers’ Matt Kemp has made a legitimate run at the National League Triple Crown this season.  On top of that, he has also stolen 40 bases, good for second in the N.L.  If you are looking for a fantasy stud in the outfield for next season, your list starts with Matt Kemp.

matt kemp

As impressive as Kemp’s 2011 season has been, it actually pales in comparison to some of the greatest offensive seasons by outfielders in recent memory. I decided to stroll through the virtual archives of baseballreference.com to try to put Kemp’s superb numbers into some historical context.

What outfielders in seasons past have racked up more impressive stats than Kemp has this year?

Taking this concept further, what are the best fantasy baseball seasons ever at every position?

An era ends in Chicago: Ozzie Guillen out as manager, will reportedly head to Miami

ozzie-guillen-world-series

One of the most successful managerial tenures in the history of Chicago baseball came to a close today, and as a White Sox fan who has lived and died with this team for the last 15 years I can sum up my feelings in one word: melancholy.

If you haven’t heard yet, Ozzie Guillen is out as White Sox manager, effective immediately, with all signs pointing to him becoming the next manager of the Miami (yes, Miami…like in Back to the Future 2) Marlins.

As I said on Twitter earlier tonight, it’s a rather bitter end to what was, all in all, a pretty damn sweet tenure for Oz in what will always be his baseball home: the South Side of Chicago.

chris-johnson-fantasy-football-week-4-start-em-sit-em-projections

Week Three is over, and you are probably wondering one thing: How is a guy that’s giving such great advice 0-3 in his own fantasy league?

I wish I knew…injuries have just killed me…and I’ve lost each week by an average of 1.2 points. Just heartbreaking.

Some of you are probably in the same boat as me. Even if you aren’t, it’s the time in the fantasy football season when leagues are won and lost. Now is when we have to start making the tough calls.

NFL “Suck 4 Luck” Power Rankings: Week 4

Email Post Email Post
suck-for-luck-power-rankings-week-14

We are a mere three weeks into the 2011 season for the National. FOOTBALL. LEAGUE. and already several teams have been eliminated from playoff contention. Oh sure, mathematically they are still alive, but in reality they have about as much chance of making the playoffs as I do of having Thanksgiving dinner with Ozzie Guillen and Ken Williams…together.

So while other websites (and possibly Drew here at MSF) give you complete power rankings from 1-32, I am going to do something a little different. I am simply going to concern myself with the teams whose seasons are over, as deemed by the democracy of me, and rank them in terms of their likelihood to land one of the biggest draft prizes in recent memory: quarterback Andrew Luck of Stanford.

The Unsung Heroes of Week 3 in the NFL

Email Post Email Post
Titans fans, thank your punter. (Image: George Walker IV/The Tennessean)

If you caught Sunday’s slate of NFL games, you probably saw Ryan Fitzpatrick throw for 369 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Bills to an upset win over the Patriots, and you probably saw Darren McFadden rush for 171 yards and two scores in the Raiders’ 34–24 victory over the Jets. Maybe you saw Ray Lewis and the Ravens defense hold St. Louis to a pedestrian 244 yards.

These are the players responsible for newspaper headlines and SportsCenter highlights, but there were plenty of other players whose heroic performances helped their teams to victory on Sunday, many of whom you probably didn’t notice.

Here are some of the unsung heroes from Sunday’s NFL action:

cowboys-redskins-preview-spread-pick-prediction-monday-night-football

Tonight on Monday Night Football we get an NFC East battle between undefeated Washington Redskins and the banged up Dallas Cowboys.

The biggest question all week has been whether or not Cowboys QB Tony Romo will play despite a painful rib injury. He is officially listed as questionable and has only practiced on a limited basis, but he is expected to suit up and give it a go tonight.

Will he have enough healthy weapons around him to get the Cowboys above .500?

I haven’t done a Jim Irsay Tweet of the Day in a while, mainly because it became too hard to choose which one to feature with so many awesomely ridiculous options, but an Irsay tweet passed through my feed today that I found particularly…interesting.

And now I’m curious to know: what kind of vitamins is Jim Irsay taking?

NFL Week 3 GIF: “Oh my fitted hat!”

oh-my

The rather perturbed man in the GIF below is Brian Van Gorder, the defensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons. He was ostensibly none to pleased when Corey Peters jumped offsides to give the Tampa Bay Buccaneers a game-clinching first down yesterday.

So I wonder why, in the aftermath of the mistake by his defense, he decided to scream about his fitted hat?

Have a tasty tailgating recipe that involves avocados? It might be your ticket to the Rose Bowl!

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Hass Avocado Board featuring Hass Avocados. All opinions are 100% mine.

Those of you who are friends with me on Facebook know that I have recently taken up cooking as a hobby. During my short time as an amateur chef, one of the dishes I have prepared the most is guacamole, which means that I have become quite chummy with that delicious and healthy vegetable known as the avocado.

And now, if you share the same affinity for avocados that I am developing, it just might be your ticket to this year’s Rose Bowl! In this post I’ll tell you how.

Update: The spreads for the Giants-Eagles and Cowboys-Redskins have been posted. Picks below.

If a tie feels like kissing your sister, then how should we accurately describe the feeling of picking 32 games through the first two weeks of the season and being exactly .500 at the end of it? That’s right, through 32 games I am 15-15-2. It almost like 32 smooches with my figurative and non-existent sister, which even just a figment of my imagination sounds utterly unenjoyable and awkward.
