Eagles sign WR Smith

Email Post Email Post

Update: The Philadelphia Eagles signed WR Steve Smith, formerly of the Giants, to a one-year, $4 million contract with $2 million guaranteed.  This is a huge move, as many believed the Giants would retain Smith.  This should be interesting as the Giants doctors were convinced Smith would miss half the season, while the Eagles doctors apparently believe Smith will possibly be ready by Week 1.

Locker to get 1st team reps

Email Post Email Post

Update: The Titans plan to get rookie quarterback Jake Locker some first-team reps in each of their four preseason games. "We will probably take Matt (Hasselbeck) out sooner, and leave (Locker) in there with the first group," said coach Mike Munchak.  Locker should see limited playing time at best this season, unless there is an injury.

Fantasy football dilemma: should this outrageous (but hilarious) trade be allowed to stand?

peterson-jackson

While browsing Reddit, I came across the following screenshot with the title “Damn, someone got screwed big time.

Now, upon first glance you might think that Adrian Peterson for Steven Jackson is a pretty fair deal. You might even think the guy getting Peterson is the big winner because AD typically scores more touchdowns.

But look closer. See the “SEA” next to Peterson’s name? That’s right folks: someone finagled Steven Jackson for the other Adrian Peterson. This one. The one who carried the ball zero times last year.

Conversations with Kevin Episode 1: “The Beginning”

Kevin Bertolini (known around these parts as KVB) and I go way back. We met during our freshman year of high school, immediately developed scores of hilarious inside jokes, then promptly got separated by our teachers in almost every class we had together. We were also once told by our freshman year basketball coach to, “quit playing grab ass.” We’ve been great friends ever since.

Fortunately, we’ve never forgotten nor stopped developing our inside jokes, and our friendship – built on a firm foundation of constant laughter, random silliness, the White Sox, and yes, grab ass – endures to this day.

Negatives of Daniel Carcillo’s big mouth may outweigh the positives he brings to the Blackhawks

daniel-carcillo

It wasn’t very long after the Chicago Blackhawks officially introduced Daniel Carcillo (along with Andrew Brunette) that Carcillo started showing the “screw you” attitude he’s so well known for.

He did not delay attacking rival Vancouver, and not just the team but specific players, naming Max Lapierre to be on the top of his list. Carcillo has a long history of trash-talking that goes along with his dirty play.

Many people scoff at the mention of the WWE. It is seen as a juvenile form of entertainment that is inappropriate for viewing. Some aspects of the WWE may fit this explanation, but it is not all that different from other sports.

Should universities start selling beer at college sporting events?

Email Post Email Post
Beer-at-football-game

In this new era of college athletics, universities are beginning to realize that they need to do anything they can to make money.

A recent report by USA Today highlighted the fact that more universities are looking for extra ways to make money, and that includes schools selling beer inside their stadiums. The way college sports have been reformed recently (TV contracts, conference networks, etc.) has created a free-for-all to earn revenue anyway they see fit.

With the disparity of money between teams in BCS conferences and non-BCS conferences, selling beer is a way for smaller schools to supplement income that they would normally not receive.

Beginning Baseball: The Twins and Summer Tubing

Email Post Email Post
http://www.midwestsportsfans.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/Summer-008.jpg

It’s been awhile since I have commented on the Twins. Everyone and their uncle have suddenly become obsessed with football now that the lockout has ended. You might say, “Well so have you Amanda. You can’t hide from your tweets.” True I can’t; but just because I am constantly giving Packer updates left and right doesn’t mean I have tuned out baseball.

But what do you want me to say? Everything that could be said doesn’t need to be. I have lost the one trash talk topic I had all season after this horrendous series against the White Sox. I would just be preaching my frustration to the choir if I were to open up.

Some fans might call this season a train wreck. I don’t agree. There hasn’t been an explosion once during the Twins season that is close to a train wreck. I guess you could say the 20-6 loss against the Rangers is as close to combustion as the Twins will get.

So how would I describe the Twins season? Good question. I thought about the Twins a lot this weekend. I was at my cousins’ house on a lake in Wisconsin for a family event called Cousins Weekend. Maybe it was the random talk about the Brewers’ success or the reminder of Uncle Mike’s unfortunate infatuation with the White Sox that made me think about the Twins.

Either way, I have come to the conclusion that the Twins season is much like a tube ride behind the boat. Sound confusing? Well let me break it down for you.

RB Jackson set to backup Hillis

Email Post Email Post

Update: Recent acquisition Brandon Jackson is running as the Browns' No. 2 tailback in training camp, ahead of rookie Montario Hardesty.  Peyton Hillis is clearly the go to guy in the Browns backfield, but it was expected that Hardesty would win the backup job.  That doesn't appear to be the case at this point, as Hardesty has spent more time on Twitter, then he has making an impact on the field.

Choice may get cut

Email Post Email Post

Update: ESPN's Tim MacMahon believes that Cowboys running back Tashard Choice (calf) is in serious danger of losing his roster spot to Lonyae Miller. Choice is out 2-4 weeks, but MacMahon says his job would have been in jeopardy even if healthy.  After releasing Marion Barber in the offseason, this would be a major move for the Cowboys.
