2011 Big Ten Football Predictions: Division Champs, Conference Champ, Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year

College football season is getting closer and one sure sign is that everyone is giving their predictions on how the season will play out.

In the Big Ten, it is very difficult to try and predict how the season will go before a single game is ever played.   Teams that are supposed to win the conference often times do not, and players who are supposed to win individual awards find themselves not even nominated.  Trying to predict how the 2011 season will end in the Big Ten is about as probable as hitting a royal flush.

Though the odds are not stacked in my favor, I am going to try and predict how I think the Big Ten will play out this season. [Read more...]

@SI_Vault is hands down one of my favorite Twitter accounts. So before you enjoy the remarkable picture below, click here and follow Andy Gray. He regularly tweets out incredible images from Sports Illustrated’s vast vault of sports photographs, and they are always worth the click.

Now to the business at hand. Clyde “The Glyde” Drexler.

I tweeted this picture out early this morning, but I had to post it as well. As @Rev215 tweeted me: “been staring at that pic for 10 minutes.” I had the same reaction.

Check it out for yourself:

Do you like winning stuff and Las Vegas? Of course you do. (And ampm wants to help you do both)

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of ampm. All opinions are 100% mine.

I am currently sitting in my apartment by myself watching my beloved Chicago White Sox take awkward swings against Jered Weaver as we desperately try to avoid falling completely out of contention. Needless to say, hope is not high for me right now.

At least, it wasn’t.

4 Ways Chicago Blackhawks Fans Can Get Ready For The Upcoming Season

Duncan Kieth

I am happy to announce that we are only 28 days away from some Chicago Blackhawks preseason hockey. While you might not be able to actually go to as many games this season as you’d like to because of insane ticket prices (very insane I might add), there are various ways to get your house, computer, and even your mind ready for the upcoming hockey season.

Here is the link to gallery: Athletes in Their High School Yearbook

My favorite of the 28 photos has to be Barry Bonds, I mean just look at that Jheri Curl.  I think Bonds’ senior quote should have been “JUST LET YOUR SOULLLLL GLOOOOOOOO!!!!”

The Bottoms Line: Fun with Numbers – Fouls Committed/Drawn Per 40 Minutes

There are plenty of reasons to ignore fouls: they slow the game down; they provide opportunities for Ted Valentine to show up on TV; they…you know what, that last reason was as damning as it gets, so no need to pile on.

However, looking at both fouls committed and drawn per 40 minutes can provide further insight on returning players and teams.  Maybe guys haven’t put up better numbers because they can’t stay on the floor, or maybe someone adept at drawing fouls and getting to the line is on the verge of breakout.

Angry Bill Parcells is furious with Mike Pereira

There are few things in my sporting life that I enjoy more than pictures of angry coaches. I don’t know why, perhaps because my dad was a coach and I grew up around football coaches (not to mention going to IU basketball games when Coach Knight was still at the height of his powers), but images of coaches raging have always made me chuckle. (Like these, for example.)

So I’ve decided to start a new fun and easy post series here on MSF: Angry Coaches. And, quite simply, it will just be pictures of angry coaches, posted whenever I (or any of our other writers) run across one I like.

In the 10th installment of the MSF QuickCast, Jerod analyzes the quickly deteriorating tenure of Tim Tebow in Denver.

With Josh McDaniels now gone, and a new coaching staff in place that does not seem to believe in Tebow’s unique talents, it is time for the Broncos-Tebow marriage to end; and Miami might just be the perfect spot for Tebow’s next NFL stop.

Kilian Martin skateboards better than you do anything

Earlier today, MSF writer Keith Mullett posted the below video on Facebook with the description “I think this guy is better at skateboarding than I am at anything.”

I’ll take it one step further: this guy – Killian Martin – is better at skateboarding than Keith, you, or I are, combined, at anything. He’s that good. (And the filmmaker, Brett Novak, is pretty damn impressive as well.)

President Obama shakes hands Fresh Prince style

At a speech last year about how his administration would help small businesses, President Obama’s secret handshake style was caught on camera.

While it’s a little surprising to see him engage in such a stylish, choreographed, and “fly” handshake with a an old white guy in spectacles, it’s entertaining nonetheless.

Fantasy Baseball Hitting Planner for Week of August 22, 2011

Email Post Email Post
dan-uggla-braves

Late August means one thing in fantasy baseball: the playoffs are here in just a couple of weeks. For the “real” teams there are less than 40 games on the schedule, and there are going to be two different styles of play that baseball fans will see.  There will be teams who are trying to win every game they play, and then there will be teams who don’t care as much about Ws and Ls as they do seeing what they have on the roster.  How will this influence your lineups? Help is here with this week’s hitting planner.

Minor League trivia game fails on two levels

Email Post Email Post

This video, in which a contestant attempting to name sports franchises in California says, “Seattle Mariners,” has been making its rounds on the Internet. Ha, ha let’s make fun of the guy who thinks Seattle is in California.

But I’ll stick up for the guy, if only because the trivia challenge itself was equally flawed. The host of the game said that, in addition to the Oakland A’s, there are 12 major pro sports franchises in California (for 13 in all). He defined “major” as any franchise belonging to Major League Baseball, the NFL, the NBA, or the NHL. Here is a list of California teams in those four leagues:

  1. Oakland Athletics
  2. San Francisco Giants
  3. Los Angeles Dodgers
  4. Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim
  5. San Diego Padres
  6. Oakland Raiders
  7. San Francisco 49ers
  8. San Diego Chargers
  9. Sacramento Kings
  10. Golden State Warriors
  11. Los Angeles Lakers
  12. Los Angeles Clippers
  13. San Jose Sharks
  14. Los Angeles Kings
  15. Anaheim Mighty Ducks

That’s 15. Even if you don’t count the Clippers, that’s still 14.

Don’t hate the player. Hate the game.
