Housh chokes on 4th down

Update: Ravens wideout T.J. Houshmandzadeh was invisible on Saturday, hauling in just three catches for 38 yards while dropping a would-be completion on fourth down of the Ravens' final drive in their 31-24 loss to the Steelers.

Fantasy Impact: Houshmandzadeh was supposed to be a high impact addition to the Ravens passing attack, but was anything but.  He had a horrific year and there is little chance the Ravens will bring him back next season.

Ray Rice not himself in loss

Email Post Email Post

Update: In his post game interview after the Ravens' heartbreaking 31-24 loss to the Steelers on Saturday, running back Ray Rice said he had not eaten in the past 24 hours, and to take fluid from IVs because of his stomach virus, according to NFL.com's Mike Duffy.

Fantasy Impact:  Rice is one of the most reliable running backs in the league when carrying the football and fumbled tonight, something he never does.  He does however always seem to fail to produce against the Steelers.

Ravens wideouts don’t show up

Update: The Baltimore Ravens got no production from their starting wideouts on Saturday night in their loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Fantasy Impact:  The Ravens added some high priced wideouts in the offseason, but they failed to produce.  Derrick Mason was held to just one catch and could be done with the team.  He will be 37 next year, and is due $4.5 million for 2011 which is probably too high for his output.

Ravens self destruct in loss

Update: Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco completed 16-of-30 passes for just 125 yards, one touchdown, and an interception in Saturday's playoff loss to Pittsburgh.

Fantasy Impact:  The Ravens went into halftime with a 21-7 lead, and came out in the second half and collapsed.  Flacco was sacked five times in the game, and made some bad throws, including an interception when he overthrew Todd Heap.

Eagles fire Sean McDermott

Update: The Philadelphia Eagles have fired defensive coordinator Sean McDermott.

Fantasy Impact:  This comes just a few days after head coach Andy Reid told the media that the team would retain McDermott. Dick Jauron figures to take over as the team most likely would have lost him to another team.  McDermott is likely to land on his feet someplace else, possibly in Cleveland.

James Jones torches Falcons

Update: Green Bay Packers wideout James Jones caught four balls for 75 yards and a touchdown in the teams Divisional Round win over the Atlanta Falcons.

Fantasy Impact:  Jones has had some issues with dropped balls lately, most notably last week against the Eagles when he dropped a clear touchdown pass that would have blown open the game.  Tonight he was solid.

Eagles will consider dealing Kolb

Email Post Email Post

Update: CBS' Charley Casserly reports that the Eagles will consider trading quarterback Kevin Kolb this offseason if they're offered a first-round pick.

Fantasy Impact:  There are a ton of teams in the market for a quarterback, with the Cardinals, Vikings and Titans leading the way.  Look for the Eagles to shop Kolb, but it will come down to whether or not they can ink Vick to a long term deal first.

Is anyone else but me and Joe Posnanski sick and damn tired of Mr. Excitement?

If you have watched a football game this year, then you are familiar with Mr. Excitement. He is one of four men who go to every Super Bowl. Thanks to Visa, and the NFL’s commitment to bend over for every last dollar it can get, we are reminded of their commitment during every damn football game, during pretty much every other commercial break.

Well here is a picture of Mr. Excitement, and I would just like to say that, despite Visa and the NFL’s best efforts, I think this guy is a miserable jackwagon.

Does the “Euro Blake Griffin” live up to the hype?

Earlier today, I was intrigued by this SI.com headline: ‘Euro Blake Griffin’ to enter NBA draft. The link takes you to a T&R post that excerpts the following from this SLAM Online article:

Jan Vesely says he’s in the Draft. The 6-11, 20-year-old told SLAM Magazine that he will “enter the 2011 NBA Draft” and that he’s “ready for the NBA after this season.” Vesely is spending time between the small and power forward spots for Partizan, though he says that he envisions himself as a “power forward” in the NBA. Donned “the European Blake Griffin” by many, he’s had no problem putting guys on posters and has more bounce than any true European in recent memory.

With the way Blake Griffin is dominating the NBA with his freakish athleticism, the unbridled power of his dunks, and his consistent onslaught of 20-10s, any player being compared to Griffin should pique the interest of basketball fans. And when it’s a skinny white dude from Europe – a continent not exactly known for producing Blake Griffin clones – the intrigue is even more acute.

So I went to YouTube to see Jan Vesely for myself and determine if there is any validity to the “Euro Blake Griffin” moniker. Before I tell you what I think, check him out for yourself.

Darko Milicic Scores in Own Basket, Bust Size Increases

Email Post Email Post

First let’s all look back to 2003…

The Pistons, despite being one of the elite teams in the NBA that season, had the 2nd pick in one of the most talent-loaded drafts in history thanks to a trade with the Vancouver (now Memphis) Grizzlies. The first pick was Lebron James and with the second pick the Pistons had their choice of Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh, Dwayne Wade, or some 7 footer from Serbia named Darko who nobody had ever heard of. The Pistons pulled the trigger on Darko, passing up 3 of the best players in the game for a player who has not averaged over 10 points a game in his 7 NBA seasons.

Well, now Darko plays for my Minnesota Timberwolves, making an absurd 5 million a year, to do this:
