Ochocinco unable to practice

Email Post Email Post

Update: CBSsports.com is reporting that Cincinatti Bengals WR Chad Ochocinco missed practice Thursday with a shoulder injury. Ochocinco said on Wednesday that he was in serious pain. The veteran wideout still managed to finish the game last week after being injured.

Fantasy Impact: It's still unclear whether or not he will play next week, but it doesn't look good. However, he did play through the injury which is a good sign. Monitor his status throughout the weekend to see if he is able to go in week 11.

Tom Brady limited at practice, will play

Update: ESPN.com is reporting that New England Patriots QB Tom Brady was limited in practice Thursday with a foot injury. Brady has been dealing with the injury for over a week and it didn't stop him from playing last week against the Pittsburgh Steelers. It is believed that he will play on Sunday.

Fantasy Impact: Brady is without a doubt going to be ready to play against the Indianapolis Colts. He is also set to have a field day against a banged up Colts defense. As usual, Brady should be in all starting lineups in all fantasy leagues.

QB St. Pierre to start for Panthers

Email Post Email Post

Update: ESPN.com is reporting that QB Brian St. Pierre will start for the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. Starting QB Matt Moore suffered a season-ending shoulder injury and second string QB Jimmy Clausen are both suffering from concussions. St. Pierre has thrown just five passes in eight season in the NFL.

Fantasy Impact: This news comes a surprise considering rookie QB Tony Pike was expected to get the start. However, Carolina is 1-8 and is desperate for some wins. St. Pierre might be the better option, but don't expect him to put up good numbers or be a long-term solution to the Panthers offensive problems.

QB Schaub practices, likely to play next week

Email Post Email Post

Update: ESPN.com is reporting that Houston Texans QB Matt Schaub practiced Thursday and is likely to play against the New York Jets on Sunday. Schaub was recently hospitalized with a knee injury. ESPN says that the only way Schaub won't play Sunday is if he has a setback sometime before the game.

Fantasy Impact: Schaub, along with WR Andre Johnson, has been the foundation of the Texans offense for a few years now. He is needed on the field if the Texans want any chance of beating the Jets. Keep him in starting fantasy lineups and monitor his status over the weekend.

I was fastidiously going about my work this morning when I took a quick glance over at Twitter at had my focus jolted by this tweet from the guy all IU basketball fans know as Peegs:

Former Hoosier favorite A.J. Moye has suffered a stroke. Prayers out to him and his family: http://bit.ly/dngcWp

Unfortunately, the account of Moye’s stroke and the latest news from the website of his German professional team is not particularly encouraging.

Update: Since posting this, I saw the following tweet from Indy radio personality JMV. Halelujah.

from reps of former IU player AJ Moye in Germany. After suffering a stroke he is doing well and full recovery is expected.

A Letter to LeBron – About your Game

Lebron-James-Miami-Heat

Dear LeBron,

You are hated like never before. For the first time in your life, people are criticizing you. Old fans have transformed into haters, and your old home has transformed into enemy territory.

Of course, you don’t understand it. You have never been at fault for anything in your life, so why would that change now? Haters will be haters. Cleveland will be Cleveland. It doesn’t matter if people like you right now. They will all come back, as long as you win your rings…right?

Well, the charade is over.

No Surgery For Stafford

Email Post Email Post

Update: Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford has opted out of surgery on his right shoulder, the AP reports. Stafford visited Dr. James Andrews on Monday. He hopes to play again at some point this season.

Fantasy Impact: When he has been on the field, Stafford has been very effective. But the problem is, he hasn't been on the field all that much. He has played in just 3 games and has thrown for 535 yards, 6 touchdowns, and just 1 interception. If Stafford does play again this season, it will be in a meaningless game with nothing on the line for the Lions except for draft position. It would be best for him to sit out the remainder of the year and not risk further injury. The Lions need him to be completely healthy come 2011.

Schaub Hospitalized

Email Post Email Post

Update: The Houston Texans official website reports that QB Matt Schaub was hospitalized on Tuesday with a bursa sac issue in his knee. Schaub is expected to rejoin the team sometime today, but his status for this weekend is unknown at this point.

Fantasy Impact: With a poor defense, the Texans offense carries a lot of pressure to put up a bunch of points. But without Schaub, they would have a very hard time doing so. Through 9 games Schaub has passed for 2,320 yards, 12 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions. If he was to miss this week's game, the Texans offense would be significantly less effective.

Allen Iverson – 15 points – First game for some nameless team in Europe

As I read the ticker on ESPN tonight, I got to thinking.

What is it about someone that makes him a legend?

Sometimes, it’s a specific play — ask Doug Flutie.  Other guys have legendary numbers — Gretzky, Aaron, Kareem.  A select few had a skill set that transcended the sport — think, Dr. J on the basketball court, or Barry Sanders on the gridiron.

The greatest of all time usually combine two of those, or even all three.

For some reason, in basketball, one thing trumps everything else, and without it, you will never be considered one of the GOATs.  Maybe your game was transcendent, or maybe you had unreal stats.  But the fact remains — without the rings, you are not a legend.  You can’t be.  It’s simply not allowed.

Nate Allen Back At Practice

Email Post Email Post

Update: The Philadelphia Eagles official website reports that FS Nate Allen returned to practice today. Allen missed the Monday Night game against the Redskins with a neck sprain. It is unknown at this point if he will play this week.

Fantasy Impact: As a rookie, Allen has had a very good season thus far. He has started all 8 games he has played in, and has recorded 34 tackles, 1 sack, and 3 interceptions. He has shown so far to be a play-maker in the secondary, and the Eagles defense will certainly welcome him back.

Spiller Ruled Out This Week

Email Post Email Post

Update: The Buffalo Bills have ruled out rookie RB C.J. Spiller for this weekend's game against the Bengals, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. Spiller is bothered by a hamstring injury.

Fantasy Impact: After being picked early in the first round in April's draft, Spiller has been somewhat of a disappointment on the field. He has rushed for 164 yards and has 81 receiving yards. He has one receiving touchdown. If and when Spiller does return to the Bills lineup, fantasy players should not expect much from him. It looks like Fred Jackson is going to receive the majority of the touches out of the backfield, making Spiller a bad play in fantasy.
