Links Sophia Bush Would Love: Carmelo Anthony is a Knick, Many Others Are No Longer Knicks, and a Spring Training Roundup

It’s morning. While you get out your favorite coffee mug, pour a glass of orange juice, and make sure you have enough milk for your bowl of cereal, get yourself back up to date with the happenings in, or at least somewhat near, the sporting universe.

The following are links that we’re certain Sophia Bush would love.

Hmmm, what to start with today? Ah yes, Carmelo Anthony is, at long last, in the place he wanted to be all along: a member of the New York Knicks.

Of course, this is huge news for the Knicks and their fans, but it really isn’t all that surprising by itself. New York was the only place where Anthony was going to sign that three-year extension, which brings us to the real story of this trade, as Will Leitch yesterday so perfectly recapped: The Knicks, the team in the best position to play hardball as the deadline neared, effectively reset their team once again, dealing nearly every player who had a hand in this season’s return to respectability, for no reason other than their own doing. They panicked, and they held all the cards, as Mike Lupica also relayed.

So really, this is only another beginning for the Knicks. With Anthony and Stoudemire in the fold, the foundation is set. But they’ll likely be without Donnie Walsh’s services (as they seem to have been during this trade process), the guy who did all the fat-trimming in the first place, next season. In return, Isiah Thomas is back, he isn’t going anywhere, and that is scary. And oh yeah, the support system around the Big Two needs to be completely rebuilt. Again.

Anthony is a top-level talent in the NBA, obviously, and his arrival in New York could, emphasis could, mean future free agent acquisitions down the line, but for now, boy, the Knicks sure did give up a lot for someone who wasn’t going anywhere else.

Here’s some Knicks fans reactions. And the view from the Denver Nuggets fans perspective.

– And the whirlwind of moves has probably just begun. Corey Brewer, currently a Knick, could be traded shortly. Also, from Denver, Nene and Danilo Gallinari — who must be wondering what in the world is going on — could be getting shopped.

I love the craziness of all this, but my head’s already spinning. Let’s get to the rest of the sports world, which does indeed still exist.

– Spring training roundup: What should the Tigers do about Miguel Cabrera? Connecting this offseason’s Derek Jeter contract situation — and Yankee management continuing to stick their feet in their mouths — and the current Albert Pujols ordeal … Alex Rodriguez doesn’t care what you think, he just loves him some popcorn … and from both ends of the career spectrum, 18-year-old Bryce Harper is getting Nationals camp all hot and bothered, and Trevor Hoffman is retired and happy.

– From this past weekend, Reggie Miller did not make the Basketball Hall of Fame, and it’s hard to understand why.

– Lastly, MSF’s own Ari Kaufman does a complete take-down of the East Coast bias in college basketball.

Tuesday is here, Carmelo is a Knick, and we’re probably just getting started.
