I can’t stand Adam Sandler.
He was once a funny comedian but is the most overrated comedic actor ever, and he has has never starred in a great, influential comedy film. Most people would consider Sandler’s best movie to be Happy Gilmore, which is a pretty funny movie but nowhere near a trademark comedy like Airplane, Animal House, or Anchorman.
Also, he’s a sellout. Sandler pumps out two crappy comedies a year with his Happy Madison production company and their only intention is making money, not making good movies.
The last four movies produced by Happy Madison were Zookeeper, Just Go With It, Grown Ups, and Paul Blart: Mall Cop. All of them received a rotten rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Zookeeper, Just Go With It, and Grown Ups all received a rating lower than 20% and Paul Blart got a 34% rotten rating.
But the good folks at Happy Madison don’t care that their movies sucked. All they care about is how well they did at the box office; and they all did great. Three out of four made over $100 million and Zookeeper, which is still out, has made $75 million.
Happy Madison will only make safe movies that they know will make money. This is how they make a movie at Happy Madison:
- They write a simple slap-stick comedy script with Sandler or Actor X getting hit in the nuts 3 or 4 times;
- Then they throw in a big star like Sandler, Kevin James, or Jennifer Aniston to market the movie around;
- Next they film it, then advertise it like crazy until it’s burned into your sub consciousness;
- Then you see it and walk out of the theater pissed because you realize that you will never get back the two hours you wasted seeing that crappy movie.
And in a few months Happy Madison makes over $100 million and does the same thing again.
South Park nailed it with their last episode on what’s wrong with Sandler’s movies and the comedy movie industry in general. Check these two clips.
Now Adam Sandler is starring in a new movie called Jack and Jill that is set to release on November 11th. The trailer came out back in June, but I didn’t see it until a few days ago and was shocked at how awful it looks. Here it is for you to watch, but don’t say I didn’t warn you.
All I can say is Wow. That can’t be a real movie. I don’t think I have ever seen a worse trailer than that.
Let’s do a Tosh.O video breakdown of this disastrous trailer.
From the get go you can tell that this is going to be a terrible movie because Adam Sandler is starring in it and the movie isn’t Happy Gilmore, The Wedding Singer, or Funny People.
Later, at the 0:29 second mark, we find out that Sandler, dressed in drag, is also playing Jill. Which is funny . . . in 1994.
0:36 – I love when the narrator mentions that this is from the producers of Just Go With It and Grown Ups, two terrible movies. They should have said “From the producers of Zookeeper and Bedtime Stories.” Wait, those movies sucked too. How about Don’t Mess with the Zohan and I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry? No those were terrible too. Click and Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo? I think we are seeing a trend here.
0:40 – Why does Adam, or I mean Jack, have an Indian son?
1:27 – No that can’t be who I think it is.
1:32 – NOOOOOO! NOOOOO! NOOOOOO! IT CAN’T BE!
1:33 – Michael Effin’ Corleone is in this crapper! NOOOOOOO!
1:37 – “Play twister with your sister” Another great joke. Please don’t spoil all the great jokes in the trailer; save some for the movie.
2:02 – Al Pacino just sent his career on a fishing trip to Lake Tahoe with Al Neri
2:31 – It’s over, thank God.
I have read on numerous blogs that Jack and Jill looked similar to one of the fictional movies that Adam Sandler’s character, George Simmons, in Funny People (my favorite Sandler movie) would have starred in. In Funny People, after George Simmons has become a successful stand-up comedian, he starts making bad, cheesy, family-friendly movies that made a ton of money but were terrible.
If you saw Funny People there were a few similarities between George Simmons and Adam Sandler. Both are very talented and funny stand-up comedians, and both of them have starred in bad movies just to make a lot of money. George Simmons starred in fictional movies like Merman, which is about a guy who turns into a Merman, or Merman who turns into a man, or something like that. And I have already mentioned many terrible movies that Adam Sandler has starred in in real life. I wonder if writer and producer Judd Apatow was trying to send a message to Sandler so it would inspire him to try to be creative with his career while he still has the opportunity.
Overall, the thing I hate most about Sandler is he has wasted his talent. Sandler was great on SNL and has been in some good movies like Billy Madison, (which I don’t like but plenty of other people do) Happy Gilmore, The Wedding Singer, and Funny People. Unfortunately he seems to care more about how much money is in his check book instead of what is on the silver screen.

Blame the public, not Sandler, for Jack and Jill, because they made Funny People flop, which drove him to do this upcoming cinematic atrocity.
Yeah, good point.
Personally, I think that while Jack and Jill may not outright flop, I feel like it could be his first broad comedy since Little Nicky to fail to reach 100M. I Hate You, Dad, on the other hand, looks to have more potential as it's looking at an R-rating.
I think Jack and Jill will be one of those movies that are so bad that you have to go see it. But, I agree that it won't make 100 million.
I'm admittedly a Sandler fan and I've gone to see his movies in theaters despite how bad they may look, but this looks bad enough that I won't be seeing it at all. Personally, I would love it if it made less than Funny People. It could be the audience's way of saying, 'Okay, we should have seen Funny People. We're sorry.'
Hahaha great point.
Though I agree this new movie looks horrible, Grown Ups and Just Go With It weren't terrible movies. Definitely not on the level that Jack and Jill will probably be, and certainly miles ahead of Zohan, which the worst movie I've ever seen.
I agree about Grown Ups and Just Go With It. Grown Ups, despite the large cast, was kinda meh because they should have gone R-rated but opted instead for family friendly antics with no real plot, but wasn't really awful. Just Go With It was a step above Grown Ups because it at least had a plot, although there were a good number of things it could have done without, but most importantly, the chemistry between Sandler and Aniston demonstrated the potential of them together again for something more worthwhile, perhaps something of the Apatow variety, or something 'Apatownian' as I like to say.
I loved Happy Gilmore. But you're right. Still not on the level of Anchorman! And I love South Park!
i love the man give him a break how funny are all you?????????????
You guys hate way too much on here… He’s the best actor of all time
What I HATE MOST of this annoying movie is that it is SO LOUD!!!! the WHOLE preview is Sandler YELLING!!!! It gives me a headache!!! Great review I COULDNT AGREE MORE!!!! Happy Gilmore was funny. But all this dick and fart jokes for people who have the maturity of an 11 year old boy is just insulting to people who actually use their brains.
This could be the worst movie Sandler has ever made and he's made some bad ones. I loved his 90's movies and a few in the 2000's. If you pay money to see this movie after that trailer you don't have very good taste in movies.
We got trapped in at a drive in for Grown Ups as it was the second feature. After a few lame jokes, we looked at each other and said simultaeously: "This is really bad." Seriously, I've laughed harder sitting around with a bunch of friends. It was absolutely the worst movie we've ever seen. The topper was the video cam footage of the water park. I've seen funnier things at the local water park. If you ever go to a drive in with an Adam Sandler written movie featured second, please plan an escape route.
