Oh the way things were. Times have changed just a bit, no?
The most interesting tidbit here is the link between smoking and ALS. I did not know that. Now I’m even more glad I quit!

Like everyone, I am intrigued by Bryce Harper’s prodigious baseball talent, and I look forward to seeing him at the Major League level someday soon.
But if he keeps doing stuff like this, I think everyone will be looking forward to seeing him get drilled in the back with a fastball (and he will) as much as we look forward to seeing him drill home runs for the Nationals.
Something tells me he is going to have a rude awakening once he gets to the big show…

The Golden State Warriors are making some serious changes to the organization, and it’s starting right at the top: head coach and superstar.

This is the first bit of information I’ve seen about the lockout and been interested in reading and sharing in over a month.
Under the reported plan, the eight-game season would start in late November and culminate with the Super Bowl in Indianapolis Feb. 12. The NFL has previously cleared the way for the Super Bowl to be played as late as Feb. 12.
The league is looking to give teams five weeks before the season to sign free agents, hold training camps, and possibly play preseason games.
I suppose it’s a given that the NFL would be making contingency plans, but it is still a bit jarring to think about an 8-game season. How lame.

I am not one who usually agrees with Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano, but he spoke nothing but truth yesterday when he called the Cubs “embarrassing’ after being swept by the St. Louis Cardinals.
I don’t know if any of you have watched the Cubs lately, but if you have, it’s hard not to agree with Zambrano’s assessment.

I got an email today with the subject line “Midwest Sports fans rejoice.” Naturally I opened it, as it sounded like something that would be right in our wheelhouse here at Midwest Sports Fans.
I was not in any way, shape, or form, prepared for what I was about to see.

For once, I am applauding a Carlos Zambrano outburst rather than shaking my head in disbelief. He’s right. The Cubs are an embarrassment and have been for the last few years. It needed to be said.

Our buddy Rob over at Black Sports Online has the video and the breakdown. I noticed this during the game. I would have to think it would be a bit unnerving having Riles standing there staring, but maybe Spo is used to it by now…

We’re going non-sports here for a moment. Why? Because we can.
I just ran across this post at Funny or Die entitled “The 120 Best Dancing GIFs of All Time!” And while all of them are compelling in their own way, 10 in particular stood out among the rest for me. So I’ve re-posted them below for your amusement.

If I were Peter King, I might say that I think I think I like this idea.
Rutgers coach Greg Schiano has joined the growing chorus of people who believe that kickoffs are too dangerous. Having one of his players, Eric LeGrand, paralyzed because of a hit that occurred during a kickoff surely helped inspire this line of thinking.
So this is what Schiano is thinking should be done about kickoffs, via NJ.com:
