“When are people going to talk about the purity of our game and what these guys accomplished. That’s what’s special.” – Rick Carlisle

“To realize that [getting revenge on Miami for 2006] today, right now, in this moment? Sweet vindication.” – Jason Terry

The NBA – where amazing happens.

There are a lot of reasons why I love basketball. When played right, there is no game on the planet that is nearly as beautiful. The artistry and grace with which literal giants play the game is unmatched in any other sport. The on-the-fly adjustments that impact every game make it a thinking man’s game.

And oh yes, there is that part about “team.”

Mark Cuban went to a school, Indiana University, that defines itself by its business school and its basketball championships, among many other outstanding qualities. Now Cuban has combined those two elements and has won a basketball championship as an owner at the professional level.

On behalf of all fellow IU grads (class of ’04 here), I salute you Mark (class of ’81). Congrats on persevering to bring an NBA title to Dallas.

Making sense of 2011 NBA Finals…Reddit-style

loss-of-the-ring

I am going to leave the serious analysis of the 2011 NBA Finals to Jon, Devon, and our other writers who are more passionate and knowledgeable about the NBA than I am.

While we wait for their perspective, I’ll instead do what I do best: find outstanding links as well as hilarious ways to put big moments into context.

The latter is below, presented in no particular order. Just a random assortment of humorous yet illuminating perspectives on one of the most epic NBA Finals I can remember.

Some terrific perspective on the NBA Finals and, specifically, LeBron from Joe Posnanski that I was not expecting this morning. But I agree with it.

Humble, emotional, beloved Dirk finally gets his title

Whenever big moments happen in the NBA, there are two writers I typically go to perspective: Bill Simmons and Adrian Wojnarowski. It is far too early for Simmons to have written one of his 10,000 word tomes on what we nowitznessed last night, but Woj’s, of course, was in the can long before I even woke up.

And it’s predictably spectacular.

nba-finals-game-6-prediction-preview

Game 6 of the NBA Finals is tonight. Mavs-Heat, 3 games to 2.

This is one of the most genuinely epic sporting events that we have had in a while, because in many ways it is more than a decade in the making.

There are so many storylines, so much drama, and such a plethora of talents being taken down to South Beach tonight. I can’t wait, and I know you can’t either. So let’s kill a few minutes making some meaningless predictions that won’t matter a lick come 7:00 CT tonight.

For Dirk, LeBron, and D-Wade, Legacies On The Line

For LeBron James and Dwyane Wade, and for Dirk Nowitzki as well, it’s time to write the concluding words in one more chapter of each of their legacies.

With a much scrutinized off-season long gone and an uphill battle of a regular season now behind them, the Miami Heat find themselves on the brink in the NBA Finals. And this isn’t just any ordinary NBA Finals, because there is way more on the line than an NBA championship.

The second round of interleague play is right around the corner and it is important to know if that is going to affect your lineup or not.

Trending topics pointed out in your hitting planner this week include the lack of fantasy production from 3rd basemen this year and low fantasy ratings for some big named players.

This is the heart of the regular season for most leagues and steady play from seasoned veterans is starting to take hold.

Dalton could start week 1

Email Post Email Post

Update: In a recent radio interview, Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said he envisions rookie Andy Dalton as the Bengals' Week 1 starter. "There’s no question when we selected Andy Dalton we selected him with that in mind that he’d possibly be our opening-day starting quarterback," said Lewis.  Perhaps owner Mike Brown should listen to his coach and trade disgruntled quarterback Carson Palmer.

Titans won’t cut Britt

Update: NFL Network's Albert Breer reports that there is "about no chance" that the Titans would cut Kenny Britt after his sixth arrest since April 2009.  Britt is the second best player on the team behind Chris Johnson who is very much unhappy with the team right now.  Expect Britt to get another chance with the Titans.
