McGahee likely done with Ravens

Email Post Email Post

Update: Baltimore Ravens running back Willis McGahee is unlikely to be back with the team next season unless he takes a "drastic" pay cut, according to the Carroll County Times.

Fantasy Impact:  McGahee is due $6 million next season and has 3 years remaining on his deal.  Ray Rice has clearly taken over the reigns in Baltimore so expect Willis to find work someplace else and at a much lower price.

Housh wants to be a Raven

Email Post Email Post

Update: Impending Ravens free agent T.J. Houshmandzadeh said he would like to be back with the team, but that he will also listen to offers from around the league.

Fantasy Impact:  Don't expect Housh back in Baltimore.  He caught just 30 balls all season and unless the team loses Derrick Mason to retirement, which is unlikely, Housh will be playing somewhere else.

Vote: Which of the four remaining QBs do you most want to see win Super Bowl XLV? [Updated w/ apology to Aaron Rodgers]

Email Post Email Post
fantasy-football-week-7-start-em-sit-em-ben-roethlisberger

Big Ben Roethlisberger. Aaron Rodgers. Mark Sanchez. Jay Cutler. By now you surely know that these are the four men who play the most important position for the NFL’s last four remaining teams.

Roethlisberger and his Steelers take on Sanchez’s Jets in the AFC Championship Game. Rodgers and the Packers travel to Soldier Field to face Cutler and the Bears in the NFC Championship Game.

Chances are, if you are not a Steelers, Jets, Packers, or Bears fan, your feelings about each team is in some way tied to your feelings about its quarterback. Such is the nature of the NFL, where winning and losing, love and hate, and interest or ambivalence so often is determined by who is calling the signals.

This post is for all of the people out there who, like me, no longer have a particular rooting interest anymore. If your favorite team is gone, and if your favorite players to root for who don’t play for your favorite team are gone, you need to find something to care about. And there is no better place to start than at the most important position in all of sports.

In this post, I’ll present the case for and against each of the four remaining quarterbacks, and then let you vote on which one you most want to see win Super Bowl XLV. It has to be one of them, and I imagine there are going to be a lot of people out there who will have some difficulty making the choice.

AFC Championship Game: New York Jets v Pittsburgh Steelers Point Spread, Over-Under, TV Info, Announcers

On Saturday, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Ben Roethlisberger did what we have come to expect them to do against the Baltimore Ravens: win. We got the tough, physical, close game we expected, but ultimately the Steelers were able to make the plays that the Ravens were not, and Big Ben remains alive for his third Super Bowl ring.

On Sunday, we most certainly did not get the game we expected. The New England Patriots, at home, looked out of sorts against the New York Jets. After all of the bluster and trash talk, the Jets actually backed it up and sent Tom Brady and Bill Belichick home long before we ever thought they’d be going home.

The Jets and Steelers played earlier this season, with the Jets saving their season by defeating Pittsburgh 22-17. Can the Jets, who are in the AFC Championship for the second straight year, pull off another upset?

The Green Bay Packers Storm Into the NFC Championship Game

Email Post Email Post

Powered by a razor sharp Aaron Rodgers and an opportunistic defense, the Green Bay Packers are heading to the NFC Championship.

Rodgers completed 31 of 36 passes for 366 yards and threw 3 TD passes. He was clearly in a zone, avoiding the rush when needed and completing 9-11 passes on third down.

Bettor’s Guide: NFL Playoffs Conference Championship Round Picks, Point Spreads, and Over-Under Odds

Email Post Email Post

Thanks to the Pack and the Steelers, I got off to a great 2-0 start on Saturday. Unfortunately, the Seahawks (who I at least thought would give the Bears a game) and the Patriots (who I thought would steamroll the Jets) let me down on Sunday. So for the second straight week, I was 2-2, bringing me to 4-4 thus far in the playoffs and 135-107-8 for the season.

My faith in the Packers continues to pay off. I have picked them the last two weeks, with supreme confidence, and they have come through both times. This week, however, the Packers are not a road dog; they are a road favorite. Can I be so bold as to pick them again?

Below you will find my pick for the epic Bears-Packers NFC Championship Game as well as the Steelers-Jets matchup in the AFC Championship Game.

For a sports blog focused on the Midwest, as we obviously are, there simply is not another conference championship matchup that could possibly measure up to the drama, intrigue, and history of this one.

The Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers have the longest-running rivalry in the NFL, but now the rivalry goes somewhere it has never gone before: deciding who will play in the Super Bowl.

I can’t wait. We’ll have plenty of previews and analysis coming for you this week, but here’s a quick and dirty look at all the basic information you need to know as you plan next Sunday.

Video: Now You See Troy Polamalu, Now You Don’t

The Bears are up 21-0 on the Seahawks and threatening to put the game away in the 2nd quarter – which is good, because I want to see a Packers-Bears NFC Title Game – so I am already searching elsewhere for entertainment.

Leave it to YouTube to provide some.

An observant and quick-thinking YouTuber named Boschee06 posted a very interesting 11 second video clip from yesterday’s Ravens-Steelers game. In the video, at first you see Steelers safety Troy Polamalu…and then you don’t.

Raji fine after tweaking knee

Email Post Email Post

Update: Packers tackle B.J. Raji appears to be fine after getting kneed in the head during Saturday's game, tweeted ESPN's Jason Wilde.

Fantasy Impact: Raji will be a key to next week's Conference Championship game as either the Bears or Seahawks figure to try and run on the Packers.

Tatupu will play

Update: According to Brian McIntyre, Seahwaks linebacker Lofa Tatupu is expected to play against the Bears on Sunday after passing his concussion test.

Fantasy Impact:  Inactives will come out about 90 minutes before gametime, but all signs point to him playing.

McDaniels could land with Rams

Update: According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Josh McDaniels is the leading candidate to land the Rams offensive coordinator position.

Fantasy Impact:  McDaniels was in St. Louis interviewing with the team on Saturday.  McDaniels is known for working with young QB's and he could very well help develop Sam Bradford into an elite NFL quarterback.
