Reggie Bush won’t play in week 8

Email Post Email Post

Update: ESPN.com is reporting that New Orleans Saints RB Reggie Bush will not play next week against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Bush broke his leg in week two and hasn't played since, but the Saints were hoping to have him back on the field in week eight. Doctors gave Bush permission to practice fully, but Bush has yet to do so.

Fantasy Impact: The Saints need Bush back as soon as possible especially with the absence of RB Pierre Thomas who has missed the past few weeks with an ankle injury. With Bush back on the field, it would give QB Drew Brees better opportunity to throw the ball since defenses will have to consider Bush's presence. However, he will have to wait at least one more week to get the help he needs through a running game.

By now you’ve surely seen the greatest sports Halloween costume (ever!) of 2010. Little Ron Washington is the sensation currently sweeping virally across the Internet nation.

But did you know that Little Ron Washington – he’s 7 years old – plays baseball like Big Ron Washington? That’s right. Little Ron drops the antlers on ‘em, and drops the claw on ‘em just like Big Ron would tell him would want him to.

And I’ve got the pictures and email from his proud papa to prove it!

Giants place Kiwanuka on IR

Email Post Email Post

Update: The Newark Star-Ledger is reporting that the Giants will place defensive end Mathia Kiwanuka on injured reserve Thursday. Kiwanuka has a herniated disk in his neck, and he is hopeful the condition will heal without surgery.

Fantasy Impact: The Giants’ pass rush has been very productive over the past month in Kiwanuka’s absence but this is a big loss, nonetheless. Kiwanuka had four sacks in the three games he did play this season, and more importantly, provided pass-rushing depth behind starting ends Justin Tuck and Osi Umenyiora. If Tuck or Umenyiora get injured or have to come off the field for whatever reason, offenses will be able to focus on shutting down the other and picking apart a New York secondary that reveals itself to be average when the pass-rush doesn’t get there.

Clever, people of San Francisco…but shame on you

Earlier today I shared with you what will go down as the greatest sports-related Halloween costume of 2010.

Now, let me share with you a fan sign that, while clever, isn’t exactly in good taste or the spirit of sportsmanship or, for that matter, the spirit of humanity.

If the baseball gods are counting up karma points, the Giants have to be docked at least a few for their fans deciding this would be a good idea.

The NBA Morning After: Bunk Moreland Edition

new-orleans

Welcome to the Morning After, a look at the night that was in the NBA and other NBA-related fodder

– The New Orleans Hornets brought out the big guns for their home opener in the form of The Bunk. Wendell Pierce of “The Wire” and “Treme” fame was on hand for pregame introductions and if I were on the Bucks, I’d have spent the night reciting scenes like this (kinda NSFW) or this all night.

I just found this via a tweet by the now-famous Gordon Keith.

And while I certainly haven’t seen every sports Halloween costume out there, or even the majority of them…hell, I haven’t seen any to be perfectly honest with you…I can tell you with 100% certainty that this is the best one of them all.

And if you argue with me, I’ll drop a claw on you.

Big 10 Breakdown: IU-Northwestern Preview and Prediction

ben-chappell

Historically the IU/NU match up has been a tremendous football affair with the home team winning either via a last second score or the visitor turning the ball over on the final drive.

The previous six “battles” have been won by a total of 23 points.  For you math wizards that is about a field goal difference per game.

As an Indiana fan my analysis is admittedly biased from my Crimson colored glasses:)  Nonetheless, my expectations are as follows:

Best expected to play in week 8

Email Post Email Post

Update: CBSsports.com is reporting that Detroit Lions RB Jahvid Best took part is position drills at practice and is expected to be ready to play in week eight against the Washington Redskins. Best had been suffering from a toe injury that had been bothering him throughout the bye week.

Fantasy Impact: The bye week came just at the right time for Best who had time to heal without missing any action. He should be considered a number two RB in terms of fantasy and should be in the starting lineup come Sunday.

Bettor’s Guide: NFL Week 8 Picks, Point Spreads, Over-Under Odds

Email Post Email Post

Well, it finally happened.

I had a week under .500. Yes, I am disappointed to report that I went 6-7 last week, done in by those dastardly Browns not allowing the Saints to blow them out by more than 13 points. In hindsight, that was probably the worst of my bets – too many points and New Orleans has been inconsistent – but I can’t cry about it too much.

Last week was just a very strange week and I clearly did not have quite the same read on the games as I did in Week 6 when I went 8-3-2. But no worries, it’s a new week and another opportunity build upon my 56-39-5 overall record on the season. Let’s pick some games.

Gentlemen, fall more in love with donut-scarfing, Wrangler-wearin’ Michelle Beadle

We here at Midwest Sports Fans have long been admirers of Michelle Beadle.

Not only is she very attractive in a pleasantly down-to-earth sort of way, but she also knows her sports…which is a lot more than can be said of other blonde women who talk about sports on TV (names withheld so as not to insult anyone).

She also has a great sense of humor, as evidenced by the two videos you’re about to see.

Favre won’t practice, hopeful to play

Email Post Email Post

Update: NFL.com is reporting that Minnesota Vikings QB Brett Favre will not practice on Wednesday but he still hopes to be able to play on Sunday against the New England Patriots. Favre fractured his ankle in two places last week against the Green Bay Packers but managed to finish the game and limped off the field afterwords. Favre is currently in a walking boot.

Fantasy Impact: Favre's legendary streak of most consecutive starts is in serious jeopardy. Hopefully he can keep it alive, but if not it will come as no surprise. Even if he does play, he has been horrendous so far this year and shouldn't be played as a starting fantasy quarterback.

QB Hall passes tests, cleared to practice

Email Post Email Post

Update: NFL.com is reporting that Arizona Cardinals QB Max Hall cleared neurological tests and has been cleared to practice after suffering a concussion last week against the Seattle Seahawks. Cardinals Head Coach Ken Whisenhunt said that is he passed the tests and practices that he will be the team's starter next Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Fantasy Impact: Hall may be able to play on Sunday, but he is still not a suitable option at QB in terms of fantasy. However, he does have a solid matchup so if a normal starter has a bye he might be worth picking up to fill the slot just for this week.

No timetable for WR Collie to return

Email Post Email Post

Update: ESPN.com is reporting that Indianapolis Colts WR Austin Collie has no timetable for return after going through surgery on his right hand. Collie hasn't been injured bad enough to prevent him from playing football since he was 14 years old, so the Colts don't know how quickly his hand will heal.

Fantasy Impact: Collie has had a great year so far with the Colts, so they will need him back as soon as possible since TE Dallas Clark is going to miss the remainder of the season. Monitor his status closely throughout the week and start looking for a suitable replacement if he can't play.

CB Cox loses memory, hopes to play next week

Email Post Email Post

Update: ESPN.com is reporting that Denver Broncos CB Perrish Cox lost all memory of last week's blowout against the Oakland Raiders after a play in which he was covering Raiders WR Louis Murphy on the sideline and both fell to the ground. Murphy left the game with a chest injury and Cox needed to be helped off the field. Although he doesn't even remember playing, he hopes the injury won't prevent him from playing next week.

Fantasy Impact: Cox is currently wearing sunglasses and trying to avoid bright light in order to prevent headaches caused by the injury. It sounds serious, so don't expect him to play unless he passes all the cognitive tests he will surely undergo. The Broncos will most likely ease Cox back onto the practice field, so he may not play next week depending on the severity of the injury.
