Maclin apparently fine

Email Post Email Post

Update: The brother of Jeremy Maclin (undisclosed) told the Sporting News Monday that Jeremy is "fine," and that the Maclin camp will make an announcement about his health situation on Tuesday.  No formal annoucement has been made as of yet, but it appears that the Eagles are also leaking rumors that they expect to get Maclin back relatively soon.

Eagles asking price too high for CB

Email Post Email Post

Update: Yahoo! Sports' Michael Silver reports the Eagles have been asking for a pair of second-round picks in exchange for CB Asante Samuel. Coach Andy Reid statED Tuesday, "It's what I told him initially and what I've told you, he's on our football team. That's what he is."  Basically Reid is saying no one has made an offer the Birds are willing to accept right now, but expect more rumors as the preseason continues.

The Bottoms Line: Fun with Numbers – Assist Rate

Last time around, I focused on offensive rebounds and blocks, stats traditionally associated with big men.  Since I’m nothing if not fair, the next step in our mathematical journey focuses on an area more geared toward backcourt players: assists.  Well, at least backcourt players not named Jeremy Hazell or Scotty Hopson.

In MSF QuickCast Episode #9, I pose a simple question: what would your at-bat song be? I also add a fun twist by not only providing my own at-bat song (it shouldn’t surprise you) but also by suggesting at-bat songs for a number of MSF writers.

Since Jay Bilas joined Twitter he has easily become one of the most entertaining sports tweeters around. It’s not just that he’s clever, witty, and surprisingly hip, it’s that he’s not afraid to tweet the fun behind-the-scenes goings on that we might never otherwise get to hear.

You know, “fun behind-the-scenes goings on” like Bob Knight feeling up 70-year olds.

QuickCast: Jim Thome Hits #600 – It’s Time to Give Him the Respect and Attention He Has Earned

[Editor's note: This quickcast was originally posted on July 20th, 2011. Since then, Jim Thome has become the 8th player in MLB history to smash 600 homeruns, hitting 599 and 600 last night. I am pulling this post out of the archives because today is all about giving respect and recognition to an athlete who has embodied everything we want our athletes to be: great on the field while being humble and decent off of it.

Congrats to Jim Thome on joining one of sports' most exclusive clubs. I'll be cheering when you join another exclusive club: the Baseball Hall of Fame.]

In the third MSF QuickCast, Jerod Morris discusses the lack of attention surrounding Jim Thome’s quest for 600 home runs, as well as Thome’s Hall of Fame credentials and why they merit the Bunyanesque masher being a first ballot entrant.

For the Milwauke Brewers, just making the playoffs won’t cut it this time around

The year was 1982. I was, at the time, struggling from a personal addiction of pouring way too many quarters into the arcade for games such as Donkey Kong and Galactica. It was also the last time the Milwaukee Brewers truly had that championship caliber look.

Fast forward 29 years later – the biggest productivity wasters these days can be found on either your cell phone, iPad, XBox, PSP, or laptop. And for the first time since those glory days of Ms. PacMan and Duran Duran, the Brewers appear poised to make a run into October…make that deep into October.

Keegan Bradley Wanamaker trophy

Keegan Bradley is just as good for golf as Tiger Woods is right now.

Granted, Bradley nor anyone else on the PGA Tour has the track record that Woods has, but that’s part of what made this weekend, and golf over the past few years, great.
