Colts expected to get RB Addai back

Email Post Email Post

Update: Nfl.com is reporting that Colts RB Joseph Addai is expected to play this week against the Raiders. Addai has missed the last eight weeks due to a shoulder injury. Addai participated fully in practice Wednesday.

Fantasy Impact: The Colts should be very lucky to be getting Addai back at all this season. It looked as if his season was lost because of how long his shoulder injury was taking to fully heal. The Colts get their #1 RB back for an important game against the Raiders. Every game is a must win now for the Colts and it helps to have Addai back. He should get the bulk of the carries along with Donald Brown subbing in on 3rd downs.

Renardo Sidney – Aloha Means “Get Out of Here”

Email Post Email Post

After waiting for more than a year to finally get clearance from the NCAA and his own school, it appeared that highly touted recruit Renardo Sidney had finally made his first dividend for Mississippi State University, scoring 19 points in 20 minutes in the Bulldogs 69-52 win over the San Diego Toreros in the Diamond Head Classic being held on the campus of the University of Hawaii.

But those are not the highlights you are going to see of Sidney today.

However, you will definitely see this…

Why Seeing a Blackhawks Game is Still One of the Best Experiences for a Chicago Sports Fan

Email Post Email Post

Yesterday, I had the privilege to go the Chicago/Nashville game last night at the United Center. It was the first, and hopefully not the last, game I’ve been to this year.

As a big Blackhawk fan I’d love to go to more games, but, as some of you might know, tickets are pretty expensive. Not coming from a rich family, far from it, seeing a Blackhawks game is a special privilege.

New York Jets-Chicago Bears Preview and Prediction

Email Post Email Post

After dominating the Minnesota Vikings on Monday Night Football to clinch the NFC North, the Chicago Bears (10-4) come back to Chicago to play the playoff-hungry New York Jets (10-4).

The Bears are looking very dangerous, but a Jets team that would clinch a playoff spot if they beat the Bears Sunday should make this game a total toss-up that will be fun to watch.

For a game that should be as good as this one looks to be, there’s only one significant change that could be made playoff positioning-wise for these teams, or so says our old friend, the ESPN Playoff Machine.

The Falcons have such a stranglehold on the rest of the NFC that the only way they won’t be the conference’s number one seed is to lose Monday night and in the final week at home against Carolina. If this happened, the Saints would still have to defeat those plunderers of the close loss (or is it more apt to say they steal victories from themselves? I don’t know.), the Buccaneers, in New Orleans to take over the number one seed spot.

Shanahan to welcome McNabb back next year if willing to be backup

Email Post Email Post

Update: The Washington Post is reporting that Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan said Wednesday that he would welcome quarterback Donovan McNabb back next year if McNabb is willing to return as a backup. “But I’m not sure he would, which I would understand,” Shanahan said. “But I think that’s why we’re talking about hypothetical situations. I don’t think that would happen. But if he was interested in that, obviously, that would be a possibility.”

Fantasy Impact: There is no way that a player of McNabb’s stature, regardless of how rough a season this has been, would be willing to go into the 2011 season expecting to be a backup. When the trade with the Eagles that brought McNabb to the nation’s capital was made last April, it was believed that Shanahan would be more flexible than Eagles head coach Andy Reid had been with the parameters of his offense to fit his quarterback’s strengths. While Reid was often criticized for trying to put a square peg in a round hole; i.e. trying too hard to make McNabb a typical West Coast pocket passer when the offense should have accentuated Supa 5′s athleticism, arm strength, and relied less on his accuracy, which has long been less than ideal; Shanahan seemed to pigeon-hole the six-time Pro Bowler even further, and to make matters worse has been the poor offensive line play, lack of playmakers at the skill positions, and underachieving defense. I see this predicament being similar to what Brett Favre went through in the late 2000′s; Favre had a very good year in his last season with the Packers, had one subpar year with the Jets in a system that didn’t suit him well, and then became a Viking, where he had probably the best season of his career. I’m not saying that McNabb will have a career season next year, but there are plenty of potential destinations where offensive-minded head coaches could use a steady signal-caller and that could give McNabb more to work with than he had in Washington this year. This includes the Vikings, depending on who their head coach is next year; the Cardinals, who are desperate for an upgrade at the quarterback position and would give McNabb an elite playmaker to throw to in Larry Fitzgerald, not to mention the house McNabb owns in Arizona; or the Raiders if they don’t feel that Jason Campbell or Bruce Gradkowski is the answer at the end of the season, to name a few.

