S-Jax has finger surgery

Email Post Email Post

Update: STLtoday.com is reporting that St. Louis Rams RB Steven Jackson underwent surgery on Monday on the ring finger of his left hand. Two pins were inserted into his finger to repair a crack. "I shouldn't miss a beat," said Jackson via Twitter. "I'm not married so I'm covered there too."

Fantasy Impact: Jackson has been a warrior all season long, battling back, groin, and now finger injuries but hasn't missed a game so far this year. If he says he's playing, he most likely will be. He is a must-start in all fantasy leagues.

Where’s the Respect for Joakim Soria?

joakim-soria

It’s a rare occurrence for a team’s most valuable player to be its closer, but you could make the argument that Kansas City’s closer Joakim Soria is their most valuable player.

Since his debut in 2007, there haven’t been many that have been better than Soria. In just four seasons, he has 132 saves with a 2.01 ERA and two All-Star appearances in 2008 and 2010. During both those years, he finished second in the American League in saves.

The man has the stats to be considered one the elite closers in the game, which makes me wonder, “where’s the respect?”

Bush Cleared To Play

Email Post Email Post

Update: After a disappointing loss on Sunday to the Browns, the New Orleans Saints got some good news today when RB Reggie Bush was cleared to practice and play this week, the Times-Picayune reports. Bush suffered a broken leg during the team's Week 2 game against the 49ers.

Fantasy Impact: During Bush's absence, the Saints were just 2-3. While Bush is not an elite rusher of the football, he is an elite playmaker. Bush is a difference maker and forces defenses to focus in on him, opening up space for other players. Bush is also an electric punt returner, and the Saints will surely welcome back his services.

Cushing Shifting To MLB

Email Post Email Post

Update: The Houston Texans will move OLB Brian Cushing to MLB for the rest of the season after they lost their starting middle lineback DeMeco Ryans for the season. Cushing has played in 2 games this season after being suspended for the first 4.

Fantasy Impact: Moving Cushing to the middle is likely the best option for the Texans. This move will allow Xavier Adibi to return to the starting lineup after starting during Cushing's suspension. Cushing is a fast and aggressive lineback, so his talent should translate well in the middle.

On October 23rd, 2010, a man attended the St. Louis Blues-Pittsburgh Penguins hockey game wearing a shirt that not even his own mother could love.

Luckily, this man and his magnificent shirt were captured by Getty Images and then broadcast to the world via ESPN.com.

In so doing, this man, Getty, and ESPN have joined forces to sum up what all non-hockey fans think of the NHL.

Alex Smith waits on diagnosis of shoulder injury

Email Post Email Post

Update: NFL.com is reporting that San Francisco 49ers QB Alex Smith stayed in a hospital in London on Monday as he waits for the official diagnosis of his left shoulder injury that was in a sling by the end of the team's game against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. Smith hurt the shoulder while being sacked in the third quarter and did not return. It is unknown if he will miss the team's next game against the Denver Broncos.

Fantasy Impact: Smith has been inconsistent throughout his entire career and this injury won't help his chances of rejuvinating his career. QB David Carr will get the start if Smith can't go and if he plays well enough just might take Smith's spot for good.

Vick to start after bye week

Email Post Email Post

Update: ESPN.com is reporting that Philadelphia Eagles Head Coach Andy Reid has named QB Mike Vick as the team's starter after the bye week. Vick has missed the past few weeks with a rib injury suffered against the Washington Redksins.

Fantasy Impact: QB Kevin Kolb did a decent job in Vick's absence, so if Vick stops putting up the numbers that he has been all season then he might lose the job to Kolb. It will be interesting to see how this turns out but for now Vick should be considered a must-start in all leagues after the bye week.

Packers Lose 2 More Players For The Season

Email Post Email Post

Update: Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy announced today that LB Brady Poppinga and DE Mike Neal will both undergo season-ending surgeries. Poppinga has a knee injury and Neal has a shoulder injury.

Fantasy Impact: While neither play start for the Packers defense, they both provide depth which is crucial. The Packers were already thin at the defensive line and linebacker spots, so losing 2 more players will hurt a lot.

Eben Britton Likely Done For The Season

Email Post Email Post

Update: Tania Ganguli of the Florida Times-Union reports that Jacksonville Jaguars RT Eben Britton is likely done for the season with a shoulder injury. Britton will undergo an MRI today and the team believes it may be a torn labrum.

Fantasy Impact: While Britton may not be an elite right tackle, he is an important player on the Jaguars offensive line. The Jaguars will likely have to bring in another O-Lineman to provide depth if Britton will indeed miss the rest of the season.

Bucs Release Stevens

Update: The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have released TE Jerramy Stevens, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. Stevens was arrested this weekend for marijuana possesion.

Fantasy Impact: Losing Stevens is not a big loss, considering he has only caught 3 passes for 43 yards this season. It is in the best interest of the team to get rid of a unproductive distraction, especially on a good young team.
