MLB Trivia Challenge Podcast sponsored by Generational Equity: Quiz 1 Winner and Chilis Gift Card Recipient Announced!

Email Post Email Post

As you know, we launched the MLB Trivia Challenge Podcast sponsored by Generational Equity last week. The first podcast featured my friendly reunion with Ken Rosenthal, as well as five brain-teasing baseball trivia questions researched by our very own Ari Kaufman.

It has now been a full seven days since Quiz 1 went live, and after receiving a ridiculously high number of submissions considering this is our first time doing anything like this, I am excited to announce the first winner of the $20 Chili’s gift certificates that are perfect for a two-person lunch break: Jeff Wallack.

Matthew and Daniel Hansen: Two most worthy reasons to care about NASCAR, even if you don’t

I was born and raised in Carmel, Indiana. While I was growing up, I thought you couldn’t live in a more boring place. I used to tell people that the state really only had three things: the best basketball in America, lots and lots of corn, and THE RACE – once a year.

Of course, now that I live in the South, I miss a lot of the subtleties of the Midwest. But I will always remember the buzz of excitement that swept through Hoosier-Land during the month of May.

Boston Celtics v Miami Heat Preview, Prediction & TV Schedule: The Revenge of LeBron and Wade

Email Post Email Post
heat-celtics-preview

You read it right NBA fans:

The Revenge of LeBron James and Dwyane Wade.

The matchup we’ve been waiting for since the first game of the NBA’s long season has finally arrived. The battle of the top dogs in the East is here, as green meets red, north meets south, and stars meet stars.

While I believe this matchup has come too soon, I cannot argue at the fact that it is happening. Not only do both of these world-class organizations bring a good set of basketball skills to the table, but the matchup itself brings numerous sub-plots. Whether it is Shaq’s playoff return to Miami, or whether it be LeBron’s 3rd shot at taking down the C’s in the post-season, or perhaps even a little Delonte West gossip, it’s all packed in this series folks.

Update on Baseball’s Over/Underrated players

Email Post Email Post
The article

Back in February, USA Today’s 2011 MLB Preview Magazine published a lengthy piece by yours truly, whereupon I rendered my thoughts on who the most over and underrated players in the game were as we approached the new campaign.

I figured I might as well do a monthly update on these “predictions,” so as to capriciously praise or condemn myself.

Buckeye fan defends embattled, but not defeated, Jim Tressel

Email Post Email Post

I love Twitter.

I deleted my Facebook account this year and exclusively post personal thoughts, links, quotes, information and anything else relevent to life or that day’s events to my Twitter account. It was a good move on my part. At least Conan O’Brien or a fake Hawk Harrelson account can entertain me at least once a day. Not to mention there are great bloggers I have found through Twitter, as it is an an exciting way to gain multiple perspectives and links to solid writing.

This is way better than my social media fix being spent scrolling through Facebook status updates about being tired and needing coffee every morning or some crappy local band having another local bar show. My choice; I don’t loathe people on Facebook. I just like twitter a lot.

I also hate Twitter.

Sounds scizophrenic, I know, but hear me out.

I see what is trending and occasionally read what exactly people are posting about an item. “Jim Tressel” was trending recently so I naturally wanted to see comments from the general public. While it would be nice to live in a bubble and only read Terrelle Pryor’s tweets about how much he loves his coach, that is too shallow for my nature. I have strong, one-sided opinions, but I always educate myself on the who, what, where, and why of others’ opinions whether I agree or not.

With that said, I saw nothing on Twitter recently that links to the reality and only stuff that is being overblown in the sports world. All I see are uninformed, hateful comments about Coach Tressel.

2011 NFL Draft Time, TV Info, and Live Blog

Tonight, for the first time in many weeks, I will actually pay attention to the NFL.

I have been actively avoiding reading and talking about the NFL as much as possible during the nonsense that has been the labor debate and lockout, as I’m sure many of you have too. Thanks to the mainstream media’s obsession with all things football, it makes doing so very difficult; but I promise I’ve given it my best effort.

I am lifting the football embargo tonight, however, because I love the draft.

Blogging Fitness: Shedding pounds for the Royal Wedding

Email Post Email Post

American Laurel Wright may not be on the guest list, but she will be flaunting her new figure in her wedding dress

When a young bride is on the brink of her big day, she is often shedding pounds for her stroll down the aisle. But what happens after that dress comes off and is packed away neatly in a box? Naturally, as years progress, a woman may not be as trim as her wedding day. This is not the standard, but a common occurrence.

With Royal Wedding nuptials on the brain, an American gal wanted to don her finest wedding attire as well, so Laurel Wright was struck with the idea that she too would wear her wedding dress for the big event.

Classless Chicago Bulls Show Their True Colors

Email Post Email Post

Most of us, if we were honest, would admit that we hate it when people exaggerate or jump to premature conclusions.  There was a guy in my dorm at college who was legendarily awful with this.  In fact, we called him “Topper” because no matter how outrageous of a story you had, he would pop in the room with a bigger and better tale just so he could “top” yours.

But of all areas in life, sports is the easiest to do it in.  Hyperbole abounds anytime somebody’s favorite team, player, or sport is mentioned.

I don’t believe what I’m about to say qualifies.  In fact, I am trying to squash the exaggerated notions about Chicago Bulls, Derrick Rose, and their playoff prospects.

The Absurdity of the NFL Labor Situation Continues

ryan-clark-charlie-batch-players-locked-out-of-facility

It was announced on Monday night that judge Susan Nelson had temporarily lifted the NFL lockout. It is being appealed, of course, but this still meant that players could finally return to their teams’ training facilities immediately.

Tuesday came and many players were excited to return to training. One player in particular, Josh Cribbs of the Browns, tweeted his excitement about being able to return to training.

However, the players arrived and were informed by security that they could not train.
