Will it be Braxton Miller to Joe Bauserman under center for the Ohio State Buckeyes in 2011?

As you undoubtedly know by now, Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor is foregoing his senior season at Ohio State.

With everything that has gone on around the Ohio State football team in recent months, it has almost been an afterthought they still have a football season to play this fall. Ohio State thought that they were going to have Terrelle Pryor’s services after he was done serving his five game suspension; now the Buckeyes must move on and find a quarterback to replace Pryor altogether.

Here is a look at the candidates that could replace Terrelle Pryor at quarterback this season.

Redshirt sophomore Kenny Guiton

He is a dual threat quarterback that many people believe has the potential to be a good quarterback.  He has very little experience playing quarterback at the collegiate level.

braxton-miller-ohio-state-qbIn 2010 he threw 2 passes, completed 1 pass for 5 yards, and threw an interception.   In the spring game he completed 11-of-21 passes for 167 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Freshman Braxton Miller

Miller was a very highly rated recruit coming out of high school.  According to Scout.com, Miller was a 5 star recruit and was ranked the second best quarterback in the 2011 class.

He does lack experience but many people think he has the talent to be the starter once the 2011 season begins.

Redshirt senior Joe Bauserman

He was the number one quarterback listed on the depth chart once spring practices started.   Bauserman does the have more experience over the other quarterbacks that he will be competing with for the starting position.  His experience though is very limited; the only action he has seen at quarterback has been mop up duty once Ohio State already had the game won the game.

More than likely the starting quarterback position will be a 2-man race between Bauserman and Miller.  By the time Ohio State plays their first game of the season, it would be a safe bet to say that Miller will be the starter.

I think it is a fine idea to allow Joe Bauserman to start the first game of the Season. The little Sisters of Perpetuation could beat Akron University and if the OSU Defense rises to the occasion, they will hold Akron to less than 10 points. The fans will see how Joe performs against a subpar competitor and Braxton will be allowed to relax on the sideline. If the Bucs can run the score up bigtime thru the 3rd Qtr. Luke can then put Braxton in to play in the 4th Qtr to gain some actual playing experience. If Bauserman has a lousy performance with Akron, it should signal to Luke to start Braxton for the 2nd game and see how he performs. If he is as good as I think he will be, OSU has another Pryor in the making with Braxton. The game in Miami will be a big test for Braxton, but one that he can rise to offset with game playing experience in Game 2. AP has OSU ranked 18th out of 25, with USC listed 25th. Troy Smith proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that a scrambling QB is better for OSU than a pocket passer like Joe. Pryor reproved this theory with his great running skills. OSU does not need another 13 years of Tressel like Conservative 3 yards and a cloud of dust offense.
