Photo Story: No Laughing Matter – The Inappropriate Giggling of Derek Anderson

derek-anderson-laughing

Last night, the Arizona Cardinals were throttled by the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football. Yes, the same San Francisco 49ers who were themselves throttled at home by the Tampa Bay Bucs one week prior. Arizona lost because it’s defense was lethargic, it could not run the ball, and its quarterback was both indecisive and inaccurate.

Making matters worse, said quarterback – the infamous Derek Anderson – was caught by MNF cameras late in the game smiling/laughing (depending on your interpretation). Anderson was asked about it during his post game press conference and had his Denny Green/Jim Mora/Herm Edwards moment that will go down in press conference infamy.

As the dust settled today, Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt announced that Anderson would remain his starting quarterback. He also attempted to hold a serious discussion with Anderson about his inappropriate and untimely giggling. What follows is a photo diary that captures the noteworthy moments of this critical conversation between player and coach.

BFL 2010 Week 12 Recap: Requiem for a Season (for mine anyway…)

Email Post Email Post
febreze

As you all know, I am a member of P&G’s Blogger Fantasy League*, and I am helping out Team Febreze with this week’s recap. It’s fitting that Febreze is this week, since it’s perfect for eliminating the lingering football and food odors left over from Turkey Day.

It’s also fitting because an industrial size bottle of Febreze is exactly what I need to mask the ever-worsening scent emanating from the carcass of my team.

Friends, as I mentioned in the Week 13 start em, sit em post, Week 12 was a week to forget. I lost 84.50-80.94 to Fresh 2 Death, one of the teams currently ahead of me in the Procter division. And the worst thing about is that I could have and should have won.

QB Collins could start next week

Email Post Email Post

Update: NFL.com is reporting that Tennesee Titans QB Kerry Collins could start next week against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Collins has missed the past two games with a strained calf muscle. The Titans have also lost starting QB Vince Young for the year with a thumb injury.

Fantasy Impact: The Titans are on a four game losing streak, partly due to the quarterback situation. Even RB Chris Johnson, arguably the best runnning back in the NFL, has suffered by being held to under ten yards rushing last week. Collins is needed for the Titans to get back on track, but even if he does play he isn't a reliable fantasy option at quarterback.

Frazier unsure if AP will play

Email Post Email Post

Update: CBSsports.com is reporting that Minnesota Vikings Interim Head Coach Leslie Frazier is unsure if RB Adrian Peterson will be able to play next week. Peterson suffered an ankle sprain last week. However, an ESPN report earlier in the week said that Peterson is expected to play.

Fantasy Impact: If he is good to go next week, Peterson will have a great matchup against the Buffalo Bills. However, if not, owners should grab RB Toby Gerhart from free agency to fill in for Peterson. Either way, grab Gerhart now and drop him later if Peterson is ready for next week.

QB Gradkowski’s season likely over

Email Post Email Post

Update: CBSsports.com is reporting that Oakland Raiders QB Bruce Gradkowski seperated his throwing shoulder in Sunday's loss against the Miami Dolphins. This is the second time this year that he seperated the shoulder and it is expected that he will miss the remainder of the season. QB Jason Campbell will start at quarterback in his absence.

Fantasy Impact: The Raiders have been playing better this year than in recent years, but neither Gradkowski or Campbell are good starting fantasy quarterbacks. Look for help elsewhere as fantasy leagues move towards the playoffs.

Tom Brady sits out practice

Email Post Email Post

Update: CBSsports.com is reporting that new England Patriots QB Tom Brady sat out practice Tuesday with a foot issue. Brady has been on in the injury report for the past few weeks, but hasn't missed any playing time.

Fantasy Impact: If Brady is having problems with his foot, he certainly didn't play like it last week against the Detroit Lions. Brady should be fine for week 13 against the New York Jets. Obviously, he is arguably the best quarterback in the NFL and should be in all starting fantasy lineups.

Big Ben in walking boot, likely to start

Update: ESPN.com is reporting that Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger is in a walking boot after suffering a sprained foot last week. However, he is still expected to play next week against the Baltimore Ravens.

