Tom Brady questionable for Thursday

Email Post Email Post

Update: CBSsports.com is reporting that New England Patriots QB Tom Brady has been listed as questionable on the team's injury report for the team's game on Thanksgiving Day against the Detroit Lions. Brady missed practice Wednesday for the second straight day with foot and shoulder injuries. However, ESPN's John Clayton said that he expects Brady to play.

Fantasy Impact: Brady will most likely play through the pain, but that doesn't mean this injury isn't threatening his playing time. Keep a close eye on him up until gametime and keep him in fantasy starting lineups unless it has been determined that he won't play.

Saints optimistic Bush will play Thursday

Email Post Email Post

Update: ESPN.com is reporting that the New Orleans Saints are optimistic that RB Reggie Bush will be able to play Thursday against the Dallas Cowboys. Bush has missed eight games due to a broken right leg and is listed as questionable after limited practice this week.

Fantasy Impact: The Saints have suffered in their run game in the absence of Bush and RB Pierre Thomas who are both hurt. Bush's presence on the field should open up the passing game and allow the Saints to get back to playing the way the did on their way to a Super Bowl victory last season. In terms of fantasy, keep a close eye on him and if heis going to start, consider him a number two back.

QB Delhomme to start for Browns

Email Post Email Post

Update: ESPN.com is reporting that Cleveland Browns QB Jake Delhomme will start ahead of injured QB Colt McCoy. McCoy is suffering from an ankle sprain and will not be able to play on Sunday. McCoy is the third Browns quarterback to go down with an ankle sprain this season.

Fantasy Impact: McCoy was shining as the Browns starter before going down with the ankle injury. Delhomme was the starter at the beginning of the season, however, so the performance at quarterback shouldn't change too drastically. Still, stay away from Delhomme in all fantasy leagues.

Clinton Portis placed on IR

Email Post Email Post

Update: ESPN.com is reporting that Washington Redskins RB Clinton Portis has been placed on injured reserve, ending his season. Portis re-aggravated a groin injury that kept him out several weeks, and it was severe enough to make Washington end his season early for the second straight year.

Fantasy Impact: This move may signal the end of Portis's career in Washington. The 29 year-old running back is only 77 rushing yards shy of 10,000 for his career. Obviously, drop him in all fantasy leagues.

Coughlin to start Jacobs over Bradshaw

Email Post Email Post

Update: Giants head coach Tom Coughlin announced Wednesday that Brandon Jacobs will replace Ahmad Bradshaw as New York’s starting running back. The Newark Star-Ledger is reporting that Coughlin said: “The No.1 consideration is to try to stop beating ourselves. That’s one area we should be able to improve. It’s very frustrating not to improve in that area.” Bradshaw’s six fumbles this season, including a key one Sunday night in Philadelphia, were clearly the main factor in Coughlin’s decision. Bradshaw was not at all happy with the news to which Coughlin responded, “He’s going to fight his way through it. Why it would be a total surprise to anyone is beyond me.” As for the newly re-appointed starting running back, Jacobs, the head coach commented, “Brandon has been running the ball (well). It’s basically been almost like a 2-to-1 deal. Both guys have gotten lots of carries.”

Fantasy Impact: Turnovers have plagued the Giants throughout the year, and Coughlin made his growing lack of patience with the issue known before this past Sunday night’s game. With the five costly turnovers that wasted a stout defensive effort in Philadelphia en route to a second straight loss, a significant change was almost inevitable. Bradshaw has over 1,000 total yards this season and is averaging 4.7 yards per carry, but his propensity for coughing up the ball has deflated the team at the most crucial moments. The job was originally Jacobs’ before Bradshaw outperformed Jacobs in offseason workouts and preseason, so the starting job is by no means etched in stone to be Jacobs’. Bradshaw will still get a solid number of touches, so whichever back proves to be more dependable and capable of making Eli Manning and the coaching staff’s job easier will be the main guy in the Big Blue backfield.

My little brother does a lot of things that make me proud of him.

Among many: he’s battled back from three – yes three – ACL tears in his knees; he gave a lot of his time in high school, and still does when he’s home, to our family’s little brother in the Big Brother/Big Sister program; he does well academically and will someday be an outstanding physical therapist; he’s a ridiculously awesome gamer (though we debate whether that’s a good use of his time or not…); he has impressive game with the ladies; and many more.

But I’m not sure I’ve ever been as proud of him as I was last night when he sent me a few pictures from his foray into the Land of Mediocrity: West Lafayette, Indiana.

In addition to occasionally posting about sports, I consider one of my most important duties as the editor of this here sporty blog to be finding and sharing the hottest, the funniest, the most clever, and even the most bizarre content from around the Interwebs.

I find a lot of it throughout the day because of what I do, and I know that many of you don’t have time to putz around the Internet like I do. So I like to think that part of the value I offer is direction your attention to interesting content here or on Twitter, serving as something of a filter for the maelstrom of content available with the click of a mouse.

With that said, today I want to direct your attention to one of the most clever sites out there, in case you aren’t already a fan. The is called The Oatmeal.

Chicago Blackhawks Need to Find Consistency by the End of The Road Trip

Email Post Email Post

A 2-1 record after three games of the infamous six-game “circus” trip gives the Blackhawks momentum heading into Wednesday’s game against San Jose. Unfortunately they’ve failed all season, and during this road trip, to find the consistency that could get them out of the .500 bubble they are in right now.

A shut-out win in Edmonton was followed by a 7-2 loss in Calgary, and that was followed by a 7-1 win in Vancouver.

Where’s the consistency?

Frankly, there isn’t any.

NFL Thanksgiving Day Preview: Predictions, Spread Picks, Breakdowns of the Halftime Entertaiment

This post is from 2010!

If you accidentally landed here, click to view all of our 2011 Thanksgiving Day content, including the Thanksgiving Day Football Schedule.

When it comes to Thanksgiving, I don’t think the sheer awesomeness of the day can be overstated.

No day with a possible routine like this could be: Wake up, football, eat, football, beer, football, eat, beer, beer, football, beer, unconsciousness, beer, football, eat, beer.

That could be the whole day and no one can shoot you disapproving looks about it.

There are no silly annoyances like showers or nice clothes or healthy, portion-controlled dieting. Just gorging on food and beer until one literally cannot move, followed by the catching of one’s breath, and by that time it’s only around 6 o’clock, meaning the whole night is still on the horizon, provided you can be anything but horizontal.

What a great day to remember that life can be very, very awesome.

This Thanksgiving, we actually have some pretty decent football games to watch between naps. Let’s have a look at them.

Red Alert for South Beach

Email Post Email Post
lebron-wade-heat

Well, this is not anything remotely close to what most of us expected. Yes, there are the haters, and those who didn’t appreciate LeBron’s “Decision” this summer, those who have been saying the Heat will flat out suck.

Well, here’s the thing: Those haters just might be right.

This Miami team has flat-out stunk. With a poor 8-6 record, and a lack of big man play, point guard leadership, and a lack of chemistry, the bold predictions of passing the 72-10 Bulls are nearly impossible mathematically at this moment.

I mean, sure, asking these guys to do that was a bit much to begin with, but they can still make the playoffs and contend for a title, right?

Doesn’t seem that way, thus resulting in the reason why these Heat are now officially on my “Red Alert”.
