Which Former Notre Dame “Legend” Looks Better in Purple?

Email Post Email Post

Apparently the Carolina Panthers made their rookies dress up in stupid outfits for Halloween.

How do I know this? Because the blog Cat Scratch Fever has a picture of former Notre Dame QB Jimmy Clausen dressed up as the purple Teletubby. And on Clausen’s Twitter account, it says, “no just I dressed up along with all the other rookies lol.

LOL indeed Clausen. LOL indeed.

Immediately, I thought of another Notre Dame “legend” who looks good in purple. The question is, who looks better?

Garrard cleared to play

Email Post Email Post

Update: BigCatCountry.com is reporting that Jacksonville Jaguars QB David Garrard has been cleared to play after suffering a concussion in the team's Monday night game against the Tenessee Titans on October 18. No official word on whether he will start or not has been released.

Fantasy Impact: The Jaguars need Garrard back as soon as possible seeing as they have no reliable backup QB. The Jags will play the Cowboys on Sunday, who gave up 41 points to the New York Giants as QB Eli Manning through for four touchdowns. Still, Garrard should be considered a number two QB and shouldn't be played this week unless there are no other options available.

Tomlin: Smith out for extended period of time

Email Post Email Post

Update: ESPN.com is reporting that Pittsburgh Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin said that DE Aaron Smith will miss an extended period of time with a torn tricep. He also didn't rule out the possibility of Smith missing the remainder of the season. DE Ziggy Hood will replace Smith while he is out with the injury.

Fantasy Impact: Smith's injury is similar to that of Indianapolis Colts S Bob Sanders, who was expected to miss 10 weeks with a triceps tear. The Steelers to this point look playoff-bound so that is probably the reason why Tomlin didn't want to rule him out for the rest of the year. If the Steelers make the playoffs Smith will probably return as soon as possible, but if for some reason the Steelers get knocked out of contention early, Smith will surely land on IR.

Jackson passes concussion tests

Email Post Email Post

Update: CBSsports.com is reporting that Philadelphia Eagles WR DeSean Jackson passed his concussion tests. Jackson suffered the concussion in week six after getting leveled by Atlanta Falcons CB Dunta Robinson who also gave himself a concussion on the play. Head Coach Andy Reid said that he has a "pretty good chance of playing" against the Colts in week nine.

Fantasy Update: The bye week comes at a good time for Jackson, who will have an extra week to rest before returning to the field. Also, QB Mike Vick will return after the bye week so this gives fantasy owners an added reason to be anxious for the Eagles to return to action in two weeks.

Romo has broken collarbone

Email Post Email Post

Update: Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo broke his collarbone in the first half of the team's game Monday night against the New York Giants. ESPNDallas.com is reporting that the Cowboys are 90 percent certain that he won't need surgery. Even without surgery, it is expected that he will mis at least six weeks.

Fantasy Impact: This is a catastrophe for the Cowboys who are already 1-6 with their star QB. After Romo went down, the team imploded on offense and defense and allowed the Giants to run away with the victory. QB Jon Kitna will replace Romo in his absence.

10 Bold Statements for the 2010-11 NBA Season – Part Two

#4.  Mr. Jordan has the right to hate…but he’s wrong.

I’m sure by now, you are well-educated on “The Decision.” You probably have your own opinion regarding how you feel about it.

From my point of view, nearly everyone falls into one of five categories:

  1. You hate LeBron. Forever. (Mostly Cleveland fans).
  2. You love LeBron. Forever. (LeBron James).
  3. You understand why he left, and can’t argue with him joining forces with one of his best friends, but you disagree with HOW he left. (Myself).
  4. You understand why he left, and can’t argue with him joining forces with one of his best friends, and that’s all that matters. (Growing, but still in the minority).
  5. You understand why he left, but even if he wins 10 rings, he won’t be as good as Jordan (Michael Jordan and his followers…which number in the millions at this point.)

I’m sure you heard what Michael Jordan said a few weeks ago. He, like Barkley, Webber, and all the stars of yester-year, believes that his era was much greater than the current one. He made some typically Jordan-like comments about how he would score 100 points in today’s league, and how he would have never EVER joined forces with Magic or Bird.

