Ryan to Jets: stop embarassing the organization

Email Post Email Post

Update: ESPN.com is reporting that New York Jets Head Coach Rex Ryan addressed the team Wednesday and told the players to stop embarassing the organization. Apparently the latest incident with the DWI arrest of WR Braylon Edwards is what set him over the edge.

Fantasy Impact: Ryan looks like he's had enough with players getting into trouble off the field. First the profanity in "Hard Knocks" was under scrutiny and players whistling at a female reporter in the locker room. WR Santonio Holmes is currently serving a four-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy.

Vikes lose out on WR Jackson

Email Post Email Post

Update: Twincities.com is reporting that the Minnesota Vikings will not be acquiring San Diego Chargers WR Vincent Jackson via trade. The Vikings offered the Chargers a second-round pick in 2011 plus a compensatory pick and the Chargers refused. The trade deadline passed on Wednesday afternoon.

Fantasy Impact: Now Jackson will have to serve six games suspension instead of four if he would've been traded. Now he's stuck in San Diego where he has already spoken out saying he wants to be traded. Jackson has missed almost all of training camp and hasn't played yet this season. However, QB Phillip Rivers has been outstanding this year from a fantasy standpoint so Jackson is a must-start when he does return from suspension.

Ravens release S Hamlin

Update: BaltimoreRavens.com is reporting that the Baltimore Ravens have released S Ken Hamlin. He was released to make room on the 53-man roster for CB Corey Williams who was serving a two-game suspension.

Fantasy Impact: Hamlin is an eight-year veteran who has played for the Cowboys and the Seahawks besides the Ravens. Look for a team with a struggling secondary to snatch him up quickly.

Revis Out For Sunday’s Game

Email Post Email Post

Update: New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan announced today that CB Darrelle Revis will not fly to Miami for the game against the Dolphins. Revis left this past weekend's game against the Patriots early with a hamstring injury. Antonio Cromartie will take Revis' place as the number 1 corner.

Fantasy Impact: The happiest person on the field on Sunday will be Dolphins WR Brandon Marshall. If Revis was playing he would be matched up with Marshall all game, which would not be great news for the wideout. Owners of Marshall can now breathe easy and play him in fantasy with confidence.

Tanard Jackson Suspended

Email Post Email Post

Update: The NFL has suspended Tampa Bay Buccaneers S Tanard Jackson for at least 1 year after violating the league's substance abuse policy, Roy Cummings of the Tampa Tribune reports. This is Jackson's second offense after he was suspended for 4 games in 2009. He will be eligible for reinstatement after Week 2 in 2011.

Fantasy Impact: The Bucs have a young and much improved defense, but losing Jackson is a big loss. He is a big hitting safety known for his aggressiveness. The team will have a hard time replacing him from within, but will have to manage without Jackson for some time.

Batch To Start For Steelers

Email Post Email Post

Update: Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that QB Charlie Batch will start for the Steelers this Sunday. With Dennis Dixon injured, many thought that Byron Leftwich would get the start, so this is a somewhat surprising move.

Fantasy Impact: Batch is going against an imporved Buccaneers defense, so he will not be a good play in fantasy. Look for the Steelers to hand the ball off to Rashard Mendenhall at least 20 points and rely on their own defense to put them into position to win the ball game.

Delhomme Out Of Practice

Email Post Email Post

Update: Cleveland Browns QB Jake Delhomme will not practice today again after suffering an ankle injury during Week 1, the AP reports. The Browns aren't sure if Delhomme will be ready for Week 3.

Fantasy Impact: If Delhomme can't go this weekend, Seneca Wallace will get his 2nd straight start. Last week Wallace wasn't great completing just 16 of 31 passes for 229 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 interception. Wallace is a threat to run the ball but had only 1 carry for 4 yards. Wallace is not a good play in fantasy, especially this week when the Browns will face the Baltimore Ravens and their superb defense.

Gradkowski Named Starter In Oakland

Email Post Email Post

Update: According to Jason La Canfora of NFL Network, the Oakland Raiders have named QB Bruce Gradkowski the starter for this week. Gradkowski replaced Jason Campbell this past weekend in a win over the Rams after Campbell struggled. It is unknown at this point if Gradkowski is just the starter for Week 3 or for the remainder of the regular season.

Fantasy Impact: Gradkowski played well enough to win on Sunday, but this is still a surprising move. Campbell was brought in during the off-season with fairly high expectations, but has not lived up to those expectations so far. It is still fairly early in the season to make a change at quarterback, especially since neither player has separated himself from the other.

Browns Call About Kolb

Email Post Email Post

Update: The Cleveland Browns called the Eagles asking about the availability of QB Kevin Kolb, Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com reports. The Eagles have said that Kolb is not available, but today head coach Andy Reid said that he can't predict if Kolb will be on the roster after the trade deadline.

Fantasy Impact: Kolb has lost his starting job to Michael Vick, for now at least. If the Eagles are prepared to go with Vick for the rest of the season and beyond, moving Kolb would not be a bad idea. Kolb is still a relatively young quarterback with upside, so the Eagles would look for at least a fairly high round draft pick.

Braylon Edwards Practices, Won’t Start

Email Post Email Post

Update: Rich Cimini of ESPNNewYork.com reports that New York Jets WR was at practice today, just a day after being arrested for a DWI. The team will not suspend Edwards and he will play this upcoming Sunday, but he will not start.

Fantasy Impact: Not starting Edwards is one way to punish the player. But it is unknown how much he will play. Edwards may just start the game on the bench but might play a regular amount of snaps, which would not hurt his fantasy stock. However, the Jets may just bring him in during certain situations. Edwards owners should follow this story throughout the week to determine whether it is worth starting him or not.
