I love clever fan T-shirts, and I just stumbled upon a new favorite thanks to the city of Chicago’s #1 sports fan (as anointed by Midwest Sports Fans): Sarah Spain. She just posted the pic below to her Facebook account, and a simple like wouldn’t do. I had to post it.

Video: Charles Barkley shatters driver on 1st tee at Champions Tour Regions Tradition at Shoal Creek

Charles Barkley is one of the most entertaining and engaging sports personalities of my lifetime. There are a variety of reasons why this is the case, and it is unnecessary for me to expatiate because I’m sure that you agree with me.

In this post, I am going to focus on one of the more notoriously entertaining aspects of the Charles Barkley Experience: his putrid golf game, manifested so awfully with every herk, jerk, and duff produced by his flagrantly ugly swing.

And recently, on the 1st tee at the Champions Tour Regions Tradition at Shoal Creek, Barkley delivered one of the more ignominious moments of his mostly ignominious golfing “career”.

A Plea for Geographically Appropriate Pro Sports Nicknames

Oklahoma City versus Memphis. It’s a battle of relocated franchises. Ten years ago writers covering this series would have spent two weeks in the Pacific northwest; now they’re driving back-and-forth on Interstate 40 through Arkansas.

Both the Grizz and the Thunder made north-south migrations last decade; both moved into small markets; both have a wealth of young talent; and both are giving the Western Conference establishment fits.

But there is one key difference between these two not-so-storied franchises: When the Grizzlies moved from Vancouver to Memphis, they kept their ursine nickname; when Clay Bennett moved his team to Oklahoma, he left “SuperSonics” behind in Seattle.

Luckily this proposed OKC Sonics logo proved unnecessary.

The NBA Playoffs: A Battle of Matchups

Email Post Email Post
derrick-rose-carlos-boozer

The NBA playoffs are now heating up. The first round is long gone, and we’ve seen some amazing basketball up to this point from both conferences.

Whether it was watching the Grizzlies stun the might Spurs, or watching the Hawks take out Dwight Howard and his Orlando Magic in the East. Then there was domination from teams like Boston, Oklahoma City, and Miami.

Yes, these NBA Playoffs have been great, and are sure to get better.

But there is one thing that I have realized over the past few seasons: the NBA Playoffs are not about who finished with the best record during the regular season. The NBA Playoffs have continued to show me that no matter if you’re an 8th seeded team or the best-seeded team, there is always the opportunity for you to advance.

And why is that? Simply: because the NBA Playoffs are a battle of matchups.

Beginning Baseball: Baseball Statistics 101

Email Post Email Post
jason-kubel

Editor’s note: Amanda Lawson is a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan who is getting into baseball for the first time this year. After much deliberation and counsel, Amanda settled on the Minnesota Twins as her team. With “Beginning Baseball” Amanda is documenting her first season of baseball fandom.

If you’re going to learn about baseball, you need to know statistics.

Of course statistics are important in other sports too, but if you really want to grasp baseball and the talent and performance level of an individual, you need to understand the numbers behind the game.

So many games are played in baseball that one win cannot define a team. (Wow, I sound like a broken record!) And that’s where the numbers come in to play.

Breaking Down Christian Ponder and the Rest of the Minnesota Vikings 2011 Draft Class

Email Post Email Post
christian-ponder-vikings

I love the NFL Draft.

Actually, I love the thought of the NFL Draft.

For some reason, I spend three months every year trying to find the perfect scenario for the Vikings when it comes to the last weekend in April, only to sit and stare at the screen when everything falls apart. It’s just another thing to add to the list of things that make me hate sports.

For some reason though, I come back every year, and this year was no different.

The Vikings are entering a season with a new head coach and a lot of questions. What better way to get a head start on everything than with a great draft right? Well, I wouldn’t call this year’s draft a great one, but I wouldn’t call it a terrible one either. I’m not one to assign or even look at draft grades. I’d rather assess the picks by need and caliber, which we are about to do.

Well, we know who probably didn’t kill Bin Laden…

Whenever monumental news of global importance breaks, you can be sure that the Internet will be filled with commentary and opinion…and that not all of it will be serious and analytical.

Of everything I have seen today — the day after we learned that Osama Bin Laden was finally brought to justice for being one of the most malevolent and nefarious jackwagons of all time — nothing has made me laugh more than this little gem of a screen shot from The Office, courtesy of the wonderful little slice of the web world known Reddit.

Cleveland Indians’ bullpen an underrated component of Tribe’s early season success

Email Post Email Post

The Tribe capped off another late-inning dramatic win over the Tigers on Saturday night thanks to a bases loaded single by Orlando Cabrera.  Include another victory over the Tigers on Sunday, and it improves the Indians record to 19-8, best in the AL.

And don’t forget about Friday night, when Carlos Santana smashed a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the 9th inning. In my opinion, this was the most exciting victory for the Indians this year.

Cleveland should not only thank their clutch hitting for those wins, but the bullpen deserves credit as well. Cleveland’s bullpen has been a huge reason why the Indians have been able to keep games close until the offense completes the heroic victory.
