No setback for RB Torain

Email Post Email Post

Update: CBSsports.com is reporting that Washington Redskins RB Ryan Torain practiced in full Thursday with no setbacks. Torain has been suffering from a hamstring injury that has kept him out for the past several weeks. Barring any setbacks on Friday, he should be able to play again next week.

Fantasy Impact: The Redskins have been struggling to run the ball since Torain got hurt and they need him back badly. If he does return, he will have a favorable matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Monitor his status closely over the weekend and if he does play he should be in all starting lineups.

TE Miller still missing from practice

Email Post Email Post

Update: CBSsports.com is reporting that Pittsburgh Steelers TE Heathe Miller missed practice again Thursday with a concussion sustained in week 13 against the Baltimore Ravens. He still hasn't been officially declared out for next week.

Fantasy Impact: Most players that suffer concussions sit at least one week, so Miller will probably do the same. It looks like his chances of playing are very slim, so look for tight end help elsewhere this week.

RB Bradshaw back at practice

Email Post Email Post

Update: CBSsports.com is reporting that New York Giants RB Ahmad Bradshaw returned to practice Thursday after sitting Wednesday with an wrist injury. The Giants play the Minnesota Vikings in week 14, who rank fourth in the NFL against the run.

Fantasy Impact: Bradshaw's injury wasn't serious and should be able to go next week. However, the Vikings are stiff against the run and Bradshaw only has 70 yards rushing with no touchdowns against them. Owners might want to look for running back help elsewhere this week.

Bucs WR Williams sits Thursday

Email Post Email Post

Update: CBSsports.com is reporting that Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Mike Williams was held out of practice Thursday with a sore knee. Williams has been fighting the injury for the past couple weeks according to Head Coach Raheem Morris. He hasn't missed any playing time due to the injury.

Fantasy Impact: Williams hasn't had a 100-yard receiving game since week eight, but he ahs found the endzone in four the past six games. He has a favorable matchup against the Washington Redskins next week so if healthy he should be in fantasy starting lineups.

TE Gonzalez returns to practice

Email Post Email Post

Update: CBSsports.com is reporting that Altanta Falcons TE Tony Gonzalez returned to practice Thursday after sitting out Wednesday with an ankle injury. Gonzalez suffered the injury last week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Fantasy Impact: Gonzalez hasn't put up oustanding numbers this season but he is still a top tight end in the NFL. With injuries to top tight ends like Jermichael Finley and Dallas Clark, Gonzalez is still a good fantasy option. Keep him in starting lineups as it looks like he will play next week.

Peyton Manning vs. Tom Brady: The Truth

Email Post Email Post

In lieu of all the “Brady is better than Manning” arguments that have been hitting the internet the last few days, I felt that my favorite player of all time needed someone to have his back.

Yes, I understand that I JUST wrote an article talking about how Peyton’s best may be behind him. Obviously, this looks like an egregious example of hypocrisy on my part. My response? I don’t really have a good one. Although, for all you know, I did my best at constructing an elaborate reverse-jinx to snap Manning out of his current funk.

Please understand that in no way, shape, or form do I think the Colts should trade Manning. I still believe he can be the best QB in the league if he has some help. All I meant was that he is no longer able to do it by himself. Last year, Chris Berman joked that Manning was having his best year, and he was throwing to a waiter, a dog, and a color (Garçon, Collie, and Brown). I don’t think Peyton is still able to do that.

Let’s just pretend he is at the Kevin Garnett circa 2008 part of his career. 2005 KG was clearly better than 2008 KG, but when you finally gave 2008 KG some help, he was the best PF in the league that year. Remember, Favre still had two INCREDIBLE seasons after he turned 34…but he just wasn’t consistently as brilliant. And he needed guys like Adrian Peterson to help him out.

Regardless, as unbelievable as this sounds, the 4-time MVP actually needs someone to stand up for him. I’m here to do it.

Hey Bob Lamey and everyone else doubting Peyton Manning: shut up and show him the respect he has earned.

Email Post Email Post

I have watched with great surprise and consternation over the past few weeks as criticism – almost all of it unjust and unnecessary – has been heaped upon one of the greatest players in the history of the toughest position in sports.