Of course, all the minions loved this nugget of confidence from their favorite “Air Jordan,” and it prompted several players and fans to back him up.

DO NOT be swayed by the charisma of everyone’s favorite basketball player of all time. The truth is, he’s just blatantly wrong.

The 106th edition of baseball’s World Series begins tomorrow night in San Francisco with the Giants and Rangers renewing their historic rivalry.

Oh wait, there is no established rivalry.

But with tickets selling at record pace with record prices, and die-hard fans quitting high-paying jobs to follow their teams, we do need some “themes,” no?

Fantasy Football Week 8 Start / Sit Projections and Lineup Advice

Email Post Email Post

We are now 7 weeks into the 2010 Fantasy Football season and my combined record in six leagues is 32-10. In only one league am I not at least two games over .500. I don’t keep records of these sorts of things, but I cannot ever remember jumping out to such a strong start in so many leagues.

Making this especially exciting is that in one of my leagues, the P&G-sponsored Blogger Fantasy Football League*, the stakes are a trip to the Super Bowl for the winner. Those are the highest stakes I’ve ever played for. Add in the potential for bragging rights among my blogging buddies, and you can undoubtedly understand why I spend so much time attempting to optimize my lineup each week.

Speaking of the Super Bowl, do yourself a favor and check out the Text It To The House promotion. It’s a fun, easy weekly game you should be taking part in where you pick the five players who will have longest plays from scrimmage this week (Pierre Garcon! Pierre Garcon!).

Anyway, so far in BFL2010, despite making a few boneheaded decisions (dropping Thomas Jones) and losing one of my top WRs before the season even started (Sidney Rice), I’m sitting in a three-way tie for the best record in the league. Please, if you would, do me a favor and knock on some wood.

All of this early season success, of course, has me terrified.

Hakeem Nicks will start tonight

Email Post Email Post

Update: CBSsports.com is reporting that New York Giants WR Hakeem Nicks will start tonight against the Dallas Cowboys. Nicks has been dealing with a hamstring issue that he believes was brought on by fatigue. He missed practice on Friday but did practice on Saturday and didn't suffer any setbacks.

Fantasy Impact: Nicks has been solid all year long, but this hamstring injury may put a damper on his production against the Cowboys. The Cowboys have yet to give up a 100-yard game to a receiver, but have given up five touchdowns through the air. Nicks should be considered a number two WR in terms of fantasy.

Favre has 2 ankle fractures

Email Post Email Post

Update: Examiner.com is reporting that Minnesota Vikings QB Brett Favre has two fractures in his ankle, the same ankle that was giving him troubles this whole season. The injury came on Sunday night against the Green Bay Packers, but he finished the game and limped off the field and into the locker room. Favre is currently wearing a boot and will undergo an MRI but has not been ruled out for next week's game against the New England Patriots.

Fantasy Impact: Regardless of whether or not Favre will play, he should be sat in all fantasy leagues. With the way New England is playing topped with the fact that Favre looked horrible against the Packers makes him a liability in fantasy. Look for QB help elsewhere until he heals up.

LeBron James’ new Nike commercial “Rise” – Yay or Nay?

Email Post Email Post

You may have heard by now that LeBron James has a new Nike commercial. Predictably, it tackles the controversy and negative opinions about him head on.

I say predictably because this is what Nike does when its stars run afoul of public opinion. They did it with Kobe after his rape trial and they did it with Tiger Woods in the infamous commercial in which he just stares at the camera while his dad’s voice talks.

Watch LeBron’s new commercial and then vote for whether you like or dislike it and whether or not you think it will have an effect on his image.

Gonzalez says he could play next week

Email Post Email Post

Update: ColtsGab.com is reporting that Indianapolis Colts WR Anthony Gonzalez could play as early as next week despite an ankle injury. Gonzalez denied reports from ESPN's Adam Schefter that he re-injured in the ankle and said he had "no idea where it (the report) came from."

Fantasy Impact: The Colts will need Gonzo as soon as possible now that TE Dallas Clark has been put on IR. Gonzo has been battling injuries throughout his entire career, so hold off on picking him up from free agency since he will be third on the depth chart behind WR Reggie Wayne and WR Pierre Garcon.
