Eagles Jackson, Samuel are questionable

Email Post Email Post

Update: Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer is reporting that Eagles coach Andy Reid said that Asante Samuel and Desean Jackson are both questionable for this weekend's game against the Giants. Both did practice today however and got the necessary reps they needed to get in.

Fantasy Impact: Jackson is supposed to play, especially after he practiced today. Samuel has been practicing for awhile now, but he has missed the past few weeks while recovering from his injury. If both are able to return Sunday, it will be a huge boost for the Eagles as this game may decide who goes to the playoffs and who doesn't.

Rodgers does not practice; doubtful

Email Post Email Post

Update: Greg Bedard of the Boston Globe is reporting that Green Bay QB Aaron Rodgers did not practice today at all. He apparently wasn't cleared to go through any drills. He is officially listed as doubtful for their contest against the Patriots.

Fantasy Impact: Rodgers, who suffered his 2nd concussion of the year, may miss his first game of the year this week. He was able to come back in time after his first concussion but the second one always takes more time. Green Bay is in trouble as they must win at least 2 of the last 3 and hope for losses from either Chicago or New York. We should know by tomorrow if Rodgers travels with the team or not.

Gates aiming to return if team makes it to playoffs

Email Post Email Post

Update: According to a report on NFL.com, Chargers TE Antonio Gates is aiming to return to the field by the time the playoffs come around in a few weeks. Gates has been battling foot/toe injuries the entire season. He has had to sit out of a few games the past few weeks and the report say he likely won't return until playoffs, if the Chargers even get there.

Fantasy Impact: Antonio Gates is a huge piece of the San Diego offense. However, San Diego proved it can go on without Gates in the lineup as it put up a big number on the 49ers last night. Vincent Jackson stepped up big time and they are going to need that type of production from him if Gates is going to miss the rest of the regular season.

Shanahan to bench McNabb in favor of Grossman

Email Post Email Post

Update: Team sources are reporting that Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan has benched quarterback Donovan McNabb in favor of Rex Grossman for this week’s game against the Cowboys. Redskin players are upset by the move, and many feel that offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan is using McNabb as a scapegoat. Players and members of the coaching staff have questioned the younger Shanahan’s credibility, according to NFL.com’s Jason LaCanfora. To quote one unidentified Redskin player: “The guys are extremely pissed.”

Fantasy Impact: This has been a disastrous year for the beginning of the Shanahan/McNabb era, and it further enforces the notion that had Shanahan not inherited John Elway and been fortunate to have Terrell Davis available to be drafted as a sixth-round pick in Denver, he would not have had the positive reputation that he enjoyed, at least prior to this season. Shanahan knew, when he took over in Washington, that the team was 4-12 last season and had issues in pretty much every area of the roster. Their offensive line is subpar, there are no consistent difference-makers at running back or wide receiver, their defense which was one of their few strong areas last year has struggled as Shanahan converted its base from a 4-3 to a 3-4 while lacking the personnel to make such a switch. Almost every player in burgundy and gold and coach, apparently aside from those with the last name Shanahan, respects what McNabb brings to the team and everything that he has accomplished in his twelve-year career. Two years have past since Rex Grossman left the Bears, but it must be noted what a great situation he was in that he was ultimately unable to take advantage of, though Chicago did reach Super Bowl XLI. The chances of McNabb and the Shanahan family being together next year are almost nonexistent, but if Washington does attempt to trade McNabb, they will have plenty of suitors. As for this Sunday, I would deem the chances of the Redskins winning in Dallas slim to none.

Polamalu not expected to play vs. Jets

Email Post Email Post

Update: The Pittsburgh Post-Gazzette is reporting that Steelers safety Troy Polamalu is not expected to play this week against the Jets, following a lower leg injury he suffered last week against the Bengals that prevented him from being able to practice Wednesday and Thursday.

Fantasy Impact: Last year, the Steelers went 5-6 in the 11 games that Polamalu missed and his absences were the main reason that Pittsburgh failed to reach the playoffs. Given this, the matchup advantages that the Jets’ receiving corps should have over the Steelers’ secondary, and factors like Santonio Holmes wanting to put on a show in his return to the Steel City should bode in the Jets’ favor. However, the past two weeks, the Jets’ offense has been absolutely dreadful, netting just nine points in eight quarters and failing to reach the end zone. Furthermore, second-year quarterback Mark Sanchez seems to be a rattled player of shaken confidence and Steelers defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau thrives on facing quarterbacks in this kind of state. Given that the game will be in Pittsburgh, the Steelers have a lot of momentum which the Jets don’t, and Ben Roethlisberger has always fared well against Rex Ryan-coached defenses, I put the advantage in Pittsburgh’s corner.

