Yahoo Report: Jim Tressel knew players were selling gear in April, possible major violation

Email Post Email Post
yahoo-report-jim-tressel-potential-violations

Uh oh.

For the college sports fans, the last thing you ever want to see is the phrase “Yahoo Report” anywhere near your team’s name. Ask USC and UCONN, among others, how that usually works out.

The latest high profile sports program to come under the investigative eye of Yahoo Sports is the the Ohio State Buckeyes football program and its seemingly untouchable coach Jim Tressel. If the latest Yahoo report proves true – and Tressel knew that Terrelle Pryor and other players were selling gear eight months before the university claimed it first knew – we’ll get a true test of just how Teflon the Sweater Vest really is.

A Salute to Patrick Sharp and a Few of the NHL’s Other Most Intriguing Off-Ice Personalities

Email Post Email Post

When it comes to playing in the NHL (or any other professional sport for that natter) there are two lives an athlete must balance: their life on-ice and their live off the ice. Whether they can juggle the two roles is up to them.

There are some players who go above and beyond the call of duty. These guys are able to balance being productive on the ice and having engaging personalities off it. They add flair and spice to their team while entertaining both fans and non-fans alike.

Here’s are a few of the most intriguing off-ice personalities in the NHL.

One-Dimensional LeBron James Continues to Fail Fatally Flawed Miami Heat in Crunch Time

“The Miami Heat are exactly what everyone wanted, losing games. The world is better now because the Heat is losing.”

So many thoughts ran through my mind last night as I sat there trying to digest what I thought was an awkward cry for help from Dwyane Wade.

I laughed as I heard Coach Spo let us know that there were players crying in the locker room. Jason Whitlock hit the nail on the head here. I would only add that I think Dwyane Wade cried too and Bosh TRIED to cry because the other two were crying.

I think that Flash cried because the team is clearly not his, and the Heat are worse because of it.

WR Edwards wants to stay a Jet

Email Post Email Post

Update: Free Agent wide receiver Braylon Edwards says he wants to continue playing in a Jets uniform.

Fantasy Impact: Braylon Edwards caught 53 passes for 904 yards, and 7 touchdowns last season as a New York Jet. With those numbers, it would be hard for the Jets to let him go. Because of his size, he is an obvious redzone threat and he’s hard to cover. Edwards is currently involved with a drunken-driving case, but it shouldn’t cause the Jets to be reluctant to resign him.

Westbrook Open to Philly Return

Email Post Email Post

Update: Veteran Running Back Brian Westbrook communicates with Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid weekly, and is open to coming back to Philly.

Fantasy Impact: Westbrook told Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia, “We always talk, and I would love to be back in Philly. So we’ll see how things go”. Westbrook, a 31 year old vet, believes he would still be able to help the team win. The Eagles offense is filled with young talent, so bringing back a veteran to the offense wouldn’t be a bad idea to help the younger guys progress.

March Madness: Bubble Boys – Championship Week Edition

Email Post Email Post

Over the weekend, the first four tickets to the Big Dance were handed out, and Championship Week officially kicked off.

As much as I love the NCAA Tournament, Championship Week is a close second given the emotion and passion shown by teams putting everything on the line in their one and only chance to go dancing.

In short, if you don’t get psyched for Championship Week, you’re dead to me.

As we enter the season’s final week, there is still plenty of work to be done for bubble teams, but given the weak bubble this year, it’s tough to feel bad for any teams who wind up being left out.  They’ve all had their chances to prove themselves.

Video: Athletes and Money

This was just a quick seven minute satire project we did for English class this year. We decided to satirize athletes, mainly because we feel like they become too egotistical and tend to have a break from reality when it comes to money.

March Madness 2011: Automatic Bids for NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament – Conferences and Teams

Update: For the second year in a row, we are holding an MSF Bracket Challenge over at ESPN.com. Sign up now and then fill in your brackets after they are announced on Selection Sunday.

One of the most exciting and underrated aspects of March Madness actually occurs the week before the NCAA Tournament brackets are even announced. All across the country right now, conference tournaments are being held – in every conference but the Ivy League – that give every team in America a chance to make the Big Dance.

The table below outlines each conference that receives an automatic bid, and I’ll be updating it with the team that will be going dancing as the tournaments end. Many of these tournaments see the top seed “hold serve”, but many others see Cinderellas emerge and capture the conference’s automatic bid.

In fact, it just happened a few hours ago when 3rd-seeded Indiana State defeated #1 seed Missouri State to capture the Missouri Valley Conference title.