Fantasy Impact: Roethlisberger did not leave the game even after suffering the injury, which is a good sign that it isn't too serious. But to be safe monitor his status throughout the week and make sure he is good to go in week 13.

Frank Gore out for season

Email Post Email Post

Update: ESPN.com is reporting that San Francisco 49ers RB Frank Gore will miss the remainder of the 2010 season with a broken hip. Gore suffered the injury Monday night against the Arizona Cardinals. RB Brian Westbrook will start in place of Gore.

Fantasy Impact: Gore owners will need to drop him as soon as possible and pick up Westbrook, who rushed for 136 yards and a touchdown while filling in for Gore. Westbrook is aging, but he was a huge part of the Eagles offense while in Philadelphia and still can be productive when given the opportunity.

The NBA Morning After: Making Sense of the Mavericks Edition

Email Post Email Post

The Morning After is a look at the night that was in the NBA along with other NBA-related fodder

– The Dallas Mavericks extended their winning streak to six with a 101-91 defeat of the Houston Rockets. Caron Butler went crazy in the third, scoring 13 points in the frame, and Dirk Nowitzki had a ho-hum, random Monday night 20 point 10 rebound performance.

The Week 13 start em, sit em post and the Week 13 waiver wire sleepers are already up. Below are my top 10 rankings at quarterback, running back, wide receiver, and tight end. Click for my complete Week 13 rankings.

There shouldn’t be many surprises at the top, especially at QB and WR where Michael Vick’s matchup (Houston) and Dwayne Bowe’s amazing production make them easy #1 choices. The #1 player at tight end, however, might surprise you just a bit.

Steve Johnson, You Dropped That Pass, Not God

Email Post Email Post

It’s overtime, 16-16 in Buffalo, Ryan Fitzpatrick fakes a hand-off to his running back and looks downfield. He sees fantasy stud Steve Johnson split two Steelers defenders. He’s wide open.

Fitzpatrick fires the ball downfield. Johnson is alone in the end zone, the ball lands perfectly in his chest, he bobbles it…and the ball falls helplessly to the ground. A few minutes later, the game Steelers drive down the field and kick the game winning field goal.

If you have not seen that play in it’s entirety here it is.

The more shocking news was what Steve Johnson said on his Twitter account after the game.

Fantasy Football Week 13 Start / Sit Picks

Email Post Email Post

Well friends, I am disappointed to say that I dropped another game in the P&G-sponsored Blogger Fantasy Football League*. The loss drops me to 6-6 on the season and two games out of the final playoff spot. I now need to win out and I need help. That is never a good position to be in.

So what went wrong in Week 12? It would be easy to look at the tight end position, where I chose Vernon Davis over Kevin Boss. Davis proceeded to score three points, and I lost by four. Since Kevin Boss had 70+ yards and a TD, the winning production was sitting on the bench at that one spot.

But, just like the Buffalo Bills’ loss in Week 12 cannot be totally blamed on Stevie Johnson dropping that wide open TD pass, there were other positions that could have picked up the slack. Adrian Peterson was running wild before getting hurt and having to leave the game. Vincent Jackson, who I foolishly started in his first game back*, got hurt after two plays. Neither Mike Wallace nor Mike Thomas came anywhere close to the production they’d been getting recently.

* – One of my most trusted fantasy football principles has always been that I don’t start guys who are playing in their first game back after a long layoff. I prefer to wait for them to prove on the field that they are back, even it takes two or three weeks. I like seeing before I believe. Yet, here we are in Week 12, crunch time for all of us, and I recommend Sidney Rice as my WR start ‘em and then go with Vincent Jackson in the most critical week of my season in the Blogger Fantasy League. I failed myself and I failed you. I’m sorry. This is a great example of why having principles and sticking to them is so important. In Week 12, I was a doofus, and I cost us all.

Add it all up, and most of what could go wrong did go wrong, save for Eli, BenJarvus, and Dan Carpenter coming through huge. The real surprise is that I only lost by three points with this confluence of crap that occurred.

And with that, Week 12 is over. Thanks for letting me vent. It is time to turn our attention towards Week 13, and as I did last week, I will enlist your help later this week in setting my Week 13 roster.
