Big Ben should be fine today

Email Post Email Post

Update: ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger "battled a cold this week that left him without his voice for two days," but that he is "feeling better now" and it should not be an issue tonight.

Fantasy Impact:  There is nothing here to worry about.  Big Ben is playing in this game and looks to upend the Jets and loud mouth coach Rex Ryan.

Harris should be ready to go

Email Post Email Post

Update: Speaking to ESPN's Rachel Nichols on Sunday morning, Bears safety Chris Harris said his hip was "feeling better, feeling good actually."  Harris claims that he is going to play.

Fantasy Impact:  Harris said he would take a pain killer shot before the game, but will play.  The Bears need Harris in the secondary as he is a vocal leader, and tied for the team lead in INTs this season.

Pats not looking for new WR

Email Post Email Post

Update: ESPN Boston's Mike Reiss doesn't believe the Patriots will make finding a "big-time receiver" a priority this offseason.

Fantasy Impact:  There has been much talk about the Pats going out and getting a big name wideout since they dealt Randy Moss during the season.  The Pats however had no issue putting points on the board all season long, and actually got better without Moss.  The focus should be on the defense.

Let me be the 1,000,001st person to say it this week: it’s a historic matchup today in Chicago between the Bears and Packers!

I kid, but it really is a historic matchup. This is the NFL’s longest-running rivalry, with this the 182nd meeting, but the first playoff meeting since soon after Pearl Harbor. That’s a looong time ago.

Today’s Bears-Packers matchup kicks off at 2:00 CT (3:00 ET) on FOX. In this post, I quickly rundown the latest point spread and injury updates as we countdown to kickoff.

Most Super Bowl Wins and Team Super Bowl Records

I originally posted this before Super Bowl 43, the classic game that featured Santonio Holmes’ amazing catch in the back of the end zone of a laser thrown by Ben Roethlisberger.

The goal of the post then was simple and it hasn’t changed: track every team’s Super Bowl record and provide an easy table to see which team has the most Super Bowl wins.

With unfortunate music video, Buckeye basketball stars prove that when you’re #1 you can do whatever the hell you want

It seems like every day there is a new silly music video made by college students claiming their school as the best. Usually these videos feature original music and center around the school’s athletic teams, with decidedly non-athletic looking students (like these two dudes from my alma mater) doing the performing.

Here is what these videos typically are not: a) straight covers of cheesy, crappy pop songs; b) performed by the actual athletes themselves; c) so poorly performed that pouring acid into your ears might actually be a more pleasant experience.

Until now.

Brett Keisel’s beard is even more powerful than we thought

Brett Keisel’s beard is awesome. That we all know.

But I didn’t realize how awesome it was until I saw Keisel’s Wikipedia page.

Hey Coach K, why so serious?

While browsing Reddit a few minutes ago, I came across this. For those of you who are uninitiated in the more random side of Reddit humor, this is an example of a common meme in which pictures containing funny or ridiculous photobombs are altered to be even more random, funny, and ridiculous.

And since the Internet has warped my mind, I had to add one more frame showing what the Crazy Eyes Cathy (my name for her) and assistant coach Nate James are looking at and what Coach K and his little copycat proteges (seriously guys?) Chris Collins and Wojo can’t bear to see.

Mike Tomlin: The Anti-Jackwagon

Email Post Email Post
mike-tomlin-videos-unleash-hell

You’ve all seen the Geico commercial with R. Lee Ermey. (And if you haven’t, it’s embedded at the bottom of this post.) The basic premise is that the concept of Geico insurance being awesome is as obvious as the expectation that a former drill sergeant would make a terrible therapist. It goes a little something like this:

Turd Ferguson: And that’s why yellow makes me sad I think.

R. Lee Ermey: That’s interesting. You know what makes me sad? YOU DO! Maybe we should chug on over to Mamby Pamby Land where maybe we can find some self confidence for you, you JACKWAGON! … Tissue?

Here’s what I think: instead of chugging over to Mamby Pamby Land when you’re feeling down, lacking confidence, or devoid of purpose, why not just head on over to YouTube where maybe you can find some videos of Mike Tomlin talking. He is, without question, the anti-jackwagon.

Just make sure you pad your walls, because there is a good chance you’ll want to run through one after hearing Tomlin speak.

@JimIrsay Tweets of the Day: How Jim impacted the new season of American Idol and why Steven Tyler is a wanker

Email Post Email Post
jim-irsay-steven-tyler

Twitter has done many things since it exploded onto the scene a couple of years ago. From the perspective of a die-hard, obsessive sports fan like myself, one of the great effects of Twitter has been to give us peeks behind the curtain, so to speak, at what our favorite athletes and sports figures are like.

Well, there is perhaps no more entertaining and off-the-rails curtain to peek behind than that of Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay. He joined the micro-blogging site not too long ago and quickly became a prolific, must-follow tweeter. Knowing a little something about Irsay’s backstory – especially his indefatigable love of music – will help you to put his tweets into context. This quick Irsay biography tells you all you need to know.

The @JimIrsay Tweet(s) of the Day is our daily (for the most part) segment that celebrates the most compelling of Irsay’s tweets. In today’s episode, Jim regales us with tales of a talk he had with Steven Tyler, formerly of Aerosmith and now of American Idol, and why the famous singer is actually a “wanker.”

Bart Scott not the only one who “can’t wait” for Jets-Steelers

Email Post Email Post

For all of you who didn’t stick around long enough to watch the end of the Pats/Jets game last Sunday, and who haven’t watched SportsCenter at all this week, you missed one of the best on-field rants of all-time starring Jets LB Bart Scott and ESPN reporter Sal Paolantonio.

Bart wasn’t happy with all the non-believers picking the Pats over the Jets, and he let his anger be heard in the post game interview.
