Chicago Blackhawks Current Situation Is Not As Dire As Previously Thought

Email Post Email Post

Before this weekend the Chicago Blackhawks had a five day break before returning to action on Saturday, when they outplayed and beat the Detroit Red Wings 4-1, only to subsequently lose to the Philadelphia Flyers by the same score.

But I am not here to talk about those games or give any recap.

What that break did was this: it let all the other teams that were 2-4 games behind the Blackhawks in the standings and in games played catch up.

Duke hoops = still overrated?

Duke

Yessir.

As of today’s NCAA Coaches Poll, the Blue Devils have not beaten a single ranked team…yet are still ranked #3. That places them ahead of undefeated, unheralded San Diego State, among other squads with more quality wins.

Editor’s Recommendation: If you like sharing videos, then you should try BlipSnips

blipsnips video sharing service

Occasionally, I like to take a break from talking sports to recommend cool products or services that I have tried out myself. Sometimes these reviews are sponsored and I receive something of material value in return*; other times they are not.

In this case, I am about to tell you why you should be using BlipSnips when you share video for no reasons other than because I use it, I like it, and I like James – BlipSnips’ community manager. (Yes, folks, even in the age of keyboard networking, personal connections make a difference!)

Jets don’t think Edwards & Holmes will be back

Email Post Email Post

Update: Jets head coach Rex Ryan admitted Monday that he "doesn't know if it's feasible" for the team to re-sign both of their free agent wide receivers Santonio Holmes and Braylon Edwards.

Fantasy Impact:  Holmes and Edwards are both free agents this offseason and it would be a shock if the Jets did not make a strong play to keep Holmes who is the bigger playmaker of the two.

Links B.J. Raji Would Love: The Super Bowl Is Set, and the Green Bay Packers (and, ahem, the Pittsburgh Steelers) Are Involved. Oh, and Some Other Non-Football Stuff Too.

It’s the morning after the NFC and AFC Championship games, which is why this post is going up closer to the afternoon than morning.  As you chase a few ibuprofen down with a cup of coffee and try to get re-acclimated with real life, here are some sporty links to scour.  This may only apply to me, but yeah, Super Bowl.

Give Jay Cutler a break! Seriously injured or not, at least he didn’t do this

Email Post Email Post
jim-everett-phantom-sack-video

There is much furor on the Interwebs today about Jay Cutler and his injured knee. If you want to see the two warring sides of the argument read this by Mike Wilbon and this by Jim Trotter.

As for my opinion on Cutler, before I offer it up publicly I’m going to do something I don’t always do: wait.

Is it telling that so many of Cutler’s peers would call him out publicly? Yes. Is it also telling that a respected team leader like Brian Urlacher would so passionately have his back? Yes. I don’t like Cutler, so I’m predisposed to believing he wussed out on his team and took the easy way out yesterday, but I wasn’t there and have no information about the extent of his injury. Wilbon and Trotter know a lot more about it than I do, so read what they had to say and then make up your own mind on it. I’m in no position to try to shape opinions on this issue.

And besides, regardless of whether Cutler was injured or not, whether he wussed out or not, we’re all making way too big a deal about this. Why? Because even if Cutler’s injury wasn’t that bad, and if the worst accusations against him are true, he’d still only be second on the list of NFC Championship Game wuss outs by a quarterback.

Tomlinson wants to return

Email Post Email Post

Update: The Newark Star Ledger is reporting running back LaDainian Tomlinson said he hopes he can honor the final year of his contract.

Fantasy Impact:  Tomlinson is only set to make $2.45 million next year and he should have earned himself a spot on the roster next year.   Shonn Greene is clearly the featured back and the future of the team, but LT can certainly play a role again next year.

Pouncey has high ankle sprain

Email Post Email Post

Update: Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey (high ankle sprain) said that plans on playing in Super Bowl XLV.  "I had the same injury before on my other ankle and I know how to attack it," the Pro Bowl rookie said. "I know how to approach things."

Fantasy Impact: Pouncey will most likely take some time off these next two weeks and should be fine to go for the Super Bowl.  There is no way he doesn't suit up for the Super Bowl.

Dez Clark nearing end

Update: ESPN is reporting that Bears free agent tight end Desmond Clark said he does not expect to be back with the team. Clark spent most of the season on the inactive list, recording just one catch in five games.

Fantasy Impact: "I wasn't used this year. Where would I play if I came back, how would they use me?" Clark said following Sunday's loss to the Packers. It may be difficult for Clark to find another team.

In praise of the NFC Champion Green Bay Packers, and in defense (somewhat) of Jay Cutler

Email Post Email Post

We’re back!!!

13 years had just been too long.

It wasn’t exactly a cakewalk, but the Green Bay Packers are back on the NFL’s ultimate stage against the Pittsburgh Steelers, arguably the two most decorated franchises in pro football with perhaps the two most loyal fan bases.

It should be a fun two weeks in the Dallas area leading up to the game.

Cutler may have torn MCL

Email Post Email Post

Update: Jay Cutler will have an MRI on his left knee Monday and it is believed that he suffered a torn MCL in Sunday's season-ending loss to the Packers.

Fantasy Impact:  Caleb Hanie almost pulled off a miracle comeback but fell just short.  The fact that Cutler stood on the sideline for his team's loss is a disgrace.  Where is the heart?  Remember Phillip Rivers playing on a torn ACL in the 2008 AFC Championship Game?  That's heart.

Bettor’s Guide: Super Bowl XLV Pittsburgh Steelers v Green Bay Packers Pick, Point Spread, Over-Under Odds

I picked both underdogs in the conference championship games, which seemed like smart, safe strategy but didn’t work out quite as well as I’d hoped.

Find out how my picks worked out last week before I look ahead to Super Bowl XLV between the Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers. See the initial point spread and over-under odds, as well as my gut reaction pick. (Hey, the strategy has worked out pretty well all year. Why stop now?)
