Bills’ Jackson viable fantasy RB option

Email Post Email Post

Update: With 299 total yards and 4 TD’s over his past two games, Fred Jackson has become a very viable fantasy RB option out of Buffalo. What’s more telling is that these past two games have been the only wins for the Bills this season, which suggests that head coach Chan Gailey will not want to stray from what works.

Fantasy Impact: Jackson is a guy who has never really gotten a fair shake in the league. Part of his misfortunes have been because of injuries, but largely because he has been an undrafted player on a struggling franchise, and has had to compete with highly drafted backs in Marshawn Lynch (who is now with the Seahawks) and rookie C.J. Spiller, the opportunities to show his worth as a featured back have been few and far between. I thought for years that Jackson was the more decisive, patient, effective runner than Lynch, but because more was invested in Lynch, it took until October 5 of this year to trade him to Seattle and open up more opportunities for Jackson and Spiller. While the Bills’ 0-8 start all but ensured that the organizations’ ten-year playoff drought will continue, they have become a dangerous team in that they have nothing to lose and have discovered a workable, balanced formula consisting of Ryan Fitzpatrick’s efficient passing and playmaking ability and Jackson’s ability to log 25-30 touches a game. Bad teams like this that fly under the radar are more often than not a fantasy goldmine.

CJ Benefitting From Moss

Email Post Email Post

Update: Even thought WR Randy Moss has only 1 reception in 2 games with the Tennessee Titans, he is making an impact, especially in the running game. In the 2 games with Moss, RB Chris Johnson has rushed 247 yards on just 38 carries, a 6.5 yard per carry average.

Fantasy Impact: Johnson has had a very good season thus far, but people have been disappointed because it isn't what it was last year. However, with the addition of Moss, Johnson so far looks like the 2009 Johnson that rushed for over 2,000 yards, which is great for his fantasy owners.

LB Tinoisamoa doesn’t practice

Email Post Email Post

Update: ESPNChicago.com is reporting that Chicago Bears LB Pisa Tinoisamoa missed practice Monday with a right knee injury. Tinoisamoa missed the team's Thursday night game against the Miami Dolphins due to the injury.

Fantasy Impact: The Bears did just fine defensively without him, posting a 16-0 shutout over the Dolphins in Miami. Bears general manager Jerry Angelo downplayed the injury by saying Tinoisamoa will be fine, so he should be good to go by next week.

QB Clausen to undergo further concussion testing

Email Post Email Post

Update: NFL.com is reporting that Carolina Panthers QB Jimmy Clausen is going to meet with doctors on Wednesday to undergo further concussion evaluation tests. The injury came in week ten against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and kept him from playing in week 11 against the Baltimore Ravens.

Fantasy Impact: The rookie quarterback hasn't had much playing time this year partly due to the injury. However, with the way the Panthers' season has been going thus far, it would probably be wise to keep him on the sideline for the rest of the year. He has no fantasy value so continue to ignore him in all fantasy leagues and look for QB help elsewhere.

RB Best "a long shot" to play Thursday

Email Post Email Post

Update: CBSsports.com is reporting that Detroit Lions RB Jahvid Best is unlikely to play on Thanksgiving day against the New England Patriots. Best has been suffering from a nagging toe injury that has kept him limited in games for the past several weeks.

Fantasy Impact: To be safe, sit Best this week. The toe injury has kept him from putting up decent enough fantasy numbers to be considered a starter and from the looks of things he won't be back in time for Thanksgiving festivities. Keep him on the bench and hope he can finish the season strong.

WR Marshall misses practice

Email Post Email Post

Update: CBSsports.com is reporting that Miami Dolphins WR Brandon Marshall missed practice Monday with a hamstring injury. Marshall suffered the injury in the teams Thursday night loss against the Chicago Bears. He will likely be listed as questionable for next week.

Fantasy Impact: The Dolphins are horrendous on offense since both QB Chad Pennington and QB Chadd Henne went down with injuries. Even if he does play, he will be covered by Oakland Raiders lockdown CB Nnamdi Asomugha and thus shouldn't be played in fantasy leagues. Sit him for next week.

