The Captain Morgan BracketMaster Challenge Presented by Spike.com Rolls On

As you know, MSF was one of 32 blogs given the privilege of competing in the Captain Morgan BracketMaster Challenge Presented by Spike.com. Unfortunately, our official Morganette Erica lost in the first round of the the voting, so neither Griffin nor I will get to go to Las Vegas for the Elite 8. Boo to that.

However, I did receive a pretty nice little consolation prize over the weekend. Certified friend of MSF Christian Matthews, one of the many people in charge of managing this massive campaign, invited me along this past Saturday night to the Lakers-Mavericks game here in Dallas. The Captain was in attendance as part of Captain Morgan’s quest to donate $1 million for 1 million Captain poses, and I got to tag along, look like goofy in a few pictures, and enjoy a great Lakers-Mavs game from a kickass suite.

Most importantly for me personally, I got to cross something off of my sports bucket list: see Kobe Bryant play live. Sure, it was not vintage Kobe (he barely scored double figures, though he did hit a couple of huge shots late), and he damn near busted his ankle in the second half, but it was still a thrill to be in the same building with one of the greatest athletes of my lifetime.

Also, as a slow, awkward, white guy who prided myself on my outside shooting back in my playing days, it was also great to see Dirk Nowitzki live and in person. He certainly did not disappoint.

But the true star of the night was The Captain, who of course is the official brand ambassador of Captain Morgan. He was out two hours before game time hobnobbing with the folks in the American Airlines Center plaza, and then all throughout the AAC concourse leading up to the game. I have some video that I’ll post once the Madness settles down a bit, and it’s entertaining because he is a funny dude.

To close this post, I will remind you once again to keep voting in the BracketMaster Challenge. Even though Erica is gone, there are plenty of lovely ladies to ogle and vote on, so go spend a few minutes over there once you finish up your NCAA brackets.

And finally, here are those goofy pictures I mentioned above. Clearly my Captain pose needs a lot of work.