If you follow me on Twitter, you finally saw it spill out last night in a series of tweets supporting the great Peyton Manning and castigating those of you with the foolish audacity to criticize him because he’s had a rough three game stretch.

The catalyst for my Twitter rant was reading this article about the idiotic comments that Colts radio voice Bob Lamey made about Manning. The comments were made off-air, but were picked up by a hot microphone. Here is the jist, as summarized by Florio at Pro Football Talk:

Our friends at StampedeBlue.com explain the comments of Bob Lamey, who reportedly said that NFL defenses had “figured Manning out,” that he should be benched for Curtis Painter, and that the Colts should draft Manning’s replacement in 2011.

When I saw this, my first instinct was to let out a giant guffaw and just move on. I mean, these comments are so ludicrous and so unbelievably insane that I was wondering for a minute if PFT had been taken over by writers for The Onion. Peyton Manning should be benched? For Curtis f’ing Painter? Seriously?

Here’s the thing: comments like this would be a little bit easier to accept if it was just from a frustrated rogue fan who’d knocked back a few too many Keystone Lights while watching Peyton toss away the Colts to chances to win last Sunday. That I could deal with. As sports fans we all get caught up in the heat of the moment and sometimes say things we don’t mean. But these comments by Lamey were not that. They were a premeditated manifestation of ideas he’s clearly ruminated about for a while now, at least the last three weeks. Pondering is one thing, but actually considering them enough to speak them out loud in any public setting is another.

And, as I tweeted last night, sadly Lamey is not a rogue voice. He actually speaks for a lot of fair-weather, what-have-you-done-for-me-lately Colts fans, which is perhaps the most disgusting and pathetic aspect of this entire story.

Thursday Night Football Preview and Prediction: Indianapolis Colts (6-6) at Tennessee Titans (5-7)

Email Post Email Post

It’s interesting to think that by the second Friday in December, the Indianapolis Colts could be effectively out of the playoffs.

That’s putting a little faith in the Jacksonville Jaguars, I realize, but the fact that it’s plausible is still pretty surprising. Especially given the quality of this division, which is akin to the quality of Milwaukee Special Reserve – without question, the worst beer I have ever forced myself to drink 30 cans worth of.

The Morning After is a look at the night that was in the NBA along with other NBA-related fodder.

WR Harvin misses practice again

Email Post Email Post

Update: CBSsports.com is reporting that Minnesota Vikings WR Percy Harvin misses practice again Wednesday with migraine headaches. Reports on Monda said that the migraines had subsided. Harvin has had numerous problems with the migraines all season long.

Fantasy Impact: So far Harvin hasn't missed any playing time, but migraines are very hard to predict. Keep an eye on him throughout the week and if healthy he should be considered a low number two or high number three receiver in terms of fantasy.

WR Marshall back at practice

Email Post Email Post

Update: CBSsports.com is reporting that Miami Dolphins WR Brandon Marshall returned to practice Wednesday after missing some time with a hamstring injury. Marshall is the team's leading receiver in receptions and receiving yards.

Fantasy Impact: Marshall hasn't lived up to expectation this year, and this injury doesn't help. He still hasn't been cleared to play, but even if he does it isn't wise to start him against the New York Jets defense. CB Darrelle Revis will most likely shut him down.

RB Thomas practices in full

Email Post Email Post

Update: CBSsports.com is reporting that New Orleans Saints RB Pierre Thomas practiced in full Wednesday. Thomas has missed much of the season with a nagging ankle injury. No statement has been made regarding the possibility of him playing next week.

Fantasy Impact: Even if Thomas does play this week it probably isn't a good idea to start him. RB Chris Ivory has five touchdowns in the past three games and will most likely get the majority of the carries. Keep him on the bench for this week.

Cards haven’t named starting QB

Email Post Email Post

Update: ESPN.com is reporting that Arizona Cardinals Head Coach Ken Whisenhunt still hasn't named the team's starting quarterback for next week. The two options are rookie QB John Skelton and newly signed QB Richard Bartel, both of which took first team reps at practice. QB Derek Anderson is still recovering from a concussion and QB Max Hall is on injured reserve with a shoulder injury.

Fantasy Impact: The Cardinals quarterback situation is the primary reason for their offensive problems this season. No Cardinals quarterback is worth anything in terms of fantasy and owners of Cardinals receivers may want to think about benching them this week as well.