RB Portis may be done for the year

Email Post Email Post

Update: CBSsports.com is reporting that Washington Redskins RB Clinton Portis, who re-injured his torn groin on Sunday, may miss the remainder of the season. Portis said he is going to have an MRI on Monday. He rushed five times for 32 yards and caught a pass for 14 yards before leaving the game.

Fantasy Impact: Portis just can't seem to shake this injury and it doesn't look like he is going to return anytime soon. Drop him as soon as possible seeing as he probably won't make it back before the regular season is over and pick up RB Keiland Williams as he will be seeing most of the carries since RB Ryan Torain is struggling with a hamstring injury.

Vikings fire Head Coach Brad Childress

Email Post Email Post

Update: ESPN.com is reporting that the Minnesota Vikings have fired Head Coach Brad Childress and promote defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier to interim head coach for the remainder of the 2010 season. Frazier and Vikings owner Zygi Wilf are scheduled to hold a press conference today at 4 p.m. ET.

Fantasy Impact: The Green Bay Packers have become coach killers getting both Wade Phillips and Brad Childress fired the day after playing them. However, neither case came as a surprise. Hopefully for the Vikings they can now turn things around and make a desperate attempt at a playoff run.

Portis Set For An MRI

Update: Washington Redskins RB Clinton Portis came back yesterday after missing several weeks with an injury. His return did not last long as he only got 5 carries and caught the ball once before leaving with another injury. Portis re-injured his groin and the Washington Post reports he will undergo an MRI today.

Fantasy Impact: Even when he's been healthy this season, Portis has not been the back he once was. It may be best to shut him down for the remainder of the season and limit the risk of injuring the groin again.

Campbell To Remain The Starter

Email Post Email Post

Update: The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Jason Campbell will remain the starter at quarterback for the Oakland Raiders. Campbell was benched yesterday in favor of Bruce Gradkowski, but head coach Tom Cable is sticking with Campbell.

Fantasy Impact: Although Campbell did not look good against a tough Steelers defense, he has looked solid the previous few weeks. It is best to stick with Campbell as the Raiders brought him in during the off-season to be the starter.

Damien Woody To Undergo MRI

Email Post Email Post

Update: On Sunday, New York Jets RT Damien Woody suffered a right MCL injury, and the New York Daily News reports that he will undergo an MRI today. The extent to the injury is unknown at this point.

Fantasy Impact: The Jets have one of the league's best offensive lines, and Woody is a big part of that. He opens up holes in the running game and makes sure that Mark Sanchez is up-right. If he does miss time, expect the Jets offense to be slightly less effective.

Blake Griffin Dunking His Way Into Rookie of the Year Conversation

For once, Staples Center isn’t just the Lakers home court. There is another team that, even though it has a losing record, is actually gaining its own momentum.

Yes, the Los Angeles Clippers are making a name for themselves, and they are doing it with pure youth. They have the offensive machine Eric Gordon, who helped Team USA win gold this summer, and then they have the kid I like to call “The Monster”.

“The Monster” came straight from Oklahoma, missed his first NBA season due to injury, and was somewhat forgotten this past summer due to John Wall, LeBron, and the many summer storylines for the NBA. Yes, if you haven’t figured it out, the kid’s name is Blake Griffin, and not only is he making a nice run for the Slam Dunk Contest, but he is neck-and-neck with Reebok poster-child, John Wall, for Rookie Of The Year.

Blake Griffin is making waves in LA, and has already begun making waves all over the NBA world.

Steve Johnson Stars As The Joker

Email Post Email Post

Update: The Buffalo Bills faced off against the Bengals and Batman and Robin (Owens and Ochocinco) yesterday. Apparently Bills WR Steve Johnson wanted to join the fun and proclaimed himself as the Joker when he scored a touchdown, lifted his jersey, and had the words "Why so serious?" written on his shirt. The best part about Johnson's antics was the fact that it was part of a monster game where he caught 8 balls for 137 yards and 3 touchdowns, overshadowing Batman and Robin.

Fantasy Impact: Johnson is not a house-hold name, but is having a season like one. He has caught 52 balls for 728 yards and 9 touchdowns. He may still be available in many fantasy leagues and it is certainly worth it to pick him up. He has shown great chemistry with Ryan Fitzpatrick and he should be a solid play.
