Lions place WR Williams on IR

Email Post Email Post

Update: CBSsports.com is reporting that the Detroit Lions have placed WR Derrick Williams (ankle) on injured reserve, ending his season. He was replaced on the roster by WR Brian Clark.

Fantasy Impact: Williams was primarily a special teams player as he only had three catches for 30 yards on the season. He shouldn't have been on any fantasy rosters in the first place so this can be ignored.

Favre participates in very limited practice

Email Post Email Post

Update: NFL.com is reporting that Vikings QB Brett Favre participated very limitedly in today's practice. Favre had not practiced since spraining his throwing shoulder in last week's game. His status for this weekend should be a true game time decision.

Fantasy Impact: Favre took only a couple snaps during practice, but never threw the ball in drills. He lightly tossed some warmup balls and handed off with his left hand for drills. It's a step in the right direction for Favre. At least he's back on the field. We all know how tough and competitive Favre is, so it's hard to see him not try his best to be out on the field Sunday.

TE Gresham misses practice all week

Email Post Email Post

Update: CBSsports.com is reporting that Cincinnati Bengals TE Jermaine Gresham missed practice all week for personal reasons. Reports suggest that it's probably a death in his family.

Fantasy Impact: Since Gresham didn't practice for a full week it's likely that his role will be reduced Sunday. The Bengals play the Steelers which isn't a good matchup for him anyways. It's wise to look for tight end help elsewhere this week as he probably won't put up good fantasy numbers.

Williams and Johnson practice today for Texans

Email Post Email Post

Update: Nick Scurfield of HoustonTexans.com is reporting that WR Andre Johnson and DE Mario Williams returned to practice today. Johnson sat out Wednesday with a sore ankle and Williams has a sports hernia injury. Coach Gary Kubiak said that "they'll be fine" for Monday Night's game against the Ravens.

Fantasy Impact: Mario Williams is a force up front against any OL. He leads the team in sacks with nine. The next player only has three. Johnson also leads the team in receptions and yards by a large amount. Both are arguably the best at their positions in the entire NFL. Coach Kubiak expects both to be ready Monday so start both if you play defensive players as well.

WR Nicks practicing with starters

Email Post Email Post

Update: CBSsports.com is reporting that New York Giants WR practiced today as the starting receiver in drills against the scout team. Nicks has missed the past two games with a leg injury. His status is expected to be determined Saturday.

Fantasy Impact: It looks like Nicks will be able to play next week. However, keep a close eye on him over the weekend and make sure he's healthy before starting him. If he is healthy, he should be considered a number two fantasy receiver.

The NBA Morning After: Gifts That Keep On Giving Edition

Email Post Email Post

The Morning After is a look at the night that was in the NBA along with other NBA-related fodder.

The mood in Philadelphia changed from sunny to rather murky in around 6.6 seconds when, following a go-ahead Andre Iguodala running layup, Rajon Rondo zipped a perfect inbound lob to Kevin Garnett, who banked home the winning bucket with about a second left to play. The real surprising part to me is that there wasn’t more yelling after all of this.

Cassel sits out practice today

Email Post Email Post

Update: Rotoworld.com is reporting that Chiefs QB Matt Cassel is not practicing today. Cassel hasn't practiced all week after he had an appendectomy Wednesday.

Fantasy Impact: The Chiefs won't commit to a starter this week, but all signs lead to Cassel not being ready to play Sunday. He is sitting out today's practice and Brodie Croyle is taking snaps in practice. It looks like Croyle will get his first start and first action of the year Sunday against the Chargers in a big AFC West game for both teams. The Chargers caught a huge break.

Report: Asante Samuel will be back

Email Post Email Post

Update: According to Rotoworld.com, Eagles CB Asante Samuel should play this Sunday against the Cowboys. Samuel practiced Wednesday, but sat out yerterday's practice raising concerns. Samuel has sat out the past two games with a knee injury.

Fantasy Impact: The Eagles have given up 55 points in the last two games without Samuel. The Eagles will catch a break this week now with Cowboys WR Dez Bryant out for the year after breaking his ankle. The Eagles are going to need Samuel back on the field in order to make their playoff push. Samuel brings average coverage skills to the field, but is a playmaker and leads the team in INTs.

Manning, Colts end 3 game skid with win over Titans

Email Post Email Post

Update: Peyton Manning was back to his old self last night as the Colts defeated the Titans 30-28 and kept Indy's playoff hopes alive. Manning threw for 319 yards and 2 TDs while throwing 0 picks.

Fantasy Impact: Manning and the Colts had been struggling the past three games, but this performance put the others to rest. The Colts looked like their old selves, and Manning especially looked like the usual Peyton Manning. Manning threw 11 (yes 11) picks in his previous 3 games. The Colts could now very much win out with their final three games against Jacksonville, Oakland, and Tennessee.

Vikings Favre misses practice again

Email Post Email Post

Update: According to Nfl.com, Vikings QB Brett Favre missed practice again Thursday. Favre was supposed to practice and test his sprained right shoulder, but instead was on the sidelines. He will be a game time decision on Sunday for the Vikes matchup against the Giants.

Fantasy Impact: The plan is to get Favre on the field today to see how his shoulder has progressed. If he sits out again today, his chances of going are that much slimmer. I would not start Favre unless you are desperate for a starter. He may not even start and fans have been calling for Favre's benching as well. Tavaris Jackson filled in last week nicely after Favre went down on his first pass of the game.

NFL Week 14 Injury Updates

Patriots-Bears Injury Updates

Tom Brady is on the injury report with an injured right shoulder. This is definitely something to be worried about, and you should definitely sit Brady*.

* – if you sit Tom Brady after how well he’s been playing lately, unless you have a truly elite alternative (i.e. Rodgers, Vick, Brees, Rivers) I will find you and slap you silly. Tom Brady is always on the injury report as probable.

The only significant Bears injury is backup running back Chester Taylor. He has a knee issue, but practiced Thursday and should be fine.

Andre Johnson sits practice to rest ankle

Email Post Email Post

Update: CBSsports.com is reporting that Houston Texans WR Andre Johnson sat out of practice Thursday while he continues to rest his ankle. Johnson originally injured the ankle in week two and aggravated it again in week 13. He has only missed one game due to the injury.

Fantasy Impact: This is most likely a precautionary measure so he doesn't injure the ankle further in practice. Still, monitor his status closely over the weekend and if healthy he is a must-start receiver in all fantasy leagues.
