Tragedy strikes college basketball: Gus Johnson, CBS part ways

Altogether now: NOOOOOOO!!!!!!

Richard Deitsch informed college basketball fans today that iconic college basketball voice Gus Johnson and CBS could not reach a new deal.

This means that the unthinkable will become reality as soon as next season: March without Gus Johnson.

Again, altogether now: NOOOOOOO!!!!!

The patron saint of March Madness buzzer-beaters will not be calling the NCAA tournament next year.

SI.com has learned that CBS Sports recently parted ways with Gus Johnson, a play-by-play mainstay on its college basketball coverage for 16 years, after the two sides could not agree on a new deal. Johnson has also worked as a play-by-play voice for the network’s NFL coverage since 1998.

If you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go find a small corner of my office, curl up, and cry tears of college basketball sorrow. In the meantime, I’ll leave you with this:

    My friends and I had a very depressing talk about this, this morning on our way to school. March Madness might happen because Gus is March Madness.