I would say that as far as good friends go – you know, the people that at the least I’m regularly calling, texting or posting stupid stuff on Facebook walls, the folks I see just about every weekend when it’s possible – the group I’m associated with knows one another pretty well. I realize this probably isn’t some social phenomenon, that there’s indeed more than a few close-knit circles of friends in the world, but hey, re-check that matchup up there.

Anyway, if you think of your friends, you can probably think up various ways that this line, courtesy of the absolutely wonderful Creed Bratton of “The Office,” can be successfully applied to a characteristic, quirk or behavior of someone with whom you’ve spent a decent amount of time. Because all of your friends are bigger weirdos than you, yes? Yes.

Is Dirk On His Way to a 2nd MVP Award?

Email Post Email Post

Is it time again for the German version of Michael Jordan to claim an award that he should’ve won possibly three times before?

Perhaps.

Dirk Nowitzki is the best international player to have ever entered the NBA.. Ever! Yet, the seven footer has never won an MVP award. Yes, he’s been in multiple 3-point competitions, and he’s been on the All-Star roster nearly every year, but we’ve never truly recognized Dirk for what he is: an MVP caliber player, who comes through season after season for the Mavericks, but yet, we continue to downplay his talent and importance.

Will we give him what he has deserved for more than year?

The NBA Morning After: The Style’s in the Substance Edition

Email Post Email Post

The Morning After is a look at the night that was in the NBA along with other NBA-related fodder.

– Playing in the second game of a month or so stretch without team enzyme Brandon Jennings, the Milwaukee Bucks caught the Los Angeles Lakers looking under the Christmas tree and executed to perfection the chafing kind of game that really, they always must play to be effective, but even more-so now, and especially last night, with only ten players suited up. Ten players, and poor Brian Skinner still didn’t get any burn.

Are We Writing Off San Antonio Too Soon Again?

Email Post Email Post
manu-ginobili-tony-parker-tim-duncan

Year after year, the Los Angeles Lakers seem to be the only team anyone thinks is coming out of the West.

Things haven’t changed, as the hype continues to surround Pau, Phil, and Kobe’s chase for a 6th ring, which would tie him with the greatest of all-time. But does all of this hype truly deserve to be there? Sure, the Lakers are one of the NBA’s better teams, but there is another team out West who wants to be heard as well.

And that team is the San Antonio Spurs, who at the moment, have a better record than the yellow and purple.

So again, even though this happens every year, why does the media - and we NBA fans – continue to write off San Antonio each year?

Ranking The Top 10 Documentaries in ESPN’s 30 for 30 Series

What if I told you . . .

Those four words tell you all you need to know. Those four words have been the opening sequence for one the best documentary film series of all time.

ESPN’s 30 for 30 is a documentary film series in which filmmakers take a look back at some of the biggest events in sports over the past 30 years.

I have enjoyed just about every 30 or 30 film, and it’s not going to be easy limiting this list to only ten entries, but enough chit-chat; let’s start the list.

Congratulations Devin Hester, and Thank You.

Email Post Email Post
devin-hester-record-returns

Either Matt Millen or Steve Young said something last night during the MNF post-game show that was actually astute. (I know, shocking right?) I don’t remember which one it was, but one of them said that Devin Hester is one of the ten transcendent athletes that fans and other great athletes alike will stop and watch. Millen/Young then went onto explain that part of what makes Hester such a surreal talent is how easy he makes what he does look.

And what is it that Devin Hester does? Well, he returns kicks better than anyone in the history of football. If you don’t believe me, just look at the numbers: Hester has 14 combined kickoff and punt return TDs…and this is only his 5th season in the NFL! The guy whose record he broke last night – Brian Mitchell – played in the NFL three times as long.

But what I learned while watching Devin Hester’s press conference last night is that his sublime talent and peerless return ability are not the most impressive traits about him. What makes Hester even more special than you might realize is his incredible humility. You will after you watch this video.
