Update: With 299 total yards and 4 TD’s over his past two games, Fred Jackson has become a very viable fantasy RB option out of Buffalo. What’s more telling is that these past two games have been the only wins for the Bills this season, which suggests that head coach Chan Gailey will not want to stray from what works.
Fantasy Impact: Jackson is a guy who has never really gotten a fair shake in the league. Part of his misfortunes have been because of injuries, but largely because he has been an undrafted player on a struggling franchise, and has had to compete with highly drafted backs in Marshawn Lynch (who is now with the Seahawks) and rookie C.J. Spiller, the opportunities to show his worth as a featured back have been few and far between. I thought for years that Jackson was the more decisive, patient, effective runner than Lynch, but because more was invested in Lynch, it took until October 5 of this year to trade him to Seattle and open up more opportunities for Jackson and Spiller. While the Bills’ 0-8 start all but ensured that the organizations’ ten-year playoff drought will continue, they have become a dangerous team in that they have nothing to lose and have discovered a workable, balanced formula consisting of Ryan Fitzpatrick’s efficient passing and playmaking ability and Jackson’s ability to log 25-30 touches a game. Bad teams like this that fly under the radar are more often than not a fantasy goldmine.
