Chicago Blackhawks Make Playoffs, Get Chance to Defend Championship Thanks To Minnesota

Email Post Email Post

*First-off, I would just like to thank every single player on the Minnesota Wild team. The chances of them beating the Dallas Stars was not very good, yet they showed tremendous heart in a game that was completely meaningless and played like they were the team hoping to make the playoffs.  The Wild were without all their star players, and somehow defeated a playoff-hungry team who had won four in a row just to get into this situation. I can’t thank them enough.

The Chicago Blackhawks couldn’t do it themselves, so the Minnesota Wild had to do it for them. A 5-3 Dallas loss gives the ‘Hawks the eighth and final seed of the 2010-11 NHL season.

Derrick Rose

Let me start off by saying it’s good to be back, my NBA readers!

Life tends to get in the way at times, and for a busy student, athlete, and social human, life tends to get in the way loads of times! Even my twitter account was quiet for about a month or so, but I’m back on that as well so don’t forget to follow me guys!

So with that said, I’m back for good and ready to deliver just in time for the playoffs!

Many things have happened since I’ve been gone. Derrick Rose seems to have made his case for the MVP award thus far as his Bulls have clinched the #1 spot in the East, while the new-look Knicks have had a rough time getting into a steady flow. But thanks to the guys here at MSF, the NBA perspective seems to have been covered pretty well.

So without further ado, here’s what the NBA fan needs to know going into this exciting post-season.

Texas, Oakland, Vernon Wells and the AL Worst

I was one of the few, it seemed, that felt Texas would repeat as AL West champs. And earlier this week, I wrote about how the 2011 Rangers are just as good, if not better, than the 2010 version.

We don’t cover golf a ton here at MSF, but we usually do light up for the Majors. Even if you’re just a casual golf fan, which is what I consider myself to be, it is easy to get sucked into courses with the beauty and history of Augusta and stories like the comeback of a once colossal golfing force.

In this post, we will quickly run down all of the Masters Saturday tee times – for Tiger, Rory, Phil, and everyone else – as well as give you all the TV info you need, and then a quick preview for what you’re likely to see on Moving Day at Augusta.

How Should I Feel About the Pacers Making the Playoffs?

Email Post Email Post
indiana-pacers-playoffs

With Wednesday night’s blowout win over the Wizards, coupled with Charlotte overtime loss to the Magic, the Indiana Pacers clinched the eighth and final Playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Thus ends a five-year Playoff drought—the sort of drought that younger generations of Pacers fans aren’t accustomed to. Between 1990 through 2006 the Pacers made the Playoffs in 16 of 17 seasons.

Now they’re back. We should be excited, right?

Maybe.

Photo Story: “One Win Hunting” – Starring Red Sox Manager Terry Francona, Matt Damon & Ben Affleck

The Boston Red Sox entered the 2011 MLB season with the highest of high hopes. After signing Carl Crawford and Adrian Gonzalez in the offseason, and with the healthy returns of Dustin Pedroia and Kevin Youkilis (among others), the Red Sox were the majority pick to win the AL Pennant.

However, the expected dominance has not materialized. Slow starts by some normally stellar hitters plus disastrous pitching has led to a shocking 0-6 record for the Sox. Friday Boston plays its home opener at Fenway Park, where the team hopes that some home cooking can cure its ills. It won’t be easy though; the hot hitting Yankees will be in town. (Including the ever-photogenic ARod…)

It goes without saying that Red Sox Nation is in full-on panic mode. Thursday evening, after lowly Cleveland completed its sweet of Boston, the two most famous Red Sox fans – Matt Damon and Ben Affleck – decided to voice with their frustrations. MSF was there and it’s all captured in our latest photo story.

With NBA Lockout Looming, College Players Face Tough Decision

Email Post Email Post
Kyrie-Irving-Duke

The NFL lockout has covered the news for nearly a month now. What people don’t realize is that the NBA is destined to follow the same path that the NFL has. The NBA’s collective bargaining agreement is expiring after the season, and the owners and players have not made any progress recently in trying to agree to a new CBA.

Despite the current uncertainty, the NFL will likely play a full season in 2011 with the players likely getting at least some of their way in the ongoing negotiations. The NBA faces a different path.

5 Reasons Why the Chicago Blackhawks Will Not Repeat

Email Post Email Post

In my last post I laid out five reasons why the Chicago Blackhawks would repeat this year as Stanley Cup Champions. It might have come off as a little far-fetched, but that’s how it was supposed to come off.

I am a huge fan, and I love my team and want to see it achieve, so I was laying out the ideal situation of what could happen moving forward. If you’re a sports fan you surely have felt that exact same way before.

But that doesn’t mean those five points weren’t true. I believe everything I wrote, but that doesn’t mean I can’t see reality and be objective just because I am a fan.

Thus, I am here now to give you the exact opposite of my last article – five reasons why the Blackhawks will not repeat in 2011. Balance is always good.