Fight or Flight: Who Had the Better Dunk – JR Smith or Blake Griffin?

jr-smith-blake-griffin-dunks-video

Last night, Denver’s JR Smith delivered what will undoubtedly be one of the top 5 dunks of the 2010 NBA season.

Dribbling the ball up the court, he exploded into the lane, took off from the dotted circle, and literally flew into and through San Antonio’s Gary Neal on his way to a marvelous two-hand jam. Smith’s spectacular jam caused Kevin Harlan to exclaim, “We just saw a man fly!”

And he was right.

However, as amazing as JR Smith’s aerial display was, and I’ve already watched it at least 10 times this morning, was it better than the back-to-back power slams that Blake Griffin delivered against the Knicks earlier this year?

Watch both videos and cast your vote.

Sugar Bowl Preview: THE Ohio State Buckeyes v Arkansas Razorbacks

Email Post Email Post

The Ohio State University has never played the Arkansas Razorbacks. So the most telling all-time record might be the Buckeyes 0-9 record versus any SEC opponent in their bowl game history. The last two of which were BCS Championship game blowout losses to Florida and LSU.

The Razorbacks are in the midst of an 8-game win streak with their only losses this season coming to SEC top dogs Alabama and Auburn. Besides a night game loss in Madison, Ohio State plowed through the Big Ten once again to gain a share of their sixth straight Big Ten title.

So what is going to happen when these two programs collide in what is sure to be an exciting game? Let’s look at the game data:

Jackson once again a fantasy stud

Email Post Email Post

Update: In just his second game this season following a lengthy contract holdout, Chargers wide receiver Vincent Jackson caught five passes for 112 yards and 3 TD’s, in a 34-7 romp of the 49ers, Thursday night in San Diego. “Since I’ve been here, it feels like I’ve never left,” said Jackson. Said quarterback Philip Rivers: “He seems to be in midseason form. I feel like he’s been here for 15 weeks. That’s a credit to the way he practices.”

Fantasy Impact: Jackson appears to be very fresh after missing such a bulk of the season, but Philip Rivers seems to still know exactly how to use him and his 6’5″ frame downfield. With games against the Bengals and Broncos left to close out the regular season, Jackson is a very viable option in leagues that last all seventeen weeks.

Chicago Blackhawks Are Reaching a Crucial Moment In Their Development

Monday night was a painful night for the Blackhawks’ defense. It was another reminder of how much worse this defense looks to the fans, coaches, and the players themselves. It’s becoming so bad that it’s starting to eat away at the team.

RB Jones-Drew misses second straight practice

Email Post Email Post

Update: NFL.com is reporting that Jacksonville Jaguars Rb Maurice Jones-Drew missed practice Thursday for the second straight day. He is being left out of practice for what has been labeled a "knee ailment." His status for next week is unknown.

Fantasy Impact: MJD is currently on a streak of six straight games with at least 100 yards rushing. He has a favorable matchup against the Indianapolis Colts next week and if the Jags win they will take their first AFV South title. He is a must-start if healthy.

RB Ivory misses practice

Update: CBSsports.com is reporting that New Orleans Saints RB Chris Ivory missed practice Thursday with a hamstring injury. Ivory practiced on a limited basis on Wednesday but was unable to do so again Thursday. His status for next week is still up in the air, although Ivory is optomistic about playing.

Fantasy Impact: Ivory has been outstanding this year filling in for RB Reggie Bush and RB Pierre Thomas while they were hurt. So much so that he still gets the majority of carries even though both players are back from injuries. If healthy he should be started in fantasy leagues next week.

WR Mason misses practice again

Email Post Email Post

Update: CBSsports.com is reporting that Baltimore Ravens WR Derrick Mason missed practice again Thursday for the second straight day with ankle injury. His status for next week against the New Orleans Saints is uncertain.

Fantasy Impact: Mason has been hot in his last few weeks, scoring five touchdowns in the past six games. As defenses are paying more attention to WR Anquan Boldin, Mason has been able to break out and put up numbers. If healthy, he should be considered a number two or three receiver in terms of fantasy.
