Someone had to do it, so I figured I might as well take this one for the Internet team.

So here he is, Jim Rigglememe, explaining why his resignation (and subsequent partying) was definitely the most interesting resignation in the world yesterday.

How old is Kyrie Irving? 12?

I was just killing some time, scrolling this FOX Sports slideshow of the NBA Draft’s winners and losers when I came across a slide that described the Cavaliers as “losers” for what they accomplished last night.

The slide was accompanied by this pic, and I swear that my split second, knee-jerk reaction to seeing it was, “Who the hell is the middle schooler on the left?”

Why do NBA teams draft so many international players over U.S.-born college players?

targuy-ngombo

The 2011 NBA draft was one that was expected to be filled with international players. This came to be true when a total of 14 international players were taken in this year’s draft.

It was known that guys like Enes Kanter, Jonas Valanciunas, Jan Vesely, and Bismack Biyombo would be drafted, but many NBA fans were caught off guard by some of the foreign players taken later in the draft.

Welcome Home, George Hill

When LeBron James announced last summer that he was taking his talents to South Beach, the American sports-viewing public was disappointed. We were disappointed that LeBron felt that he needed a one-hour television special to make a free agency announcement, that ESPN went along with it, and that we watched it.

But we were also disappointed that LeBron left Cleveland.

We knew it was coming, but we held out hope that the best high school player to come out of northern Ohio would stay in the Cleveland-Akron-Elyria combined statistical area and bring a championship (or at least some more good basketball) to North America’s most long-suffering sports city.

Professional sports teams are named for cities, states and regions, but the athletes themselves are mercenaries. Often they have no prior connection to the city in which they play. They’re hired to do a job, and they pack up and move accordingly. Even athletes who would love nothing more than to suit up for the team they cheered on as a kid don’t always have that opportunity. They’re at the mercy of drafts, trades, and salary caps.

So it’s refreshing when things work out and a hometown product can play for the hometown team.

At least ONE fan at the draft didn’t hate David Stern

Email Post Email Post

If you watched any of the NBA Draft’s first round last night, you heard the chorus of boos that reigned down on NBA commissioner David Stern from pick #1 all the way until pick #30.

But at least one fan in attendance at least liked Stern enough to wear a shirt with a gigantic picture of the commish.

Ron Artest is changing his name to something much more interesting than yours

The next Chad Ochocinco has emerged. It should surprise no one that it is Ron Artest. The mercurial forward is now apparently changing his name to Metta World Peace.

This is interesting because my parents were originally going to go with Metta World as my first name, but they settled on Jerod instead. Oh how different things might have turned out…

Four big-name coaches from Ohio and why will not replace Luke Fickell as Ohio State head football coach in 2012

If you are a football coach from the state of Ohio, then it seems like you automatically become a candidate to replace Luke Fickell as head football coach at Ohio State University in 2012.

Many big name coaches from Ohio have been tossed around as possible candidates to replace Fickell as head football coach.  This once proud program is about to receive the harshest penalty from the NCAA since SMU got the death penalty in 1986.  This may have been one of the top jobs in college football in years past, but now it is a job that will have many premier coaches from the state of Ohio turning down.

Here is why these top coaches from Ohio will not replace Luke Fickell in 2012. [Read more...]

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Gazelle for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

I’m going to go out on a limb, and not a very long one, and guess that you probably have some old electronic gadgets laying around. I know I do. The question is: what do you do with all of your old stuff? Throw it away?

I hope not.

If you simply toss out your old gadgets, not only are you wasting an opportunity to recoup some cash, you are also harming the environment. Wouldn’t it be nice if there was a way to make some money while at the same time ensuring that your old gadgets didn’t pollute ground?

There is. It’s called Gazelle, and you can learn more at gazelle.com.
